    I love your use of these old books. My mother was a librarian and she would rescue the ones that would be destroyed. She would celebrate any creative endeavor. She wanted us to respect new ones of course, but the adoring of old paper awww was the bird song here. She hoped we caught a few lines of sentences here and there. When I went to college at the age of 48, my prof said I was a walking Encyclopedia. Lol. On another note: say a video of a Russian girl who refurbished a cabin in the woods. She "wallpapere"d the bedroom walls with old bookpages. Then from another old rescued book she found of floral paintings, she cut 30 of them and placed them five across in five levels on one eall. With an old lace curtain and cover let the room was gorgeous! Just as your journal is. So much for the nay sayers!!!

    What I really connected with on this tutorial were your comments about being overwhelmed at times with so many creative thoughts that I become stuck in inaction. Through your gentle instruction from a simple tag to a pocket and a reminder that perfection is not the purpose here, something beautiful blossoms. It is a practice of letting go for some of us. In this our tempeents are very much alike. Time to jump in and make a simple tag. ❤

    So true about being so overwhelmed with possible ideas, I feel the same! Sometimes I sit down and can't decide what to do first so I end up doing nothing! Also, I love how you say "we're not striving for perfection". YES! I love this. Once again, I am so inspired by your video 😊

    I’m a book lover and an avid reader. Not every book needs to stay in its original form for eternity. You are reusing and upcycling, that’s a good thing. I love the page marker piece you made with red heart, red ribbon, lined and book page.

    YES! Tutorial showing the flowers! I figured out some things by looking closely as you showed them, but I think I like the way you talk as you demonstrate what you are doing, as much as the process. I do not do what you do, but I have been watching for awhile, and, I am being reminded of activities and supplies that I have done in the past. When you showed your box of paper flowers, and I could have enjoyed watching to show them one at a time. I took a small break and wondered: Why in the world did I want her to show her flowers more slowly.
    I think that I realized while pondering that you see possibilities in so many things (as do I) ... we cannot be the only people on the planet who feel better when we are looking at many possibilities that have become useful and a bit of celebration that one more thing continues to be useful and brings joy to others who look and see.

    Thank you for sharing your journal entry session. I never thought I would want to journal daily, because I have never kept a diary or planner ever, but junk journals, mini sized, no larger than 3.5 x 4.5 inches, is the perfect format for me to collect and record thoughts, observations, images and any ephemera that cross my desk. Yesterday, was the label from my favorite mints, the other day was a McDonald ice cream cone wrapper since that's my 'go to' treat, a spent movie gift card. As you mentioned, this does help to break creative mental blocks. The challenge of packing in a lot in such a tiny space is what starts the creative process for me. I love the string bow attached to the staple on your tag, so I borrowed that idea in my journal a few minutes ago!! It looks so homespun. I also like the torn raggedy page edges in a journal, and not all stacked evenly too. Maybe my imagination, but each page seems to stand out more, especially after it's been decorated. I pause rather than flip through quickly when each page is not the same. I would love to see your method of flower making from magazine pages. I've done some myself, and wonder how many other ways to make them. Yes, I too worry about my work holding up for generations. Sounds self important, but that's another reason I craft and journal. To pass along a piece of myself to a future I will never see (RIP Senator Elijah Cummings). We all have something special that needs to be shared.

    • @TreasureBooks
      @TreasureBooks  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much. And I totally agree, it does sound self important, BUT I would love a piece of me to stay around for many generations. Not because I feel that I am important or interesting, but because I would LOVE AND CHERISH SO MUCH if I had something of my grandmothers/ greatgrandmothers!! Completely different lifetimes - I would love to be able to peek into their daily lives and thoughts!!!

    • @LSI.
      @LSI. 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Senator Cummings quote is, "Our children are the living messages we send to a future we will never see". (Per Google) I love his quote so much, and thought, my craft work is like my children. (To clarify reference to Senator Cummings in my reply.) I cherish everything my ancestors have made, and just wish they had dated and signed their names. My husband's grandmother made a potholder but because she did not date/sign it, all I have is my memory to tell my children that great grandma made this. But who would think to date and sign everything they make, I do lol. I date and sign my utility blankets because they are my message to a future I will never see.

    Great video - I love your commentary. I used to be horrified when crafters tore up books, until I started volunteering at my local library. There are so many books donated each year that are just not suitable (outdated, damaged, etc.) for lending. Thousands of pounds of books are thrown out every year. It's better to have them used for another purpose than to become landfill. Cheers!

    Thank you for showing me how you do your journaling. I’m going to start my first junk journal, but have been intimidated by the process and feeling like I have to have all these materials and special tools. And, thank you also for explaining about the “rescued” books. I see so many crafters using book pages, and, as a writer and avid reader, I felt uneasy about destroying books to make art. I know it’s not a new thing, but I’ve always been troubled by it. But, when you put it like that-that the books would be destroyed anyway, it seems like a kindness to give them a new life. However, I doubt all the crafters using books and book pages see the way you do. I have seen videos where they take perfectly good vintage rare book and cut it up. That I cannot abide. Love your channel and your creativity. Blessings!

    • @TreasureBooks
      @TreasureBooks  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much!!! I totally get that you would feel that way about books, and it makes perfect sense. I have so many books that were rescued and they were out in the rain, so I lot of them had water damage and I had to put them into recycling, but I saved what I could. I have enough to last me many years of crafting :)
