Completely free and it works! Only downside is that this does not work offline.

That’s a good point. I should’ve mentioned that in the video because that would be a downside for some.

I am waiting to purchase the one time purchase for one Mac. Office 2024 Home & Student, but it has not come out yet. I am all in Apple’s ecosystem . I just need Word or Excel on occasion.

Using office.com for free might be a good option for you until office 2024 comes out! Especially for occasional use.

Microsoft wants to get rid of one-time fee and force everyone on a subscription, so don't hold your breath.

So what is difference between this free online Microsoft service (as shown in the video) & the one which Microsoft provides free for STUDENTS (those who signup student id) ? I too have a student mail id, so should i login with student id or as you shown in the video? Which will be more beneficial?

There’s a big difference, and you should definitely go with the free education plan with your valid student ID. With that, you get the full desktop versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Access, and Publisher. Plus, 1 TB of OneDrive cloud storage. Take advantage of that student ID while you have it!

@@EverydayApple1984 gottcha. With student id version we get to install the office app into our system+1tb of onedrive, where as the regular free version just gives the Microsoft office 360 services online with 5gb of the onedrive.

If you go to office.com you should see a link underneath the two rectangular buttons. The link says "Sign up for the free version of Microsoft 365". I double checked today in a private browser window where I am not already signed in to Microsoft and it's there. Take a look at the :45 mark of my video to see that link. Once you sign up for an account through there, you can use the free web version of Office 365.

A HUGE RED FLAG!! When attempting to set up a Microsoft Account the following MS permissions, which I would have to agree to, came up before I could proceed: "Your important things are right here. When you sign in, things like your contacts, passwords, favorites, browsing history, and photos and files are available across Microsoft products." WOW! This is so very risky and makes anyone with an account very vulnerable to identity theft. So what's a suitable and less risky alternative?

    • @Äpple-pie-5k

      Pages. Numbers, Keynote

I always prefer Apple Pages, but this video is for people who need/want to use MS Office, but don't want a paid subscription for it. FYI That message you saw is just saying that if you choose to use their "contacts, passwords, favorites, browsing history, and photos and files" services that those things will be available to your wherever you log in to use MS services. It doesn't mean that those things are somehow publicly accessible.

No, it’s not a trial. As long as you stay within the storage limit for a free account, you’re good.
