    Thanks for watching guys!! Currently I’m still using Roam for synthesising. But sometimes use other apps like Amplenote for other purposes like personal CRM and quickly jotting down ideas on mobile.
    I don’t think it’s a good idea to switch apps whenever there’s a new one (Shiny new toy syndrome). So just use the ones that work for you the best!

    • @yathprem
      @yathprem 3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Definitely agree with Shiny New Toy Syndrome - stuck with Notion even throughout the Roam hype, it only meant I got more and more advanced in Notion rather than spreading myself thin across too many apps 😅

      @@yathprem I've been on the Microsoft stack for the longest time. "Can I do this in my tools" is a pretty frequent thought when basically every productivity blogger lives on Apple+Google+Todoist+Evernote and moved to trendy indie apps.

      What features does AmpleNote lack that means you cannot ditch Roam? After all one can synthesise in a plain text editor and import into Roam and then use Roam features for discovery - that's what I do.

      Totally get the danger of shiny new productivity app syndrome. But I've been using OneNote for years and it's just too limiting - the tasks are just dumb check boxes, you can't easily connect tasks to a calendar, and all the notes are disconnected, and end up getting buried and forgotten. You had the best overview on TH-cam that I could find, and I think I'm convinced - it has the second-brain bi-directional linking of Roam but with the UI and integration of most popular notes/task apps. Thanks for the review!

    Oh dear. This is just brilliant. And I just got started with Obsidian. And I love it but it is tricky to do tasks and time blocking and get to actual execution. Thank you for the overview! 👏👏👏

    Thanks Shu. It looks like Amplenote has the features and design that would be intuitive to me and simplify my workflow. You did a great job showcasing that and revealing its potential.

      I'd agree, it looks to be just what i need, although I can't see myself switching to it until they make a desktop version. A desktop version is already my preference but its UI also seemed to appear too crowded in the web version and that would most likely be less the case on desktop.

    Good stuff, Shu. Pretty great looking application. I like that the tag system acts like a filing cabinet, yet you can also look at the individual notes and their bidirectional links. That makes a lot of sense to me. I would also miss the side page in Roam though, hopefully they add that soon

    I always wished more productivity tools included this feature (introduced by Orgmode I believe) to have tasks in your notes and have them all pulled up in an agenda view. It seems like Amplenote did take some notes from great concepts of the past and put them together in a more modern format. Not a bad idea at all 👍

      I definitely second this. I switched from Workflowy to Roam as it was an obvious evolutionary leap. My sense is Amplenote is in the right direction to go that extra step further.

    Thanks Shu. Have u try nimbus note before? It looks very similar to this. However, I have a few queries on this
    1) Can the tags and notes be manually sort?
    2) Does it support table feature (with merge and split cell capabilities)
    3) Support programming code which can be autohighlight the keywords with different color
    4) Support table (similar to evernote table) with merging and split cells capabilities
    If the above cannot be achieved, then i would actually prefer nimbus note (a software similar to notion) to Amplenote. Although nimbus note currently could not done 1) and 2), but 3) and 4) it can achieve

    I would like to ask if Amplenote supports voice typing/dictation in any way? Very often, when I jot down quick notes, I vioce type/dictate my note into the app. The situation is the same with journaling. However, this does not seem to work on Amplenote. It is a great app, but the lack of this function is a deal-breaker for me. I could imagine it as a secondary note-taking app, where I copy-paste my notes.

    Question: Can you work 90-100% keyboard-only based using this tool?
    Sticking with Omnifocus that I integrate with Sorted3 for now.
    (And Roam for notes)

    • @Amplenote
      @Amplenote 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely! We frequently consolidate the list of keyboard shortcuts for the app (from note linking, to task commands such as moving and scheduling, to our Quick-open navigation).

    One thing that bugs me about Notion is that every table is automatically created as a database. I would like to create an unstructured table, but that's how I send "To-Do's" and questions to my clients, which they love. Can Amplenote do that?

    AFAICT most PKM/TM inter-app migration processes keep the content but lose the links (between migrated notes/nodes, eg they link only back to the original). Is that correct? Is this one the same - e.g. from Evernote or Notion ?

    • @stephanbranczyk8306
      @stephanbranczyk8306 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ShuOmi_Official I agree, but it would be nice if they had a 15-day free trial or something. Even a 4 hour trial would be helpful. I've tried so many note taking apps, only to abandon them a week later. I have so many questions. For instance, does it support syntax highlighting for code samples (and/or for the Kotlin programming language in particular)? If so, at what tier? The pricing explanation on their help page (which seems to be out of sync with the pricing plan on their main page) seems to imply that special fonts and font colors are only included on their second tier, but even that doesn't tell me if code syntax highlighting is possible or not, and/or easy or not.
