@@Mixedmakeup would you apply sunscreen between like 6pm-8pm in the summer when it’s still light out but the UV index is 0? My derm said no but I’m low key scared
T S: It depends on where you are and the environment. Look up "How to use the UV index" by the Government of Canada. For instance, "fresh white snow can reflect over 80% of the UV from the sun, meaning you are receiving almost twice as much UV" even when the UV index is 0-2.
Can we have the “best sunscreens under makeup” version? I find that my makeup routine is right after my morning skincare. Also how to use primers on top of sunscreen without compromising the protection would be really helpful. :)
I’m commenting incase anyone else has any suggestions for this questions (this has been my top question when it comes to primer and sunscreen at the same time).
NATURIUM - Peptide Moisturizer is insanely good. My skin loves it and since switching most of my skincare to Naturium, I'm noticing a big difference in texture and so are other people.
I totally agree with applying moisturizer instead of primer. Better yet, if both prods are applied to prep and protect the skin. My skin is combo/dry but since I discovered that my makeup looks flawless and is long lasting with moisturizer and primer on specific areas (for blurring pores, matte primer for t zone, etc), it is what I do every single day.
Ooo I love Chantecaille and Laniege idc that some say its too bougie they are beautiful brands and also the rose is my fave, its nice feeling a lil lux
I’m a die hard fan of your videos. It naturally follows that I would try your products. I purchased Naturium Dew Glo SPF 50 daily moisturizing sunscreen and it pilled, in fact rolled horribly under makeup. I tried using it several different ways and it pilled aggressively no matter how I used it. Undaunted I picked up Naturium Multi Peptide Moisturizer Plus and I received the same aggressive pilling. Both products still sit on my dressing table and make me feel bad about myself! Has anyone else experienced intense pilling from Naturium products?
I have dry skin and love SkinFix gel moisturizer. It’s supposed to be for oily skin but my kinda dry skin loves it. It has a great ingredients list and wears well under makeup. There’s also a Korean brand I love called B5 that wears well under makeup and feels great on the skin. I don’t like products with shea butter. Thanks for the review.
I like all the products that Susan mentioned. I've heard good thing about the Bobbi Brown moisturizer. There's an eye base primer by Bobbi Brown as well.
I love all your videos! Your content is always educating and you have a lovely personality!! My only complain is that you usually recommend very expensive products , it's in most of your videos I wish you also recommend budget friendly products , as in makeup , body care , face products etc... I LOVE your brand ! That is the only amazing affordable brand you offer 😂🥰❤️ , but all in all, thank you for your lovely videos Susan, Rana
I am surprised the Charlotte Tilbury Magic Cream, and Lait Crème Concentré didn't make this list. Those are my absolute favorites for under makeup. I am like Susan and prefer cream to primer.
The moisturizer you use as a primer, do u add it on top of sunscreen then? Like, serum, moisturizer, sunscreen, again moisturizer, then makeup? Wouldn't that affect the sunscreen beneath? Of if you say wear under sunscreen, wouldn't the sunscreen alter the 'silkiness' of the moisturizer? In which case sunscreens that can double up as primer is better, or separate primers themselves. Also, moisturizer is not a good replacement to primer if the type you use is pore blurring or mattifying I think. Maybe moisturizers with silicones may be a good replacement?
Moisturizer is always before sunscreen! Some sunscreens can be the primer in that case or a lot of the moisturizers I recommended in this list have the same types of silicones and powders that primers have.
I had the same question 😭 I guess this would only work for a night out if you’re not wearing an spf☹️ otherwise we would need this same video but with sunscreens that can double as a primer!
@@Mixedmakeup wouldn't the sunscreen alter or dilute the primer like qualities of the moisturizer? Because, as I understand primers (and I'll admit to limited knowledge here because I don't like moisturising primers because I'm already oily and they feel like they disturb the SPF, so the only ones I've tried are like the mostly silicone ones), they may *incidentally* have some skincare benefits but essentially they're this film-forming, smoothing product to even the ground for makeup. So when I use them at all, I don't need to 'rub' them in like moisturizer, almost pat it on or spread thinly. With moisturizer as primer, the main qn then, based on ur answer is: won't the sunscreen applied on top affect the finish of the moisturizer? Or would you recommend some logic of pairing them? That's why I thought maybe sunscreen primers make more sense, like combining the last step of skincare with the first step of makeup
these are great! I have also been using a moisturizer under my makeup. I have dry skin and it made a huge difference with how my makeup looks. I use CeraVe moisturizing cream it is very similar to the first one you showed and recommended by dermatologists. it is amazing i use it for day time and also night time but i always do the moisturizer and sunscreen last before my makeup. this has helped me tremendously and has repaired my skin barrier.
Penina Lipkin, if your skin is dry, you may want to use the slugging technique: Slugging is a simple practice that requires "applying an occlusive like petrolatum to the face before bedtime" (over your moisturizer-to keep the moisturizer in).
This is where skincare gets confusing. I love this , but if you are using your moisturizer as your makeup primer when do you put your sunscreen on….before the moisturizer?
@@melake8 yea that’s what I always do, but I feel like it defeats the purpose of that moisturizer feel under makeup . It’s not the true texture if you apply sunscreen on top.
I find they’re both a little too thick and slippery for makeup. Makeup artists often have to deal with people they have never met before and that might not take care of their skin at all. If their skin is really dry, then a thick moisturizer like one of those might work well. If you are like me with a solid skincare routine, chances are those heavy moisturizers will be too slippery for your makeup.

@@Mixedmakeup Thank you so much for your response. Hugs and kisses from Romania!
Ughhh hope any of this works for me because I use the first aid beauty cream and works great but when I mixed with some primera my make up separates in my nose so bad 🥵
Can you do best sunscreens under makeup? I’ve gone through several sunscreens that just clump up or texturize my skin under makeup. Even with a nice moisturizer that I know works, the wrong sunscreen over it can just mess it all up.
Susan, would you please do a video on body sunscreens that don’t ruin your clothes? It can feel impossible to wear cute clothes (like summery dresses, sweaters with cutouts, basically anything that’s not a long sleeve crewneck) without ruining them with sunscreen stains! Or spending $$$ on dry cleaning 🥴
KZ: Let the sunscreen soak in for 30 minutes before you put on your desired clothing. Sunscreen stains are a result of the chemical reaction that takes place when hard water comes into contact with sunscreens containing avobenzone. Using sunscreens without it, like Blue Lizard Australian Sunscreen, can avoid the issue altogether. The severity of these rust stains not only depends on the mineral profile of your water supply, but also on the fiber content of the garment, where synthetics are more prone to retaining the stain than natural fibers, like cotton. If you live in a hard water area, then looks at the list of ingredients before buying sunscreen, and avoid those containing avobenzone.
I use the Naturium multi pepetide moisturizer and it honestly works well under makeup. 👍🏽 I have oily combination skin, so it’s hard to find ones that work well with my dry and oily skin.
I love Embryolisse but find it too thick under makeup for people with good skincare routines. It was a great savior for people back when they have dry, cracky skin, but now we know better. Haha
What about spf?
If you need a base for an evening some would rather not opt for spf
In the day, your SPF goes on after moisturizer and can also have priming effects. At evening/night, I wouldn’t worry about SPF.
