*I well remember the Race of the Year at Mallory Park September 1964, and long after the race had finished and the crowds had gone, asking a Marshall if I could drive my car (Citroen DS19) around the circuit, he said better ask Mike (Hailwood) and directed me to him. I asked Mike, who I had briefly met a number of times before, and he said of course you can, and told the Marshall to let me through the top gate (Near Hairpin) - He said come back after we are having a bit of a Party with Chris Barber later. Did two/three laps and then went back. Mike appeared genuinely pleased to see me again and asked how I got on. Had a good laugh together as we found had a lot of common interests (3 years older than me and born on the same date 2nd April) and had been to the Belgian Grand Prix the previous year in my Morris Minor 1000. Stayed until late with many of the riders and "Chris Barber & his Jazzmen" playing. Imagine that today, the pits were open and you didn't need a fancy pass to get in. I was very keen on Jazz Bands, and in fact had an Acker Bilk Beard at the time, and was often mistaken for him ! (Maybe Mike thought I was "Acker") Still got the Program Price 2/6p and signed by many riders then including Phil Read, Jim Redman, Mike Duff, Bill Ivy etc. Incidentally Mike Won the race on the MV Agusta and was £1000 richer. Huge amount in those days. So no wonder he was happy. He held the 350cc Lap Record from 62-64 at 84.93 mph and the 500cc Lap record at 53 seconds 91.70 mph in 1962*
The late, great Bob McIntyre was the first to lap at over 100 mph on the Gilera in 1957. I think the guy narrating could have been Murray's dad, Graham Walker who used to commentate from the grandstand; Murray I think was based at the Creg. During the early 1960's I was at school during the day so my mother used to record the radio commentaries for me to play back in the evening. I still have the 1961 250 TT on a tape reel. It was hoped that Bob would be the first to lap at over 100 mph on a 250 but he broke down on the last lap having done 99.59ish. Happy days!
I first saw this movie when I was 27 and fell instantly in love with IOM TT races and motorcycling in general. I'm 48 years old and it really brings bacl memories. Those early riders were a hardy bunch. They rode without rear suspensions.
God bless you! MORE! Blown BMW 500 Rennsport, IOM TT 1939, does first 90mph lap... Velocette KTT introduces aviation's air oil spring shocks on a swinging rear arm. Norton Road Holder Fork, 1949.... Many more firsts 1930 - 1977
I couldn't imagine going back to the 1920's with present bike and all technology we had now, dragging knee on the old TT haha, would be a hilarious moment 😆
I'd bet dollars to pesos that's Murray Walker's dad narrating(he announced the radio coverage there). Exactly the same accent and almost the same voice.
It would be REALLY good if some one on the internet could do a list of the winning motorcycle brands through out the time of the Isle of Man TT. I can not find one any where. It's ok to know who won the race and the year BUT what motorcycle was used to win on. This video shows some of the winning motorcycles and was an enjoyable watch. Average speed in 1961 of over 100 mph.
And I bet not one rider died from high speed accidents back then. The race should of been restricted to under 100cc engines all the way from back then to now and over 200 lives would of been saved but no not possible, we must allow bikes of any size go at whatever speed regardless if the course is nothing less than a DEATH trap at those speeds. Stupid people setting up race courses for "Stupid Racers" who really care less if they live or die!. Pretty damn sad one must say.

How wonderful to hear the wonderful voice of Murray Walker again. He was always a superb commentator and we shall never see his like again.

My father always spoke of Stanley Woods. Great video. They should see it now.
Man I love the way they look just the coolest thing those motorcycles are so simple yet so difficult to ride just f****** cool
Fantastic video. How about a part 2 for the next 50 years? I really want to see the 2 stroke east German bikes logging it around the track.
Luke LMAO
Check out the Yamaha and Suzuki copies. Still to this day two strokes are descendants of Walter Kaaden's brainchild.
Amazing footage, Ballaugh Bridge wow.

Not his Dad. It's Murray Walker narrating.
I think it is Murray himself
Fantastic Thank You!!
Great video!
J'adore; merci pour le partage.
これは貴重な映像資料(´ω`)。
マイクヘイルウッドの姿を初めて拝見しました。AJS、ノートン、ヴィンセント錚々たるメーカーの歴史も素晴らしいですね。50年代には既にジャンプしていたんですねー。
A f1 legend narrating this
When you have heard a Scott Squirrel you never forget it. Could almost smell the Castrol R.
chris Ball It’s just beautiful
The famous scott yowl. No other 2stroke sounds similar
Stanley's v twin Husky is nice.
Brilliant :)
I would love to hear the sound of these bikes as well as the video.

Richard Mann Not me, could always start my ES2 and Domi, also my DBD34 Gold Star. It’s all about good mechanics and procedure.
Love the helmets
So back when TT racing isn't as deadly as we have now
Respect for tt everything❤❤❤
Muy pero muy buen video..casi lloro..
Claro que si !
Why the comic music with the early films?
12 people on the Isle of Man don't like this video. I'm guessing at least eight of them are tax evading rich snotts.
Bipins, What has caused you such insecurity in your intelligence and sexuality?
What would these people think of the race today ? !
In a little over a hundred years the TT has killed 234 men.
Left out 1911, first year on the present course. Indian 1,2 3.
Cool
ดี
Sounds like a young Murray Walker
Alan Dow it is him!
thought that i knew he was into his bikes
Dios mio que pelicula de deporte tan linda
Just a jacket and just a helmet covering your head until ears and blistering speed :/ they were devils
I think they should change the rules back again, and allow riders to pedal their bikes
Murray walker also started out motorbike racing!
2050 flying machines..
So when was the entirity of the track paved?
Yep.
you forgot to mention Moto Guzzi in this video
Why is old footage always so fast
And black and white. When did people start seeing in colour?

You stick with your stamp collecting and don’t worry about TT riders.
And you would lose your bet! The first death was in 1911.
