We used to use these all the time for pockets in our junk and travel journals about ten years ago. I can't remember where I first saw it, perhaps in the remains of the day journals. If not that, someone taught it way back then. We would use them to put ephemera in when we went on travels or the movies, or to keep receipts or special letters, etc. When I ran out of picture pockets, I would use page protectors and sew across the bottom and put bits of material or washi tape on the sides and sew them and use them just like a page in a junk journal, but only about 3 1/2 " to four inches tall and then sew two together with a piece of paper or a piece of cloth and then sew it into your signature just like any other page you would sew into your signature for your junk journal. But you have given me a couple of new ideas of using them as trianglar pockets. Thanks for sharing,

I knew I could count on you to have a video on making junk journals using photo pockets. I just found a pretty little photo album at my thrift store and I was wondering how to use it as a junk journal. So, I searched TH-cam and Voila! I found your video. I am already a subscriber, but I was so happy to see that you had a video on this subject. I love your videos. Thank you!💞

  • @alicesullivan1790

You are so clever. Isn't it amazing how, when we let our inner, non-judgmental child mind out to play, it is freed to not even consider a box; and once it plays with one idea, more ideas just keep coming. I also loved how you put writing notes on the video announcing that something you had done, didn't work, you also noted how you figured out how to fix that issue, i.e. the glue didn't work, so you tried something else, and that worked! Letting your imagination lead you to a create a fun crafting mixed ,media piece of art, requires one set of skills; but to also be able to break it down into simple steps and teach someone how to do what you are doing, ... as you are doing it, is a mind-boggling, much more complex set of master craftswoman skills. THOSE WHO CAN CREATE wonderful, beautiful, and useful craft art; while, at the same time, creatively, clearly, and expertly TEACH others, are my HEROES/HEROINES.

I haven't read the other comments, but I have a couple ideas. 1) You could use washi around the sides instead of (or in addition to) sewing, and 2) You could sew lace on the angle cut before sewing the clear sheet to the paper backing of your side tuck design 😊

    Hi Natasha,
This is really a great idea! It is interesting because normally our journals are made with paper products and items to add another material like this definitely gives it a different look. I truly like the fact that you are looking at new ways to use everyday objects into making journaling. Every time we can repurpose something into another thing new it is a gift to the world to reduce waste. Which in this day and age is a good thing. Thanks again!

Originally, I had a 5x7 brag book. It was cheap. I used it to store my dies. I would take a 5x7 piece of cardstock and tape thin magnets to the cardstock. Then I would place the metal dies on top of the magnets, and slide them into pockets. I had separate brag books for different kinds of dies. For example, one for nested shapes like circles and squares. Another for flower shapes and another for border shapes. I added pretty papers into the cover pockets. This is a nice storage solution if you have a small number of dies.

You're a genius. I love these ideas. I've got several old photo books that I've hated throwing out. Now I know what to do with them.
Also, I've had great success gluing things onto plastic using a very thin line of "Gel Control Super Glue." You can see the glue so you have to cover it with lace, or trim, etc. Thanks for sharing this! 💞

Such great ideas, and you are right, the thrift shops have heaps of them. I do like the side-opening pocket as it means the transparent sheet doesn't get stretched. I am going to try that and hinge it to the edge of the page where you have the paper clip. The hinge would make it slightly narrower otherwise I think it should work. I love your channel, and the clear way you explain and demonstrate things. Thanks for the inspiration.
