I have watched this video dozens of times. I actually bought the exact mini lathe on sale for $500 just because of your videos. Excellent work, very informative 👍
Yes you are correct about having a handle on your file. But what is the correct file to use on any lathe? A left handed file. That way your filing action will take your hand away from the spindle and or chuck. Give it a try. Nice looking pen.
Hey, Metal by the Foot! I recognize that scap cutoff writing anywhere. I'm rummaging around their scrap bins for milling material at least once a week. Keep up the good work. Good to see a KC guy doing good things.
Haha good eye! Love them as a supplier, I feel like us here in the KC area are pretty fortunate to have a place like them that deals in small amounts and a variety of materials and shapes. I'm overdue for a visit! Thanks for watching!!
A beautiful gift i bet she was pleased. Iv always wanted to have the skills for this kind of thing but i have so many hobbies its hard to fit evrything in already but im very jellous it really is a work of art
You were pretty pleased with it lol and well you should be. I can only imagine the pride a mother would feel receiving a gift as beautiful as that pen, and then to be getting it from her own son. Well done sir well done. I will subscribe to your channel and follow you for sure. Thank you for that video it was very good. You made that look so simple lol. I'm a woodworker and I am just finding an interest in metal. Ah the possibility s.
I'm really curious if this pen is comfortable to write with? I mean, the thread that holds the cap, seems to be a little sharp, and quite high, so there is a chance that while writing, our hand would slide on it, and it could hurt after some time ... beside that i think you did a great job :D
Running the lathe in opposite direction to save the chips downwards and not fly all over. Good to do if your chuck locks on so as not to unscrew if you have a hard cut.
Todd Wall , renaissance wax.... Protects the metal without the ugly clear coat that inevitably chips off and looks terrible. It does take maintenance but its worth it.
Nice work! I have two questions. Why do you put your parting tool in upside down and turn in reverse? Also, how did you make that beautiful box? Cheers!
I have in the past and might be able to in the future, right now I don't have very much shop time as I'm about to be in the middle of a move, so I don't think it'd be good for either of us for me to take on customer work right now, thank you for the interest though!
Hello, I am a machinist who makes custom pens and heard that you are looking for one. I make these all the time and was wondering if you are still interested. If you are, please email me at paul@enzinger.us or visit my etsy shop :windsorworks.etsy.com
Giday mate , just wondering why you are using the parting blade upside down ? Maybe I have bad eyes .... I could see the metal trying to jump up because the blade is wrong way . As far as I know the force of the blade should be downwards not upwards ..... Forgive me If my assumptions are wrong.
+outbackdigital on my little lathe for certain operations it's easier to run a parting blade upside down with the spindle in reverse to avoid binding, the tool is just pushed out of the way instead of being pushed down and jamming into the work. Thanks for watching and great catch!!
+Cactus! workshop yeah regretfully I didn't have a chance to get in on that this year 😕 I had a couple ideas but it didn't work out to get them executed in time

Great idea using the tap wrench as a tiny collet! I'm definitely going to try that!

Great work. I always wanted a brass pen. I would buy one like this, you should consider making more.
Very well done. What a great gift to have been given.

Great Job, thanks for sharing as it's a project I'm intending on making myself, subscribed.
I`m curious as to why you were parting off with the bit upside down and lathe in reverse ?
Because it’s easier on small lathes
Running the lathe in opposite direction to save the chips downwards and not fly all over. Good to do if your chuck locks on so as not to unscrew if you have a hard cut.
This pen reminds me the model *FILA* *_tratto clip_*
Golf balls work great as file handles
Is that A2ZCNC QTCP? Got one for my Sherline last year and I love it!
Hey man you should use the files left handed at all times anyway.
AWESOME WORK SIR
You should make PDF instructions
Did you clear it? If not, what did you use so the brass won't tarnish?
Todd Wall , renaissance wax.... Protects the metal without the ugly clear coat that inevitably chips off and looks terrible. It does take maintenance but its worth it.
Good job!
Nice Job
very nive, ever consider a radius tool
Nice work! I have two questions. Why do you put your parting tool in upside down and turn in reverse? Also, how did you make that beautiful box? Cheers!
So he can take advantage of gravity and the chips fall down versus shooting up and at the operator.
Hi my name is Jonathan Cooper what is the chances of ordering one of those pens and what would you charge ?

Practical Renaissance. To get a really good shine on it use some steel wool it makes it shine
Just a tip, you don't have to state your name in a comment because it already displays it
Don't wear loose clothing while operating a lathe. Shirt tails can get caught by the spinning chuck or work piece. Stay safe
Great work! Did you etch it? Thanks for sharing
Oh and really like the tap wrench part holder tip.
Awesome👍
hi do you have in stock this pen?
Forgive my ignorance but isn't brass the metal that smells or makes an odor with skin contact?
Well can't say anything about brass, but copper definately leaves a scent on your hands when you fiddle with it
+TRBRY yes, but you can coat it with lacquer which will prevent it from tarnishing and smelling
sade bras is made with copper and zinc. So ya it'll have the same effect.
Blake Jones wait brass is an alloy?
