The sound that you could hear without the bikes even being in sight must have been such a big part of the atmosphere in the 1960s.

Interesting that McGuiness takes the lead position in all the videos on here Was it like that for the whole lap? I'd have thought he might have let the older man 'go first'.
But then again maybe he thought "I'm staying in front. I don't want him getting away from me!" 😁
If it wasn't for Ago's chain failure, he would have won...Mike said so himself.
There's always a measure of luck involved, all ways. But should it even have been a contest with the problems Mike was having?

Mike was pretty much handicapped with his throttle falling off.

@@ColdSmokes I once read a description of Mike's race career (I think it was in the old 'On Two Wheels' magazine, a year or two before his 1978 comeback) and one phrase has always stuck in my mind: "From being the millionaire's son who had everything he became the battler against adversity". Love the guy.

Hailwood's Honda was called "The Cannon." Had a very annoying high-speed handling chatter, that made spectators fly-away from certain parts of the track when Hailwood approached.
