Phil B I think its even cooler to be hired as a classic car racer. Much more at stake, much less forgiving, much less spotlight.. yet flat out driving is required.
I am sooo old when I was a kid the F1 drivers didn't exercise, they used to drink and smoke a lot and attend to wild parties all night long and somehow be "kinda" ready for the race next morning.
I think rally is way better, however what i would love is a race held on rally roads with side to side competition between drivers and not a time attack like is rally now.
This is one of the best documentary series I’ve ever seen in my entire life. I’ve had ZERO interest in Formula 1. This completely changed my perspective and attitude towards the sport. I’ve recommended this show to everyone that I know and everyone that has seen it has become a fan. Not just of the show, but of F1 as well. We all got together last Sunday and watched the Australian GP. It was all of our first time ever watching a live F1 race. Thanks to everyone that made this documentary series.
None of the F1 drivers can afford to worry about it, doesn't matter who they are and which team they drive for. If they start worrying, they stop going to the limit, and you have to go to the limit to be able to make results.
I love F1, am not American and well up to date with F1 history and past and current rivalries. But the focus of a team of content makers, Netflix in this case, really decided if we were going to watch the decline/rise of a few hand picked favourites like Daniel Ricciardo, Esteban Ocon and Haas team to name some (and of course American Zak Brown is a regular in the show, even though his team is tanking), or if we would have had the chance to follow the rise or heights of drivers who actually drive to win all these races and seasons. I, for one, would have rather seen drivers like Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton in the role of protagonist instead of in the roles of mere extra's. Not only did I want to get to know these two exciting, already historic drivers better, but as a viewer I also wanted to see more of their battles covered. Major races are skipped in this series, or the makers only focus on the guys battling for 6th or 7th place. What a shame. We are left with a lot of bickering, disingenuous drama and meh stories of a few Netflix-selected selected drivers and teams. Who frankly were rather boring in comparison. Good premise but amissed chance of the makers. I wonder if Netflix can pull out their own hairs by now, that instead of documenting the rise of such an epic driver as Max Verstappen ( 'once in a generation' Tlent according to several former World champions), or documenting the victories of a historic driver like Hamilton, they were fussing about fake rivalries with drivers competing for 7th place. No offense but it is almost like the makers moved in a parallel universe; one where Netflix likes to put the focus, right next to the real championships where the rest of the world puts its focus on. A missed chance.
greenspectrum But to an avid fan of the sport, it doesn't give you the full picture. The show cherrypicks which drivers and teams they follow and they overexaggerate and overdramatize events. My god, even the sound of the cars smashing is the same fake sound effect they use for the whole of the series. This series is just a stepping stone because it does not do the whole season justice.
Seb, Lewis and Alonso doing donuts at the end, Seb crashing, Ferraris starting strong and then Hamilton catching up, Force India's financial struggles but still pulling through as the perfect underdog, fallen giants McLaren and Williams, Haas's epic first race..... Perfect movie plotlines, all of these
In all honesty, it doesn't deserve more attention. As much as I have loved the sport, it's been ruined for years, much like other professional sports. Too many dramatic drivers that all expect everything handed to them. Get in the car and drive. I am saying this about most of the drivers, not all. F1 today is a joke.

This show, while dramatizing many events, sparked an interest in one of the only sports I follow now. Season 1 was all about the rise of Max. Now the 2023 season was all about the domination of Max. Amazing to see this. Hope we get to see these drivers for as long as possible. The OG DTS drivers and principals will have a special place in our memory.

Very cool! A pity that the championship this year isn't as exciting as last year. Mercedes will win, without a doubt. But there is at least enough tension if Hamilton or Bottas will win.
Love this series, I hope they make one covering the 2019 season aswell. Only problem is they don't cover the winning teams, at all. The series largely covers the stuggling teams, which is no bad thing as you get to see how hard the actually fight, there's blood, sweat and tears, but mostly blood. But I would like just one episode covering the fight between Mercedes and Ferrari.
