  • Ballistic performance of pellets vs BBs in the Daisy Powerline 880. BBs don't necessarily give you more FPS than pellets in the same gun.

    Good video.and interesting contrast to what I believed about bbs . I love the 880 it's one of my. Favoritea.and bbs is all I use to shoot it cause I hate to load those tiny critters in that particular rifle

    The 880 has very mild rifling, if you want consistent accuracy never fire a steel bb through it. And I've owned 3 over the years so I speak from experience.

    Another plus with bbs is the 880s magnet will hold 2 in the bore, the doubly whammy on small game is huge, every squirmonk I hit with it was instantly dead, no twitching or anything.

      @@mrfrench00 Your .177 is now a .35 lol, as long as both bbs hit the target but not on top of each other.

    As an indoor shooter - can you run a comparison between the 880 at 2-3 pumps with pellets and bb's and the red ryder (?)
    I'd like to know if the red ryder target kit (max 350fps) can handle the 880 at it's lowest power before I buy one.

    oops, don't put BB's through your 880, steel against steel, just don't.
    that aside, I'm liking Winchester dome/HP's a lot (no flat ring facing forward!)
    they look identical to "Daisy 7780 precision max .177 hollow point".
    nice tight groups 8 pumps 20 yards, little expansion but sure shoot straight.

      Some BB's are made out of soft lead or copper and others may be coated.

    • @trevorjameson3213
      @trevorjameson3213 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@m9078jk3 Correct. Daisy BB's are plated in Zinc, which is softer than steel, and Crosman BB's are plated in Copper, also softer than steel. Therefore, they will not damage the barrel of a Daisy 880. Plus, the Daisy 880 uses very shallow and flat rifling grooves, specifically designed to shoot BB's or pellets without damage.

      @@trevorjameson3213 , just purchased mine 2 days ago. I ALSO, got some COPPERHEAD bb's, instead of regular bb's...honestly I always wondered what the difference was why steel vs copper, and I only fired the copper bb's through my new 880 5 times! didn't seem to hit target within 25ft, but I slapped some old PELLET (.177cal/7.0 grains. MY with only 5 pumps to test ...and boyyyyy that sound when it smacked was beautiful!!! Thought itll sound like red ryder when fired and hit targets...NOPE 880 is definitely powerful! May have to just buy another 880 and just use that one for ( .177 GAMO LEAD BALLs!!!because I'd rather separate both 880's..one for pellets and the other for either the copper bb's and gamo steel balls ONLY! Quick question to all....firing those copper bb's through my 880 about 5 times only...have it may have messed up the barrel?...just asking because many say NEVER do so but I only fired COPPER BB'S only 5 times then switched to pellets!....just curious, thanks in advance!

      Only use Crosman BB's and pellets, Daisy ammo is garbage.

    I expected the BBs were going to chrono at 880fps. Isn't that the selling point?

    • @trevorjameson3213
      @trevorjameson3213 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The model number "880" does not indicate the speed that it shoots. Even when first released in 1972, the Daisy 880 was being advertised as shooting BB's at a maximum of 710fps. In reality, it could only reach about 660fps. But that is still very fast for a BB gun.

      Then manufacturers would stop putting random numbers in the name, I expect better from American companies. Daisy 880, Crosman legacy 1000 … my butt

    My 880 has had horrible accuracy with bbs.

    • @yoitired
      @yoitired ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I figured out why. Oil from the pump coats the inside of the bore, sticks to the bbs and seems to hurt their accuracy a lot more than pellets. I push a couple patches through every few hundred shots and then it shoots bbs straight again.

    2 years later:
    smooth bore like pump master 760 only BBs
    NXG rifled only lead pellets,
    You can shoot pellets from smooth bore,but steel BB in rifled barrel not good, I mean you can but I don’t recommend it
