  • AIN’s Matt Thurber flies Piper’s new M600 single-engine turboprop, which is an evolution of the M500, offering significantly-improved performance. Priced at $2.853 million and with a range of 1,484 nautical miles, Piper has carved out a potentially fruitful niche for itself--filling a gap between piston-powered models and more expensive turboprop singles like Daher’s TBM930.

    Not a pilot - but that new Garmin instrumentation looks amazing - My dad was a WWII Navy pilot & learned to fly in the Stearman Biplane where the only instrumentation was the runway windsock, he would love flying the Piper M600.

    This is not in the same league as a PC12 but a direct rival to the TBM 850/900. And I can tell from flying both aircraft that the TBM is far superior in every single way. This Aircraft sits in the shadow of the TBM and will continue to do so until Piper seriously up their game.

    • @2011blueman
      @2011blueman 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There is also a $1 million price difference between the TBM and the Piper.

    Wife-you spent $2.8 and no toilet? I'll take Netjets and you can take your toy; Insurer-you spent $2.8 and have a single engine? Try Nigeria Insurance; Kids-you spent $2.8 and has a propeller? I'll go with mom on Netjets.

    • @3204clivesinclair
      @3204clivesinclair 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      cnollz PC12. More expensive, but much more capable in every way. Well worth the extra is you can afford it.

      A c90b king air. 235 knots. A lot more room and carry capacity, plus two motors. Upgrade to the -135 motors and you get close to 270 kts. For probably 25 gallons more an hour.

    Pilatus PC 12 still better

    • @3204clivesinclair
      @3204clivesinclair 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      max chilla Agree, but not same price bracket. The PC12 is more of a SUV, the M600 a sedan.

      @Ford_Raptor_R_720hp_V8 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      More Money than this and I would choose the Cessna Denali over the PC-12

      Escape for Mankind is Keith Johnson Paper aircraft though - has it flown, or is it available to fly?

    • @sterlinsmith1651
      @sterlinsmith1651 7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The PC12 and the M600 lack in the shadow of the TBM900 and 930 - but who has millions to spend on a single engine prop plane? Most folks with this type of money will opt for a business jet. The exception being the rich private pilot - which really does represent a slim market segment. Those who purchase these planes for commercial use, would be money ahead with the Cessna Caravan or such aircraft. Cool plane though!

    • @3204clivesinclair
      @3204clivesinclair 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Sterlin Smith ??? The PC12 and TBM are different aircraft - only thing in common is the single turboprop. The TBM is a sports car, the PC12 an SUV - where is the big door on the TBM?
      Plenty of people want a single turboprop rather than a business jet - smaller strips, unpaved strips, etc. Why do flying Doctors and similar organisations use such aircraft as the PC12 then, rather than a twin business jet. The running costs are also a lot less.
      Different aircraft, for different needs, for different budgets.

      @Factory400 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The PC12 does. It is the lowest cost plane with a lav so my wife may actually sign off on the decision. If I got one of these M600's she would never fly with me.

      almost twice the price, that's a lot of shoes

    • @Factory400
      @Factory400 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shoes are not really her thing - but yes the PC12 has a very expensive restroom. But that giant cabin is amazing.

    • @2011blueman
      @2011blueman 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Factory400, if you were actually in the market you'd know about the Denali, which is essentially a better version of the PC12. Bothe the Denali and the PC12 are twice as expensive as the Piper M600. Two different market segments.

  • @theoriginalrabbithole
    @theoriginalrabbithole 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Well, it seems pretty clear that Piper is jumping on the 'Daher TBM' bandwagon with a cheaper, lesser quality and MUCH slower knockoff with less payload and range than the TBM 930. If you're going to try to copy your competition, you should at least make an effort to bring something improved to the table instead of 'inferior but at a cheaper price'. Comparing an M600 to a TBM 930 is like comparing a Chevrolet Spark to a Porsche 911. Yes, they both do the same thing but in a VERY different way and yes, you get what you pay for, as with most things in life.

    • @jonoon27
      @jonoon27 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      scottiemcnichols who said the M600 is direct competition to TBM or PC-12? They are larger planes with bigger engines and cost a lot more to own and operate. Good or bad’ M600 is in a class by itself. You like it or you don’t. Apples and watermelon comparison?!

    • @oehling862
      @oehling862 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      TBM 930 is 4.1 million and in a different class. Just check speed/range/payload. TBM is touching on light jet class. Saving $1.25 million the Piper still does a great job against the 1.5 million dollar G58 barron

    • @Inspadave
      @Inspadave 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Also the Piper has lower operating costs.
