    How can anyone give this video a thumbs down? It was very informative and to the point. Clearly the best video on TH-cam for this exact job. Thanks bud! Thumbs up!

      Might be because he says 2.5 gallons, but everywhere I've seen says 15 quarts. Which is 3 gallons and 1 quart.
      My local car quest said 13.......

      @@LightGesture I’ll un fuck you real quick. 2.5 gallon container is what he poured. Is in the heave diesel sometime buy them in the 2.5 gallon bottles because we are adding gallons not quarts to engines. He was simply pouring the one 2.5 gallon jug he had. Let’s hit some math real quick 2.5 gallons is 10 quarts. Plus his one gallon jug we now have 14 quarts and he added one more single quart we are smack dab at 15 quarts. Don’t thumbs down a video because you are confused haha obviously I’m bored and have time to write this shit hahaha

      @@LightGesture Learn to count and listen, he pour 1/2 quart in the filter, the other half in the engine, then the large 2.5 gal and finally the smaller 1 gal that's 3.5 gal plus a quart. = 15 quarts

      Thom help the children understand...
      half a qt. in filter...
      half qt. in engine...1 quart
      2.5 gal in engine. 10 quarts
      1 gal in engine...= 4 quart Now my Jethro Bodine school of ciphering says that's 15qts.

    Thanks, my man! Done a million oil changes but never on a 6.4 powerstroke and it's uncle's truck so a quick review with your tips takes the nerves out of doing it for a critical audience.

    I always drain the water separator at the same time. You will find it underneath the driver's side between the frame possible right on the frame inline with the drivers door just open the valve. I use a small glass jar to see the water separate from the fuel

  • @hikerJohn
    @hikerJohn ปีที่แล้ว

    Unscrew the oil filter ahead of time and let it drain while the engine drains and then you wont drip very much. I let mine drip for an hour but that works against the "Quicker Than The Pros" theme. If you do it at home there's no reason to hurry. You still have to transfer all the oil into the empty containers and take it someplace so the job is not done till that's done.

    Very 1st step is to remove the oil filter let it drain, then drop the oil.

    thanks for the vid first and foremost, but you have to check out the FoMoCo guidance on CK-4 oils in Powerstroke motors...you're not supposed to use it. CJ-4 or the Motorcraft oil only. Look for the bulletin that came out in 2016 when CK-4 hit the market. It doesn't lube your motor worth a DAMN, and voids warranty, etc.

    Is that Delo stuff Dino or Synthetic? First PSD guy I've ever seen use that. I change mine every 5k miles with Rotella T6 Fully Syn. I was using the 15W-40 for some time. But then they came out with a 5W-40 (Both T6). So I switched past few oil changes to the 5W-40.
    I think both are equally superior oils. (Both CK-4 rated now). 5W better for colder starts than the 15W. I'm in Jersey, so it doesn't really get brutally cold. But I noticed the past few years that big box stores in my area are readily carrying the 5w-40 rather than the 15w-40. I dunno. Since the truck was 50k miles young (at 100k now), I have sent samples out to Blackstone for analysis. Whether I was using the 15 or now the 5, I get equally outstanding reports.
    ......And FYI for the guy below who commented on CK-4 vs CJ-4 (which is what Ford spec'd "at the time"). CK-4 has since superseded the CJ-4 rating by API. In other words, you are going BEYOND Ford's recommendation with a CK-4 oil.

    adding oil to the filter housing will do nothing.... The first thing u do when u start your oil change is loosen the oil filter cap all the way.... When u do this it opens a drain back valve and allows the oil thats in the housing to go back to the pan, pouring oil in the housing before putting the filter back in only goes right to the pan..

    Found a 6.4 for a great price! Guy told me the water pump replaced and drain and fill on coolant, both fuel filters replaced and the fuel water separator bowl took apart cleaned, and reinstalled. The truck is all stock and has 248k miles. The truck is nice except for a ding here and a scratch there and a hole in the driver's seat. It's a lariat to. Really uncertain. Any advice

    • @TaylorSmithCars
      @TaylorSmithCars  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      sherlockhomesky make sure you have the correct oil cap. The first time I changed the oil on this truck it had an aftermarket filter and cap and I installed the Motorcraft filter with the aftermarket cap and the light came on every time I started it. It's very hard to tell the difference, but the cap is the problem for sure. You can pick up a Motorcraft cap on eBay for about $17 I think.
