One of the most deserved wins in this category. Brenda's performance in ''My Left Foot'' showed us that a Mother's love for her son is always unconditional.
Hello from Ireland, it certainly is not... what you saw was a romanticised view of what it was like. Ireland was horrific back then and was so until the middle of the 90s. We are finding horrors wherever we look and terrible abuse, a mother's love is not guaranteed Mrs Brown was the exception, not the rule.
@@andrewgoodbody2121 Mostly definitely was not the exception. The mothers from the 30s, 40s and 50s raised multiple children by themselves while the men drank the money. You don't know what you're talking about.
It is sad to hear that she is living all alone and finds the holidays to be very dark for her, especially New Years Eve. I just want to give her a big hug.
My brother lived across the road from her in the Coombe, she’s a lovely lady. But very lonely, I hope she knows how loved she is , I always tell my daughter that my brother lived across the road from the pigeon lady from home alone 2
Grew up watching her as a nurse in the UK tv show casualty, she had such a loving persona and was not one to be trifled with. Magnificent performance and well deserved.
Love to see the reactions of the nominees whose name is not called. Julia and Lena, not happy, Diane and Angelica were happy. Great to see when other actors seem genuinely pleased for the winner. Brenda deserved her win here.
She's good! Her acting in My left foot was better than Meryl Streep performance. Brenda Fricker really deserved this award. 18 years later, congratulations once more Brenda!
Well deserved so underrated... Remember her playing the nurse in the British medical drama in bbcs Casualty ❤. Shame she didn't get better movie roles she deserves especially in Hollywood very sexist and agesist
God bless Brenda for remembering to salute Christy Brown and his family. But then, Europeans always seem to have the grace to recall, remember, and salute what the film is really about, unlike Americans.
She played my nanie and dday Lewis played my uncle Christy, Brenda fricker is humble quiet women's ehi live in a old school terrace house in working class area of Dublina lady played my nanie greatly 🇮🇪✌️
I had never realized Brenda Frickers talent until I saw her appear in Home Alone 2 Lost in New York. Then I went and watched just her, love her! British actresses are the best.
Thank you to share this beautiful videotape, I have included it in the Album of the movie Stars, please scribe in the searching "Álbum de las Estrellas de Cine" or "Tribute Actress Famous" and go to the letter B of the alphabet that has the Album and choose the option BR, there all detailed one is

That's sad to hear 😢

Short, simple and to the point. She handled herself very well for someone who genuinely didn't expect to win but richly deserved to.
Pure class. No weeping or histrionics, just dignity and old world charm.
Grew up watching her as a nurse in the UK tv show casualty, she had such a loving persona and was not one to be trifled with.
Magnificent performance and well deserved.
So heartwarming to watch the gracious reactions of Anjelica Huston and Dianne Wiest.
❤❤❤😊
She's got a quiet confidence within herself that the leading lady types just don't have. Great actress.
omg is that the bird lady from home alone 2?
princepeterwolf yep she's a very accomplished actress she's now retired
@@ianmeadows917 she should have retired before that horrible movie
@@kipkunkle4667 how is it horrible
Yes, she won another supporting actress award as "the bird lady", I think the birds nominated her
some body This comment literally had me rolling on the ground!!! 😂😂
Brenda Fricker - the legend. Thanks and hugs, Ye bring a tear to a glass eye, love n love
Honestly, i started to watch this film for Daniel Day-Lewis....she gave a terrific performance too & i am glad that the academy identified that too.
Very well deserved , frame to frame excellent performance ❤🔥👏💯
She is the first Irish actress to win an oscar (best supporting actress)
and now we cross fingers for Saoirse!
@@helavolokin3 Much as I love Saoirse - she was born in the USA, Brenda would still be the first and still only Irish born winner.
@Paul It was an observation relating to the birth country of Brenda Fricker.
@@michaelmuldowney8
Richard Harris is the greatest Irish actor of all time imo
I wish he won in his day
@@michaelmuldowney8 Saoirse is Irish. It doesn't matter where she was born. What a weird comment lol
Both her and DD Lewis well deserved Oscar. both were amazing!!!
She's Irish

Wow . I was waiting for this long ... This is the only clip I haven't seen from acting catagories
Hello dear
One of the few times when the Academy got it absolutely right. She was amazing. Cristy´s mother.
gotta love Julia's reaction when Fricker is announced LOL
eduardo ramirez Lena Olin's wasn't too dissimilar either.
JasonC1782 Exactly.. I don't understand why some people unnecessarily pull down Julia at times..
eduardo ramirez class
And Lena Olin .
Julia Roberts had won the Golden Globe so she probably thought she had it all wrapped up.
Brenda Fricker had great acting in My Left Foot.
jwelch5742 from home alone 2 wow!
Shame on Hollywood for not giving her more roles, she had star-material
She did get quite a few offers in Hollywood
Yep
Erm, Home Alone 2?
I watched "ENEMIES..." today and Anjelica was amazing!
She's good! Her acting in My left foot was better than Meryl Streep performance. Brenda Fricker really deserved this award. 18 years later, congratulations once more Brenda!
Karen Van Vuuren Meryl Streep? She wasn’t nominated
You mean 28
O
Billy Crystal. Kevin Kline. Brenda Fricker. Jeff Bridges. Julia Roberts. Angelica Huston.....
Two thoughts 1. what a humble talented woman 2. Mrs. Brown gave birth 22 times!!~!!
Isn't that the actress who portrayed the pigeon lady in Home Alone 2?
Yep
Yes
Classiest speech I’ve ever heard x
Hello dear ❤️💕💕
I thought she won for the pigeon lady in Home Alone 2
😂😂
A dire part and a waste of her talent.
Howling.😂😂😂
Brenda was frickin awesome in my left foot
Lena Olin was NOT impressed. She looks stunning, though
Wins Oscar, spends entire speech repeating " I'd like to thank" over and over. Class.
Simply a great performance.... unexpected but very deserved!
She was really great in my left foot!

Brilliant actress and well deserved Oscar :-)
Brenda clasps her chest on hearing her name. Love it. Great actress.
Thank you Ms Fricker
God bless Brenda for remembering to salute Christy Brown and his family. But then, Europeans always seem to have the grace to recall, remember, and salute what the film is really about, unlike Americans.
You mean like every other Oscar winner who wins for playing a real person, American or non-American?
John Kerr STFU. You don’t know jack

GREAT WINNER BRENDA
Thank you Phobe Cates.
Loved her in Home Alone 2
She played the pigeon lady.
"It's in here that battles are won"
One of the most beautiful and touching quotes I have ever heard!
when oscar was peaceful, no drama and political
Kline was actually married to the producer's niece and was not related to him.
I love this woman
The coolest Part was after her speech.
Julia was pissed! She had won the Golden Globe and was considered the favourite.
Kevin! Tank ye!
I remember them showing clips from the movies. Am I wrong or were they edited out?

This movie was brillant daniel day lewis also won
The Pigeon Lady and Maggie the Foster Mother from Angels in the Outfield!
Look up Tommy Tiernan's interview with Brenda Fricker.
I read once from an interview she did she was shocked. She thought Huston was going to win.
Serves her right for stealing Best Supporting Actress from Oprah in 1986!
1:53
Am I the only one who feels this was a lead performance?
She was cool!
Julia should've been nominated for Best Actress
They probably put field in that category and she got snubbed. Rancid academy.
She didn't thank Daniel Day Lewis. Sight or oversight?
Why would she have to thank him? For what?
He didn't thank her, either. Only Hugh O'conner.
this actress Brenda Fricker i see the movie of 1992 "Home Alone 2 Lost In New York" With Macaulay Culkin Joe Pesci Daniel Stern John Heard & Catherine O'Hara
Home alone 2 and Angels in the outfield ❤❤❤
My god Julia was there in 90s !! How old is she :o
Just Observe 49 years old
She was 23 back then
And easier win than Day-Lewis' win. No disrespect, but this was a no-brainer.
No tears no bullshit 👍

Still the ONLY Irish actress person to win an acting Oscar.
Barry Fitzgerald won best supporting actor
@@icemanire5467 yes - you are correct. Im amending my post. Thanks
Now Cillian Murphy for Oppenheimer. (Best Actor) Just need a Saiorse Ronan win…!
I love the bridges boys...and their mum and dad were real talents too
The Irish are legit on another level
How did this major award get past the radar all these years?
The only movie I can mention with besides that movie is Home Alone 2, which is from 1992 (I think).
I guess they just never got around to it
This presentation was already posted, in the playlists section.
No thank you to her co-star??
She thanked "Every single member..."
yes but not by name
are you an idion or just joking?
Does she need to thank DDL? If she did then she'd probably feel obliged to thank loads of the other actors she worked with on the film too.
He didn’t thank her either...
Julia thought she had it in the bag
When the oscars were fun to watch ... now just a bunch people being political 🙄
and to think BAFTA snubbed her.
That should have been Olin's Oscar! After enemies and unbearable she still doesn't have an Oscar.
Shameful academy!
No. That's not Piers Morgan.
She definitely didn't see that coming
A cara da Julia Roberts, hahahahahaha
