      And can we please include info on how to make it last if you have oily eyelids? Genuinely the most difficult because the oils seep through during the day and not only ruin the eyeshadow but also cause even waterproof mascara to smudge

      @@herbie13 I managed to find 1 primer that worked ok (but not amazing) but it's been discontinued so now that's even worse. I totally understand having a 'tacky base' for eyeshadow to stick to, but they just don't keep the oils at bay long enough. It's almost like I need a mattifying base for the oil and a sticky base over that for the eyeshadow

      Imma preface this by saying that *I knowwww* this is terrible advice as it's bad for skin and it's really bad if you breathe it in... BUT I learnt this trick from my performance days and still use it for events where my makeup has to last: HAIRSPRAY YOUR FACE AT THE END. Kept my wedding makeup flawless for 17 hours. Also been to festivals in the middle of (Australian) summer: even through sweat and grime, makeup was perfect.

    I'm in absolute agreement on the skin prep. It makes a HUGE difference. I love Neutrogena hydro gel water gel moisturizer. It works so great under makeup and doesn't pill. I go in with Milk Hydro grip primer after to get my skin is sticky so it holds my makeup in place.

    • @gracew4194
      @gracew4194 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@carolann6158 I think it would be good on dry skin if let your moisturizer sink in for a while then use the primer. I just use a really small amount in my T zone where my makeup tends to break up first. The game-changer for my oily skin was definately SERUMS! They are not as heavy as creams and absorb somewhat easier also. I usually go for a serum more water-based instead of oil based, even looking for as little amount of oil as I can but looking for it to have other moisturizing ingredients. For example, what I currently use as a fave for skin prep is a hyaluronic acid serum :)

  • @hungrylikealoup

    Primers have never seemed to do for me what they do for other people. I have oily/combo skin and it's taken years to curate a skincare routine that works for me. I feel so validated for using my moisturizer like a primer for the times when I do use makeup. The only primer I've tried that's ever sort of worked is the Elf Mint Melt Primer (Which they unfortunately don't make anymore). I'm a cosplayer so when I do cosplay makeup for conventions, I need that staying power, and I love the trick of setting your liquid/cream makeup with a setting spray before putting on powder!

      I've got combo/oily skin that gets extra oily when I wear makeup. I've found that really nailing your skincare with moisturizers and serums that are not too moisturizing is key! I'm definitely of the 'moisturizer as primer' camp. Also, using a really oil-controlling powder for your oiliest areas (T-zone, cheek pores, etc.) and more of a regular face powder for less oily areas, in my experience, helps everything look less patchy and caked.

    Also set makeup before applying makeup spray to the face after skin care and priming ensures makeup lasts you never spray after makeup because it reactivates the makeup mainly the powders and what liquids you’ve set
    Which is why makeup breaks down fast because you’ve put something wet on face after it’s set
    Putting it on before makeup ensures longevity and no creasing

    I used a Japanese brand called Fancl. I use their sunblock and my foundation stays all day. It is summer and humid where I live, so I know it really works. I use toner , water based moisturizer, followed by the Fancl sunblock , then liquid foundation.

    If any of you have problem with foundation lasting in one specific area, e.g. nose or chin, try Nyx glitter primer or Inglot duraline as the base, it works like charm for me! But of course this is not a solution for the whole face

    Alex! Could you do a recommended base routine for festival makeup? I want my makeup to stick but run into the issues of sweating and dirt getting on my face. Maybe reapplication has to be involved somehow??
