  • Much like an x-ray allows doctors to see past the surface to the skeleton of a human, a sound Critical Reasoning strategy can take you past the skin-deep subject matter that so often makes these questions difficult, and attack each question surgically by focusing on the way that all questions are structured.
Join Brian Galvin, Veritas Prep's Director of Academic Programs, as he teaches you how to solve even the most complex Critical Reasoning questions.

I can’t appreciate this video more as the “men/dog strategy” helps me so much to think before referring the options which used to mislead me. Thanks again for sharing the strategy!

One word this was awesome and covers most of the Cr concepts on GMAT, or at least lays the fundamental to the the GMAT CR questions

loved the video. Does this technique also work for inference, must be true and draw the conclusion type questions?

Hi Brian, I didn't quite understand how did you substitute 'not significantly higher' with 'almost equal'. Well it can still be 'higher' and not 'significantly higher'.

in the third question, the gap that popped in my mind was that the percentage arrested is not equal to the effectiveness of programs
    isn't this a gap??

    So the 2nd question's answer is ?

  • @PetrFrolkin

I chose C on the 2nd ? because it makes those bones > 2 million years old. Am I wrong?

  • @animeshkaran5659

in the 2nd question i eliminated ans (C) because it does not agrees with the premises
because the premises says fossils were found and C says it does not.
    was that a fair elimination????

Do you know what is the real problem with critical reasoning?
in 3:00 the role is 2 facts and valid conclusion, right?
Just quick note, this line of logic, despite its legitimacy to our minds, it has a flaw and was criticised by sophists but why?
In this example the 2 facts given are very agreeable by all of us. all men are blah, John is a man, then john is a blah.
But what is one is fact and the other is not too sure fact? or what define facts.. to clarify take this example:
In my country, Ghost (genie) can live inside us. this is considered to be a fact in many muslim countries (i don't believe it tho) once a genie inside you, he can control your behavior.
    John is a man
all men can be controlled by genie
so, John can be dominated by genie
    you see my point?
so the question is how can we identify a fact?
that's the problem because no one knows every fact out there, or how can make sure this is a fact or has a measure to ensure that. In the GMAT, one way or another, you might face the same issue without knowing how to address the key to it. is this a fact to draw a conclusion from it?

You must think about your surroundings and the environment you're in. The GMAT a test that is trying to eliminate all outside "noise" that could interfere with the subject being tested to get accurate results. The real world is too complex to "test" so you are given a scenario and you must make a decision about this scenario based on the information given and general reasoning. This scenario is not meant to be proven right or wrong. The scenario is meant to be a fork in the road with five paths of which you must take the best one. Good Luck!
