Starscream's Ghost | Transformers: Generation 1 | Season 3 | E09 | Hasbro Pulse
Octane, a Decepticon traitor, is on the run and the Decepticons are pursuing him across the galaxy. Despite Sandstorm's help, there is little protection that the Autobots can actually offer him. Then, Octane takes refuge in some kind of ancient Decepticon crypt on Cybertron, where he encounters the vengeful ghost of his former comrade, Starscream, who is scheming to seek his revenge against Galvatron for destroying him.

This scene was very heartwarming; Octane and Starscream having fun again after years, and... man, do they fear Galvatron a lot and they had to make sure they couldn't be seen by the tyrannical madbot.

This episode was originally supposed to follow up on what became of Blitzwing after being kicked out in Five Faces of Darkness, but because of Hasbro wanting to push new toys, his role went to Octane.
And Sandstorm's role was originally occupied by Springer.
Ah, that makes more sense.
Then how would "Thief In The Night" work, since this is the follow-up episode of this unofficial multi-part arc?
@@StarFighters76 - Octane’s entire mini-arc in Thief in the Night and Starscream’s Ghost was originally meant for Blitzwing. After all, it’s about Decepticon Triple Changer who strikes out on his own and is hunted by the other ‘Cons, and the arc was already set up in Five Faces of Darkness. But Hasbro wanting to focus on new toys had the scripts rewritten to focus on Octane and provide some last minute explanation in Thief in the Night as to why he’s on the run, leaving Blitzwing’s fate unresolved.
Yeah. I wondered about what happened to Blitzwing. So that's what happened.

Starscream as Cyclonus: "Whatever would we do without a powerful intellectual like you along?"

I'm going to be honest, I'm actually surprised that Starscream made it to the 1986 movie before he died considering how many times he's tried to overthrow Megatron in Seasons 1 and 2
And then the 'Animated' cartoon decides to just turn him into a 'Kenny' and kill him multiple times before finally offing him for good. Being Starscream is suffering to a large extent, and a large amount of it being your own fault.
Megatron made Starscream sub commander for a few reasons. To know his mind and his intentions to keep an eye on him. Starscream was a good number 2 and leader of the skeekers also. And good at his job. But he moves to fast. Don't forget in transformers the 1986 movie. Starscream wanted to attack the autobot moon bases first. But Megatron was right in attacking autobotcity from within. He surprised an attack on the autobot shuttle and killed the crew. Outnumbering them. He wanted to use the shuttle as a trojanhorse.That way the autobot warning alerts wouldn't go off. He want to cripple them and destroy their energy supply. That is the difference in their planning. Megatron is master strategist he nearly destroy Autobot city. Using the Autobots shuttle as a trojan horse when trying to cripple the Autobots energon supply. Starscream would rush to fast to move at times. Having a plan is a good thing. But before you move think first. Starscream did beat Megatron once when he created the combaticons.
In the original series he did take command from Megatron for all but a few seconds before the stuntacons interfered.

This is was one of my favourite episodes in season 3. Starscream is my favourite Decepticon. It was so good to see him back from the dead.
I liked this episode as well, but enjoyed even more Ghost in the Machine (the sequel of this one).
He stands out from the rest. It gives a extra layer to the stories.
Same, my OG homie got me into this show because I'm renting the down stairs suite from him an his wife, an hang out in their living room a lot after I'm off work an smoke joints, an he's always watching his 80's cartoons (I'm from 1992) an tbh I never thought it was a good series until we rewatched season 1 an I took in the character an the dialogue (often just sat on my phone first few times he would marathon episodes from first 4 seasons). Man, without a doubt, Starscream got my attention first of any character. I still lose it in hysterics at the "Replace Me? Never!!!" "Devastator!!!!" "I Beg of You!!!" lines. And tbh even doe he a schemer an weakling, he always showed up for the action an never backed down (unless he seen opportunity for it to lead to him become leader lololol)

Some of these episodes are really well written. The dialogue, the voice acting. You had some writers on this show who must've really done their homework reading the sci classics-- Asimov, Welles etc.

This episode was originally going to be written for Blitzwing, but got replaced by Octane, Blitzwing would have made more since because he was a bigger traitor since he was trying to make peace with the Autobots, Octane just came out of nowhere

True, but they did set this episode up in an earlier episode when Octane betrayed Galvatron by pimpin Trypticon to that African warlord in exchange for Super Energon. Then he lied about it when he got caught and got kicked out of the Decepticons.

This episode and the follow up was a nice reminder of how much Starscream was missed on the show, even though he came back as a ghost, it was so much fun to watch him not only take over the body of some of his fellow Decepticons but to cause so much trouble within their ranks and listening to him and Galvatron argue with each other just felt like old times
Yeah, this series is boring without him. He is one of the mist important characters.
I find it fitting Screamer possessed Cyclonus. He was the anti-Starscream. Loyal and led as second-in-command. To Starscream’s disloyalty in the same position.
Scourge and the Sweeps are much like the Seekers too.
At 1:51 we can see how arcee before joining the autobots had other jobs.

It took Starscream dying and coming back as a ghost to realise that the best way of destroying Megatron or Galvatron was to team up with the Autobots. Then again Rodimus Prime didn't have the same attachment to Galvatron that Optimus Prime had with Megatron, so maybe Starscream knew that Optimus wouldn't have helped him. 🤔
The fact that Octane got away with everything he did and Galvatron didn't destroy him is still amazing to me.
Hes just lucky considering the fact that galvatron's current state of mind is unpredictable

@@Soundwave32791 Voice actor Scatman Crothers (Jazz) died in September 1986. Voice actor Casey Kasem (Cliffjumper) quit the show after the offensive Arab stereotypes in Carbombya in the episodes Aerial Assault, Five Faces of Darkness Part 1, Thief in the Night.
Most of the entire 85 toyline also are alive, because they weren't seen in the movie at all. Red Alert, Grapple, Inferno, Tracks, Smokescreen, Hoist, Skids.. interesting that you never saw any of them after season 2. Funnily enough though, it was when they re-ran War Dawn with the season 3 intro that had me missing the original lineup as well, and really couldn't stand to watch anything season 3 or 4. So most of my TF watching doesn't extend past the movie, with very few exceptions.
At least Thundercracker came back as Scourge.

Tripple changers are everywhere now. I remember when it was a big special thing.
Starscream was the one Decepticon jet I searched for high and low and never found as a kid. I remember my dad taking me to every toy store in Knoxville, TN at the time including two different Toys-R-Us and Kay-bee Toys and I finally found Megatron but no Prime or Starscream! After all that searching of toy stores Kroger of all places is where I finally obtained my Optimus Prime. Of all the Transformers Starscream was the one I really wanted but never found and never got!
Buy it now as an adult!
Starscream was the first one I got from Generation 2 since I never got him in the original run. He's in a box somewhere along with the Constructicons and Combaticons. Loved how Generation 2 allowed me to get the Transformers I missed the first time around.

Lol same. But since TF aired in 84, I was too young to be able to actually get it. I became aware of TF during the 3rd season run as I was maybe about 5 or 6? So by that time the first 2 seasons already came and went, hence the toy was beyond gone off shelves. If you 42/43 now, we were born in that weird gap where TF had maybe 1 more year left before being cancelled. But the fist two seasons were being re-ran so it made u want toys that didn’t exist anymore.
My bet: they noticed ratings were in the toilet, so they put in Starscream to give them a little more edge
I just thought of something; Starscream should have possessed Galvatron. I would have liked to see them argue with each other while both entities inhabit the same body. Starscream be like "At last! I have a new body!" And Galvatron be "GET OUT OF ME!"

Love Frank Welker. He voiced so many cartoon characters of my childhood. But I didn’t like how he gave Galvatron a loud, whiny voice. All he had to do was do the same voice as Megatron but try to LOWER the voice. Leonard Nimoy’s Galvatron had a deeper voice than Megatron.

This is just another example of the inconsistency and retconning that was the norm with this series, especially in season 3. Blitzwing was the one actually banished from the Decepticon faction. This was supposed to be Blitzwing.

the writers definately realised too late that offing Prime and Starscream was a mistake. Personally Megatron could have retained his old body and still got souped up but thats just me

I really like Season 3 because of how unique it is and how it tackles some very interesting and deeper plots. Not to mention it has a darker tone too. Too bad the animation was often really awful.

Also they had 1 week for 1 episode. Imagine the pressure on the animators. I wouldnt wanna work there.
