I'm scared of the game ending up being a carebear themepark. It should be focused on an EvE-style challenge. If they chose to go the ED route, they will die like ED. Leave the exploration to No Mans Sky. Make it a possibility in SC, but not a focus. Let's hope 3.5 changes things. Good video Malagos.
Appreciate you taking the time to express your opinions about the state of Star Citizen! I definitely don't see eye to eye with you on every point but I think it is important we share our thoughts about the game with each other and CIG as long as it opens up a positive dialog, which I feel like your video does.
I can definitely understand what you mean, and share the concern - the SC community has never been as dead as it has been since 3.0 and I do think that much of that is due to CIG's neglect of the combat balance and systems (as well as low frame-rate issues), combined with much of the anti-PvP mindset that exists in the SC community atm. So many folks that act irrationally terrified of PvP, even though PvP was what kept much of the game community alive and active prior to 3.0 and it's issues with combat balance. I don't fear that CIG will not make SC good eventually, but I do fear that if they do not address certain critical issues - even more folks will become disgruntled with the game and / or give up; which I don't think many would want that.
One of the biggest thing that has been decimated with recent updates have been the game play loops many of us have been playing for years, AC / SM and Even the PU had a fairly decent combat community that would jump on every night and do battle. Now beyond the rudimentary trading we have in the PU, SM/ AC and the PU feel empty and lifeless. It quite interesting the i say that, YES content keeps coming out and NO one will say CIG haven't made progress, but to quote CR's words "we are looking going back and working on the base game play" features that have not been completed. Get the basics right before rolling out more and more half baked features.
The game is doomed for combat. It has been for over two and half years. It can’t be fixed. The SINGULAR guy that created how everything operates doesn’t work on it anymore. We got a junior programmer cast off from ED instead. It can only be RESOLVED by one person & it simply will never happen.
Flying and combat in this game has been shit since the start. I remember when AC launched in 2014, people commented on the same combat core design problems that still exists now. CIG has no idea wtf they are doing with combat or flight mechanics, you'l see in the end. Refund Squadron over and out.
I used to stream SC PU PvP (griefing/piracy or whatever the carebears call it these days) on twitch pretty much everyday and I would love to again. Looked today and there was literally 3 live streams, one of those was the radio station to :\. Sad to see our once thriving community not playing/testing the game right now. Nice vid o7
It still is a very small group that can afford to get anything above 30 fps. Add that to the changes that are crapping combat (the only activity that is more rewarding) and.. well, we have to wait next 3.x. :(
Is there any chance that you return to tell us what you think about SC now or in the future? I mean 4 years have passed and most of your criticism in this video is still valid, but I'd love to see if anything changed from your perspective.
100% agree with you that combat will be the main gameplay of Star Citizen. The biggest end game content I can see are orgs fighting over territory but for that to happen players do have to be able to influence some to a degree. The people who keep saying they don’t want large orgs to have an lasting impact don’t realize that is what will keep the game alive. Though I do lose this question: Supposedly orgs will be fighting over resources which are forms of money in the game. But why should orgs care about having the most money to begin with? Do they need it for operating costs? What will they actually be doing with the money for players to care to acquire more, especially when someone’s already gotten all the ships, gear, reputation, etc they’ll ever want? These are huge important questions that need to be answered. One last thing Malogos, you should put background music in these videos. Helps to fill the silence when you stop speaking and makes the video easier to listen to.
Might be due to people playing mainly in the PU now. Once they bring in ground AI you probably will see even less in the FPS/Dogfight mod. Also do not think anything is "dead" people have moved on to things better than FPS module. They've become pirates in the PU, they've become protectors in the PU they have moved on to deeper things than simple PEW PEW reset, Pew pew again. Where you can setup beacons now as a player has added a mechanic that others are enjoying, with the drug lab and SPK they do FPS and Dog fights in these and of course helping each other in the PU with rescues rather than in the limited FPS/Dog fight only modules they've taken to a richer option for now.
I have to disagree with that. Once combat is fixed you will see a lot of the competitive players flood back. at the end of the day AI give 0 challenge.
Yeah, I agree. I love seeing these new features online, but it seems meaningless without having the core of the game, combat, working. Also 100% feature complete. service beacons don't seem feature complete, a lot of the PU missions still have a lot of bugs and not feature complete. All that would be fine... if there was combat, either player vs AI, or Player vs Player. It was amazing in 2.6 and prior to get a squad together and either go hunting, or challenge other various people in PU. It was player Content, and though netcode, and other various issues made it hard to stomach sometimes.. it was fun and doable. Now it just seems like a large mess. TL:DR fix the core mechanics of combat please. Player driven content from combat.
People should stop playing. I stopped trying to play a long time ago. The problem is that they're releasing these features on a drip-feed, people consume them and get bored, then wait for the next thing. If they just waited until the game was built properly with finalized features, they'd enjoy it a lot more.
flight of combat lol that is all you care about. most people are now in the PU. But hey after 2.6 is sucked the fm. before that i would say it is beter.
yeah, i won't refund the entire game because they will come out with it eventually, but i'm just tired and frustrated and will try and seek refunds for the majority of my ships. they can't even get basic flight combat down. i'm sure it's not easy but not too long ago there were two people who were working on flight mechanics who publicly said, on one of the CIG youtube shows, they don't like doing it. it definitely shows.
Brother your denial that SC is being designed as a p2w Mirco transaction hellscape is troubling. Ya need to step back from your emotional attachment from the game and take a hard critical look. Ya think a company finds out there community is willing to pay ungodly amounts of money for a leg up or short cuts in there game they aren’t gunna design there game to cater to that audience and and maximize profits? People don’t donate money to sc. they buy advantages. Think anyone is gunna drop 27k just because they wanna support the game with nothing attached to it? The path the community has paved by the means of funding this game have sealed its fate. It’s gunna be a game that gets you financially and thus emotionally invested in it and this company WILL exploit this now and certainly after a official launch. You will always have the option to buy those incredibly priced ships and if you try to get it in game they will certainly put a insanely crazy grind wall. Welcome to SC 2018 and beyond.
I think people are overstating the importance of combat in sc. This is going to be largely an industry game. For a couple reasons. Exploration was the number 1 thing most people want in a.c. that's why so much hype is around the 's carrack. 2 perma death is a thing so more people are going to be reluctant to PvP. When risking instant perma death. Also a.c. isn't dead most of the people are on oh. Just more to do and PvP has purpose unlike a.c. and sm
listen to how unhinged the bootlickers are. They have a bag so they resort to racists slurs personal attacks it's all very telling lol Bootlicker shill we're laughing at you
Nobody needs to pay real money for anything beyond the base game package, for as low as USD$45 currently. There are no monthly costs involved at all. With that base game package, you can play in the persistent universe as much as you want. Once the game is released, you will only be able to buy ships with in-game currency, and you'll be able to buy each and every ship in the game (as long as it is player-flyable at all... some alien ships require modifications to accommodate humans, like the Glaive). Also, how would bad flight combat mechanics affect Star Marine's play numbers? Are you sure you're not mistaking low player counts in AC & SM with interest in playing the PTU where CiG is obviously looking for the most help with testing?
For 4 hrs a day, every day, competitive combat, a lot of friends and fun... #DEAD

Kidding me? AC has been broken/glitchy since the first release, and it only got worse over time.
Well said.

do you feel optimistic about gimbal mouse having a competitive future at all?

combat was fun for a while, sure some bugs existed, and some fine tuning was needed, but now its just not even playable or fun.

Hoping that the SC flight model gets a revamp so i can watch your stream for some SC PvP :) AC revival sounds great too
Yea man will be right on it when its all sorted, I should get to work uploading some videos tbh, tons of footage saved since 2.5
Is there any chance that you return to tell us what you think about SC now or in the future?
I mean 4 years have passed and most of your criticism in this video is still valid, but I'd love to see if anything changed from your perspective.
I haven't played in years. Playing daily became increasingly frustrating and painful. Maybe I'll peek in after this next patch.
Honestly, I think they should revert the flight back to how it was in 2.6.3.
That is actually impossible at this point not with how systems will affect flight and the like.

1 year and a half later combat has became even worse lul
Templar was right about Star Citizen.
Oh wait, that was Derek Smart.
who is templar even?
the myth and legend himself

Molexer good luck getting that refund now :(
too late. Should of refunded 2 years ago. Only the stupid money is left in and its not going anywhere.

Why are you talking to yourself.
Upwards of a dozen players! Really pushing the boundaries of MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER! Stop saving PC gaming so hard!

Jon Weir no way will SC take away buying ships with cash after release. You’re blind AF if you think that.
If you are going to make a 20min video. At least take the time to fix you mic.
Please stop fumbling around with your microphone it's super distracting and annoying.
Speak up man.
