great stories have no villains ... soul shaking performance, heart piercing songs, what lyrics ... zindagi tere gam ne hamein rishte naye samjhaye .... a movie that shook many years ago and shakes you every time you watch it, will it ever lose its charm, can it ever fail to bring tears, i doubt, i do
Whenever I see this movie, i cry continuously... The innocence of jugal hansraj is really heart touching... The moment when he said 'Sorry Aunty' is breath taking.. After knowing all the truth that his father doesn't want to accept him, he worried for others... And that song is i think always be no. 1 song in every era.. One line is from that song I like so much "jine k lia socha hi ni, dard sambhalne honge"......... EPIC
Evergreen classic.... No silly song and dance, no commercial hype, no baseless actions and dialogues... Jawdropping cinematography, heartouching bg music, and a timeless tale.... Thumbs up watching in 2016!
You can't even leave your seat during watching this movie. Every second of the scenes is remarkable. No dance, no comedy, no action, no over acting, just a heart touching
Another awesome role by Shabana Azmi with Naseeuddin Shah complimenting her. The movie takes on such a complicated web of feelings with such ease. For a moment one can feel a part of this family sharing the sorrows and joy. I would like to appreciate the people who have created such a masterpiece.
This is one of the most beautifully made movies ever. The acting, the dialogue, the expressions, the superbly shaded nuances in each performance are exceptional...and the exquisite music and lyrics to the songs just drive that emotional knife that much deeper to the core of you...it breaks your heart into a million pieces each time you watch it. By the time you reach the deeply satisfying end, your eyes are almost too swollen with tears for you to cheer but doesn't matter...your heart can cheer instead!
We owned this film on vhs in Karachi Pakistan when me and my brother were children in the 1980’s. We used to watch and enjoy lakri ki Kathi and it was a very popular song amongst the children then. Little that we fully understood this movie back then but I watched it years later and the last scene bring tears of joy to the eye now. What a beautiful emotional film with emotional and happy ending.
zindagi tere gam ne hume rishtey naye samjhaaye. what a poetic and philosophical line. very deep and thought provoking. ohh!!! those were the days of simplicity when true works of art were made!!
Marvelous acting by shabana azmi... Jugal hansraj looked tooo cute as Rahul. Urmila was charming. Nd d little Minnie was outstanding.. Loved d movie Nd it's melodious songs..
Every one did commendable work to make Masoom (1983) a reality. You may breath the freshnes in scenes. Nainital's beauty is also represented nicely via cinematography, Tiffin Top , Naini Lake , The school too I guess its St. Joseph.
Perfect piece of art. None but Nasir sir and Shabana ma'am can do this. Jugal is perfect choice for this character. After a long period tears fell from my eyes. When my daughters will grow up I will surely suggest to watch this classic. I am far small to say anything about the great gulzar sahib.
Kitni tareef kru is movie ki, characters ki , is saadgi ki, gaano ki sb behtr se behtreen hn❤️😭 i never cried this much on any story but this one 😭😭😭❤️
Really the title suits 100% Masoom❤.... Whenever i see , tears roll out of my eyes... No matter how strong mature I have become... From childhood to adult
In the 80's I watched this movie and cried a lot. After 13 years of marriage. My husband left me with my 9 and 10 year old sons. Committing adultery. Today I am watching this movie alone. My sons are grown.
My thrust never ends, each time I watch it gives me more thrust, tears in my eyes. I am not a movie specialist. I get amazed to see the beauty of nature, flowers, colours, emotions, dialogues, music, script. This movie made when I was just 7 years. But saw it first time in 2004. I can say Gulzar saab, Shekhar kapoor, Nasir Uddin Shah, Shabana Azmi, Sayed Jafri. All of the character artists are amazing. Maybe one of their best performance of their career. I feel like it is a story that made all of us so humble to each other.
Evergreen classic.... No silly song and dance, no commercial hype, no baseless actions and dialogues... Jawdropping cinematography, heartouching bg music, and a timeless tale.... Thumbs up watching in 2016! this is called movie . i bet noone can do this typre of movie now.

one of the best movies ever made in Bollywood! seriously, every scene and dialogue in this movie is directed with finesse. i don't think any director in Bollywood would be able to come closer to Shekhar Kapur in terms of direction. also, the brilliant performances of Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi and the child artiste Jugal Hansraj (of course!) elevates this movie to a whole new level. seriously, this movie should have been nominated for the best foreign film for Oscars. it's just a masterpiece!
Maturity in Rahul's character is uncanny. As I was getting too emotional watching the movie, I checked it thinking if the roles were reversed, Rahul as Indu's illegitimate son. All our emotions would go down the drain. We as a society are hypocrite.

This is the most heart touching movie I've ever come across.. such simplicity plus genius acting by the entire cast. Naseruddin Shah melted hearts with that perfect performance and then there was jugal hansraj , who cannot love a child like that ?? The most classic masterpiece. I can watch it for a million times.

2020, after more than 30 years, I still like the story, songs and acting. What a perfect movie. This movie is living inside from childhood. Well done Masoom. Love form the Maldives.
I remember watching this movie as a kid and who would think that Urmila Matondkar would become the superstar she is today, all because of this as her first movie in 1983? This movie is from 36 years ago when Urmila was only 9.
I watched this movie first time (2019)and i crying internally... jugal hansraj is very cute boy and urmila his sister also...very heart touching story. My heart many many time watch this movie.
I was 4-5 years old when my parents took me along to watch this movie at the local cinema. I was super excited because of the 'lakdi ki kaathi' song. Little did I know this was too heavy for a 4 yr old. I was crying the whole time. However, Do Naina is still one of my fav songs.
@@drakedrones Depends what concept you are talking about? Obviously at that young age, I didn't understand the concept of extra-marital affair or why children born out of wedlock were looked down upon by the society. But I had enough EQ to realise that Jugal Hansraj's character really missed his mother and was longing for motherly love and wanted a family he could call his own. However Shabana Azmi's character behaved so cold towards him as if it was all his fault 😢
I started watching this movie for the first time today 22.2.2023 because of it's songs which I had been listening from my childhood. I ended up crying embarrassingly at my age of 43 infront of my wife when at railway station 2:17:00 - 2:18:00 Rahul huged his father and said " Apko mein kaisey bhul sakta hoon, aap to mere papa hein na!". A masterpiece of hindi cinema!
Dear Brother : I am now 49. I watched it first when I was in class 1 i.e. 1981. Till date I have watched it many times. Still not able to hold my tears in many of the scenes. That is the reason I don't risk it watching with others. Always watch alone. So that I have the freedom of crying like a child. Even sitting in the office watching the songs brings tears to my eyes.
The film was ahead of its times I watching it now in 2023 and feels like story is of today’s times all filmography music actors all is very nice 😊😊nice movie . The possibility of event shown in this movie there occurance is more likely to happen today. And these guys lived moments at that time. And delhi life and delhi is shown the same as it is .
I watch this film just because of I heard the song Do naina.... when last few minutes remains then tears roll down on my cheeks... hat of old movie like masoom ... just awesome...
asif Naagra peace unto you I am from California; the land of filmmaking and Hollywood... Bollywood copies the name from... Ideas for movies are shared around the world... Truly, does it really matter? May we around the world just enjoy the variety of styles that people create for expressing and enjoying the ideas for providing entertainment to the masses?

I am just speechless! Amazing film. I was just unable to controle my tears while watching this film. It was so wonderful to cry. Actually my old stuck energy got released. Now I feel light hearted. Thanks for uploading this great piece of classic movie. Thumbs up to Naseeruddin Shah and Shaban Azmi, they haved just done justice to their roles. Indeed they are great actors.
What an Amazing Movie! Wow! Ek patthar dil Bhi Dekh kar Roney lagega! Hatts off to you Shekar kapoor! Shabana Azmi ji Performance is Outstanding! Naseerudin shah and Jugal Hansraj performance!! Outstanding ! 😢😢
I just watched it today. Didn't know what was it about. Came to know about this movie from the song 'tujse naraj nahi zindegi'. Can you recommend any other hindi classic of this caliber?
I have gone through the same moment when Naseet Uddin is seeing his son off at Platform. Heartbreaking moment. Cant hold the tears.....Heart-touching acting of Masoom Kid Jugl Hansraj, every one played his best in this movie. This is called the movie with the meaning. GREAT MOVIE!
As an 80s kid I used to enjoy the song lakdi ki kathi a lot. My sister and I would sing it in every family gathering. The symbolism in the film at many place is really heartwarming. Naseeruddin Shah's guilt when he sees Jugal Hansraj's sketch of his father who he had never seen, wearing glasses. Naseer asks him does your dad wear glasses and the child emphatically says yes. Naseer suddenly realises that he is also wearing glasses and guiltily proceeds to remove them. Shabana Azmi feels motherly towards the boy and comes to his room to cover him and out of curiosity looks at the photo frame with his mother, returns to her room hurt and feels that she has been replaced by Jugal's mom in her pictures with Naseeruddin shah. Anger and jealousy seizes her as she remembers that Jugal is symbol of her husband's extramarital affair and angrily declares after tossing the boy's bangle box gift, "Le jaao apne bete ko." Shabana Azmi getting startled in kitchen when the boy suddenly calls her mamaa and then recovering from the shock and declaring coldly, "main mummy nahi hoon" and storming off. Naseeruddin shah's dejection at not being able to give his son his water bottle and then being pleasantly surprised to see the boy happily squabbling with his half sisters in the car. The relief on his face when his wife smiles at him for the first time in months saying "yahi baithe rahoge ki ghar bhi chaloge". The new family photo in the end with Jugal sitting on Shabana Azmi;s lap. Lovely.🥰 I found the above symbolisms more touching than the melodramatic climax after the boy is found by the police.
I remember watching it for the first time on DD in the late 1990's as a young guy and crying. This movie should be celebrated as being one of the best hindi movies has to offer. So clean, effortless, touching and true. This is a classic if ever there was one!!! RD Burman, Gulzar, Naseeruddin, Shabana, not to mention Jugal Hansraaj and Urmila, added another dimension to the film. A lot of movies have been made about children, for children, none better portraying the psyche of a child....ah I could watch it over and over again.
when I was a child I watched it from d child perspective...now wen I become a wife m watching from the mother's(sabana) perspective...how c s bearing everything ...!!!!
Awww .. seeing this movie for the first time and I just feel very sad for Jugal he’s sooo cute 😭😭😭😭 and I don’t like how his stepmother treats him . It’s so sad 💔💔💔😓😭. Thank for the subtitles in English. Love to India 🇮🇳 from 🇺🇸 USA and MEXICO 🇲🇽.
Masoom is such a shandaar movie.liked every bit of the movie.can’t stop my tears while watching it,Thousands hugs to the lovely and very talented kid Rahul🤗
l was 9 while watching the film l felt sleep ,then my dad woke me and said ...dekho tumhara gana ..lakri ki kati....l never forget that wow such a memorable days was...
Here..this movie feels more impactful then the original.....idea is from western movie yet adopted in indian society very well..great Gulzar showed his brilliance in moulding the story with impressive emotional scene....very controlled emotion..no drama..ofcourse soul of the movie is young boy...attractive as well full of innocence...but one thing to mention here shabana azami looks so real that he almost overshadowed naseerudin shah...great performance of her..yet it was simple but not an easy role of a women going through hell of her life and feeling insulated and betrayed.....shekhar kapoor is good with his simple direction..allowing a smooth pace ...like a real life...but this perhaps the only movie which overshadowed its original hollywood version.......Last scene of the movie is to clean your soul a bit with few tears
Date - 04-04-2024 2:17:03

I’m from Pakistan 🇵🇰 and I was 6 years old I watched this movie with parents on cassette VCR
@@Noah-un3os yes. Now I understand he made a mistake.
At 4 you understood the concept?
@@drakedrones Depends what concept you are talking about? Obviously at that young age, I didn't understand the concept of extra-marital affair or why children born out of wedlock were looked down upon by the society. But I had enough EQ to realise that Jugal Hansraj's character really missed his mother and was longing for motherly love and wanted a family he could call his own. However Shabana Azmi's character behaved so cold towards him as if it was all his fault 😢
All the actors and actresses in this movie are legends
Especially Naseeruddin and Shabana 😍😍
I saw this movie in the 80's.
Even now feel the same way.
A wonderful film.
Show's reality in some one life.
Its a tribute to watch nasir sahab n sabana jee act together. Its the combination of the century!!! am a great fan of them together !!!!
One of the greatest movies in the history of Indian cinema. A True masterpiece.
The little girl is the cutest child actor I have ever seen and admired..love this movie
Same feeling bro at 26/03/2023
Dear Brother : I am now 49.
@@anitmiliroy this movie released in 1983, atleast as per google. And wow, you're 31 years older than me! This year you turn 50, happy golden jubilee!
The film was ahead of its times I watching it now in 2023 and feels like story is of today’s times all filmography music actors all is very nice 😊😊nice movie . May we around the world just enjoy the variety of styles that people create for expressing and enjoying the ideas for providing entertainment to the masses?
Its so realistic, I have no words how to praise the directors and actors. All the characters were crafted to the masterpiece.

Cried my heart out after a long time... Just superb!!
Anger and jealousy seizes her as she remembers that Jugal is symbol of her husband's extramarital affair and angrily declares after tossing the boy's bangle box gift, "Le jaao apne bete ko."
Shabana Azmi getting startled in kitchen when the boy suddenly calls her mamaa and then recovering from the shock and declaring coldly, "main mummy nahi hoon" and storming off.
Lovely.🥰
I found the above symbolisms more touching than the melodramatic climax after the boy is found by the police.
