I have to say...I love my La Mer. My skin has never felt better. I tried this brand in my early 30's..hated it! Tried it again in my 40's and it was a game changer! I think this line is great for mature skin. I use their moisturizer, soft cream under foundation and eye creme and the sunscreen SPF 50 is great! I have irish-german skin, live in the south and I have not burned or gotten pink with it on. The line works for me...

When I was living in Chicago, my aesthetician used to work at the Four Seasons on Michigan Ave. The clientele could easily afford to use all La Mer skincare. So I asked her, "Does La Mer REALLY provide noticable changes in the skin."
Without hesitation, she said "no." There was no noticable difference between her clients that used La Mer versus other skincare lines.

Great info! I used Estee Lauder for years. Got trapped into believing good skincare had to cost a fortune. I started listening to you about 4 months ago. I took your advice and switched to Cerave, started Tretanoin, used sunscreen daily, and ditched all fragrance. My skin is better than it's ever been. Turns out the expensive skincare must have been inflammatory, just like you said, because within 2 weeks of stopping it all, redness and bumps went away. I can't thank you enough.

Lastly, Whole Foods has many great skincare products that are natural and not inflammatory. I received a. sample of Orchidee by Guerlain- nothing but fragrance. Nothing special- except the price $475 Canadian. What a joke!!!

I was fortunate enough to learn about 30 years ago how harmful fragrance is in skin care and makeup, and stopped using fragranced products on my face. I also use unscented products on my body, with the exception of shampoo and conditioner. I'm using up the fragranced shampoo and conditioner that I have and will transition to unscented when they're used up.
Unfortunately, I haven't been able to find a satisfactory unscented mousse and hair spray. I'm using a hair spray labeled unscented, but it isn't.

Super happy for this video! There is just no way I would ever spend money on La Mer, there are thousands of better cheaper options out there. If you’re spending $300+ on a face cream just put that towards some Botox or Retin A!

Botox? I would rather shell out $1000 for a jar of cream than put a neurotoxin in my face. More like jab my skull that protects my brain with a neurotoxin. There is NO long term studies on Botox, just wait another 10 years and they will find it's just as deadly as breast implants.

It's so sad that people have no idea how harmful fragrance, SD alcohol, and witch hazel are in skin care and makeup. I'm also a long term Paula's Choice product, and I've been satisfied with most of the products. There have been a couple that didn't work well for me, but that's just how it is. Very few things work for everybody.
I use a few non Paula's Choice products, specifically Aquaphor, Vanicream, and the fragrance free version of Neutrogena Norwegian Formula hand cream.

Whether la mer is a 'scam' or not...absolutely nothing looks/feels/makes my skin as healthy as the la mer matte lotion. I've listened to my own dermatologists (which also believe it's a scam and recommend brands like cerave) and have spent even more money on other products to replace the la mer matte lotion but absolutely nothing compared.
No other cream moisturised and also kept oil at bay all day and this is the only cream that:
    - reduced my cystic acne
    - stopped new pimples for forming (not one pimple for 2 years)
    - felt completely invisible on the skin
    - was perfect under make up
Scam or not, it worked for me. Listen yo your skin, it'll tell you what it needs - be it cerave or la mer. And my skin is screaming 'take my money and do not try another cream'

La Mer has been known to be a hustle for decades.
Their whole marketing strategy is to make their products outrageously expensive so suckers will think they're worth the money.
Ester Lauder management is extremely savvy. They bought La Met because they recognize a high profit business when they see them. You might as well buy Pond's and donate the rest to charity.
By the way perfumes (fragrances) cost very little to produce. Maybe $10-15 a bottle, or less, for high end designer brands. The costs are all in marketing and PR.

    Just saw this by coincidence
Firstly, as a user of La Mer and as someone w highly sensitive skin and eczema flare ups around the eyes, this is the only cream that has truly worked and made a difference
It cleared my eczema gently, my skin is beyond good now and while ridiculously expensive, the original cream they went to market with is well worth it
Secondly, had you read the instructions, you’d know one needs about an eighth of the amount for the face that you used for one cheek alone. You don’t rub it in your face but v briefly heat a pea sized amount in your hands and then press it into your skin
Because only a small amount is needed, a jar lasts for a v long time thereby aiding the prize point
I appreciate you may just be doing your job, but don’t discredit a product without properly checking it out first
Some of us really may benefit from it (I most certainly do as do many others)
These disparaging videos entirely based on falsehoods are useless

I buy a one ounce jar and Nordstrom’s gives me about 10 little sample travel jars if they have them. Lasts me all year because I only use it about 3x a week at night. Ask for samples to try at home. It’s so good.

I spent way too many euros on a product that I had no real intention on buying but was curious and thought why not? Needless to say I never repurchased any of the products, their ghastly expensive and I didn't really see any pronounced benefits any more than I did with the products that I normally use at a third of the cost.

I used to work for LaMer and with Super Luxury Products. Not $100 products but products $300-2500 a piece. I must say I never looked at someone that used LaMer and said “wow you’re skin is amazing”. It’s owned by Estee Laudee and many say when they purchased the company from Max Huber the original formula changed. Personally using Super Luxury products, I enjoyed them; but nothing prevented me from getting Botox injections. All claims made are over exaggerated. They do provide benefits but then most things do to an extent. Of all the Luxury products I’ve used I saw the most difference in my skin with Natura Bisse from Spain. In my best assessment LaMer is a Basic Moisturizer with fantastic marketing

@@madisonh800 Update - So I now own la mer and have been using it religiously for 2 months. My skin has never been this hydrated. As a chemist who develops skin care and cosmetics, dr dray is right in terms of some other products having the same ingredients as la mer - but same ingredients does not mean same quality. Even while formulating skin care the purity and quality of each individual ingredient really adds to the efficacy and price of the product. It is also about how you actually design the molecule to penetrate your skin as our skin is such a complex barrier.
As a chemist and Skin care lover, I can assure you that la mer is seriously amazing and sets the standard for skin care !!
Note- la mer does contain a lot of dimethicone in their products which gives that instant smoothing look, regardless of that I have observed drastic improvements in hydration. Although a dermatologist is more competent in skin that does not mean they are competent in chemical formulations and design.

I have literally probably tried 100 brands of skincare. Anything from my dermatologist recommendations like cerave, cetaphil, vanicream etc which all of them made my skin so extremely dry and irritated and some even caused me to breakout. I've even tried brands from sephora.. ulta and department stores. More recently I even tried medical grade skincare because of where I work and I was left with dry, irritated broken out skin. Over the years I have used La Mer here and there and just couldn't stomach the cost. However, years ago I broke out in contact dermatitis from benzoyl peroxide and I literally tried everything my derm recommended and prescribed to get it to go away.. nothing worked. I went out and bought the La Mer Concentrate and it literally healed the rash in a matter of days. I kept reflecting on that and went out and purchased a full La Mer regimen and my skin has never looked better.

"La Mer is not for you if you have rosacea", the most awaited comment! I suffered from rosacea and I always wanted to try La Mer due to the "it's hella expensive, it must worked" kinda mindset. Thanks Dr Dray! Now I can spend my money on bags

I have rosacea and it has helped lessen it significantly so I think it's a case to case basis.

Yes !! I went for a consultation after so many people said it completely cleared up their acne . The esthetician said if I wanted it to work I need to purchase their entire skin care range and use solely that. 🙄 Consequently, I’d like to hear an opinion of a dermatologist before I spend serious bucks on it.

This is the kind of video that we need on youtube! Especially when this kind of brands are partnering with EVERY vlogger and you really cannot trust their reviews anymore. Always coming back to you, Andrea! Thanks for also spending that much money for the sake of the video! 💖

Absolutely love this review! The prices for these products is so ridiculous when the active ingredients are in so many other far less expensive ones. Dr. Dray, please keep harping on fragrance in skincare! We need to make these cosmetics companies understand how damaging it is to the skin! :-D Oh....and thank you for the clear explanation about parabens. :)

helpfulnatural: Reading the comments for this video are surprising and disheartening. In spite of Dr Dray clearly not recommending La Mer, many subs are diminishing her criticism and seem to think that because she did a brand review, she’s endorsed it. Why don’t people get that fragrance is detrimental to skin health? Enough said. The fact that people think spending OUTRAGEOUS prices for problematic skin is ok utterly baffles me.

    • @helpfulnatural

@@jt8142 It is quite baffling. I changed my skincare completely a few months ago to all-fragrance-free which eliminated all the redness, overly dry skin, watery eyes and even my under eye circles are far less dark and noticeable. I'm using far less concealer than I used to and my skin looks and feels better than it did 10 years ago. CeraVe saved my skin!

This was great info on reasons to not put a bankroll of money in a product just because it’s supposed to fix everything. I so agree about fragrance being in anything you apply for skincare products. It’s also great to know you can get great skincare at a fraction of the cost of their products. Wish I had seen the video on blue light before I was talked into spending money on a “blue light” product. Live and learn from Dr Day & Dr Lin. Thanks 🙏

I recently decided to try Creme de La Mer. Such polarizing opinions, I wanted to decide for myself! I had been using it happily for a month and changed nothing else in my routine when I went to a scheduled dermatology appointment. She did not ask which products I use and without prompting commented that my skin looked nice, smooth, and calm compared to my last visit. I have also had several other people unexpectedly mention how great my skin looks. I know a month isn't long enough to see "real" results, but interesting nonetheless.

I can’t tolerate alcohol in skincare at all, I tried a moisturiser earlier with alcohol denat high up in the ingredient list and immediately my eyes were watering and my face was burning and going bright red. Yikes!

Really appreciate this video. Thank GOD that my skin has nothing against fragrance-infused skincare products that many people always demonize about. My sister is a Dermatologist, and I always undergo a couple of in-office procedures every month. Fractional CO2 Laser, Microneedling + PRP, Chemical Peeling (TCA, Glycolic Acid, etc) and so on. Before I used La Mer products, my post-treatment skin did need like 2 weeks in order to fully heal. I had to experience redness, pain, sensitiveness, purging, peeled skin although I already applied some recommended medical-grade skin products during the healing process. Tbh, even some medical-grade products still irritated, 'burned' / stinged my skin. However, believe it or not, when I start using La Mer products during the healing process, they never irritate my post-treatment skin. They even always soothe and calm my skin. What completely makes me shocked is the fact that my post-treatment skin heals more quickly! I only have to experience redness for 2 - 3 days! On day 3 or 4, my skin is already back to its normal state! Even without experiencing any peeled skin! It's just amazing! Since then, I always use La Mer products as my skincare routine. My skin is just super picky since it chooses such expensive stuff as its 'delicious, nutritious foods' and acts like it cannot live without them! Hahaha! I am so in love with La Mer products, I have never experienced any break out triggered by them. Instead, La Mer products protect, restore, maintain and improve my skin barrier at a way healthier state! ❤️
