  • How I used Peco Streamline Code 80 track to connect to Kato Unitrack on one of my T Trak modules.
    Peco Code 80 track used in this video:
    - SL-E395 Right hand Electrofrog turnout
    - SL-E396 Left hand Electrofrog turnout
    - SL-302 Flexible track (concrete sleeper)

    UGH FINALLY. Somebody confirming this through demonstration. I despise kato 4 turnouts, actually i despise kato turnouts, and was hoping i could do something else. THANK YOU!

    I enjoyed wayching your earlier video of how the No 4 and No 6 points work and I thought that I might get some to use, but this video has just convinced me not to bother and to stick with Peco. I can't stand derailments. Thanks anyway. Keith

    I found that this same method also works nicely to join Peco Code 55 track to Kato Unitrack. Using the Kato connectors ends up with the code 55 track being a little too high, but when using the Peco ones it lines up just right

      Hi, that's good info to know for those using the Peco code 55. Thanks!

    Just a piece of advice when you fit your new Peco points. If you think that you might go to DCC with block computer control, fit many more plastic fishplates NOW, otherwise you will have to take everything up again to fit later. You can always bridge the plastic fishplates with wire for use now. Keith

      Absolutely Keith, planning ahead if you are going to take that path will save a lot of headaches later! John

    Fantastic idea of joining the kato to peco with the original track instead of kato gender modification track. I had coupling issues with my HST125 when I ran it on the Kato to peco on the straights in one direction but weirdly found if the power loco pushed it around I had no de coupling faults?
    Brilliant quality update to your layout 👍 keep them a coming and thanks for sharing John😎

    • @wimbletrain
      @wimbletrain  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Phil, you uncoupling issue sounds strange! I tend to only have issues around curves on the odd occasion. I haven't had any issues with my HST125 so far. Did you use code 80 or code 55 Peco? Thanks for your kind comments. John

      @whatsitaboutwithphilcraig6661 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi John thanks for getting back to me regarding my issues 😂 So I have Peco 80 track and all could be fine for a running session for the HST125 but then the next day intermittent coupling issues? All my rolling stock and locomotives are parked on the layout constantly except for the rare occasion to run a new locomotive on the DCC track after coding.
      Only thing I can think of is that I’ve changed all my lighting on the coaches to retro Dapol led lighting and may have disturbed something on the coaches with my sausage fingers? However I had the fault more often before than after the refit. So I’m confused to what’s going on ? I’m getting a extra coach and a light bar from my daughter for Christmas so thinking twice now will it create more issues adding more to the rake?
      Thanks again ,John getting back to me I really appreciate it 👍

    Nice job. I know nothing about UK track and standards, but in the States #4 turnouts stopped being used decades ago except in some legacy places where there was no possible way to upgrade. Mainline turnouts for crossovers and such are almost ALWAYS #10 turnouts with #6 turnouts only used in yard ladders and similar slow speed switching environments. Longer railcars, passenger cars, and newer/heavier locos cannot easily navigate tighter turnouts or curves. Six or more axle trucks also don't cope well with tighter radius turnouts. That said, Kato really needs to start selling #10 turnouts.
    Anyway, great job on fitting that peco into your unitrack environment!

      Hi Samantha, that's interesting info as I was unaware of any of that. I don't use #4s for the same reason, the locos with triple bogies just don't want to run across them reliably. All the best and thanks. John

    Greetings Australia and G’day John 🌞 a very timely video as I have recently picked up some code 80 myself 😁 it also a great inspiration to not put up with under performing track work and find a better solution 😇 Excellent presentation as always 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Very best wishes from The Emerald Isle ☘️

      Thanks Paul, thanks to the vast resources available these days it's great that we can look at so many different approaches to something and hopefully make a good choice on how to go about it (what best suits you). I just show the way I did it, whether it's the best way or not I can't say 100%. Have a great week!
      BTW - did you pick up on the subtle inclusion of the Westerns? (Mr Piddle made comment)

      I’m trying to keep a lower profile on the Western front 🤠😲 as Wicklow is closer than North Yorkshire to Somersex 😱 Mr. Ireland does love those Westerns ❤️ To be fair they are not as “ugly” as the “Warships” 🤐🤣🤣🤣🤣

    Here in Perth, we seem to have a total lack of anything.
    This solves a problem . I assume now Tomix track will also join Kato.
    From what I can see, it appears Frontline Hobbies Broadmeadow NSW is the best shop in the entire nation. Both with stock and price.

      Hi, I haven't dealt with Tomix track, so I'm not sure how it would join Kato track. I do buy a fair bit of stuff from Frontline, as you say they are good in terms of price and stock availability. Also, if you are in a metro area, then they offer free postage if you spend min $150.

    Hi John, I am surprised you had problems the the Kato track as a friend of mine swears by it and not at it. Good to see you got it sorted though. Lovely Westerns !

    • @wimbletrain
      @wimbletrain  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      First of all Mark, well done on spotting the Westerns, they were put in there on purpose after the videos by Gemma and yourself in recent times! The main issue I had with the Kato was the #4 points and so did others. But in saying that, mine were all the really old batch so maybe the newer ones perform better.

    @Wimbletrain ... I could not find what size Peco turnout did you use? (Seems to me that Peco has a "small", a #6, and a #8..but I can't tell which one you ended up using )

    fine work. i wish i had your skills regarding turnouts. why all the mix and match with track?

    • @wimbletrain
      @wimbletrain  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      G'day John and thanks. Bit of a story as to why I started using the Peco track. I had issues with the tighter radius Kato #4 turnouts with some locos constantly derailing so I decided I would use the Peco turnouts as a replacement. It also gave me a chance to play around using servos to operate the Peco turnouts. The Kato turnouts just operate with a momentary pulse of around 12V DC (and then a momentary pulse of 12V in reverse polarity to switch it back) i.e. they don't require any external turnout motor. Cheers, John
