  • Here's a look at the gorgeous offering by Seiko. The blue dial is my favorite. If only they had made this with Grand Cocktail standards. But it's a worthy piece nonetheless.

    Hey, I love the shot of the blue watches of your collection. I’m not yet at the stage in my life where I can afford an omega sea-master, however I do have this seiko presage and that blue citizen promaster. Awesome watches, the both of them.

    I have the same one a leather strip. When I hear other youtubers I hear them complain about the so called lesser movement. But at the end of the day it is about the durability and the accuracy. The durability is great without a doubt. And really the accuracy is not a problem either. The one I have loses about 5 seconds a day, which is fine. So I agree, a great whatch for the price.

      PierreB - I've rotated mine overnight between dial up and 3 oclock up since I first set it a month ago and my official reading is currently +0.0 sec a day. Can't beat that!

    Totally agree. Hypnotic blue dial. I got one for less than $300 at Macy's during their holiday sale. Stellar deal on a piece that looks so much more high end. After seeing the Presage SSA393 live in person, I bought that one too. Upgraded movement, nicer brown mock croc leather deployant clasp strap, and that dial is a gorgeous subtle purple that turns electric in the sunlight.

    Excellent review Dave. My thoughts exactly. It’s gorgeous but niggles me how corners have been cut on bracelet quality and handlex Chryslal. Here in Europe it’s retailing for the equivalent of 450 dollars. Generally I would expect solid endlinks and saphire for that price. No doubt they are a top brand however the cost cutting exercises do often annoy me. Saphire Chrystal , better bracelet and a bit of movement decoration it would be a must have , even at a higher price. At present I’m still unsure..

      I definitely agree. Same here. Love the Cocktail but these things are bothering me. I own 5 Seikos from entry to higher end ones (including SARX013 JDM model) but this Cocktail time just doesn't feel spot on... to many corners cut imho. Nevertheless, love the piece and many congrats to you, Dave!

    Great review. In my opinion however, the "Presage" font is a plus, pushing the look of the watch in a more masculine, less "dandyish" direction. It would probably take me a bit longer to feel really comfortable with the crown size/shape actually.

    Excellent overview of the new Cocktail Time Presage series of watches.
    I have this nagging feeling that one of the original Cocktail Time watches, one of which was the SARB065 you mention, is going to become a highly-sougtht-after timepiece and despite my general lack of need for a dress watch, I probably should buckle down and get a 065 before they become astronomically expensive. Nothing against the new Presage variants, but I think the original is going to become a WIS legend before too long.
    I have a 6R15 movement in a Sumo, and it doesn't really impress me in any great way. I have half a dozen watches, Seiko and micro-brands, that have the 4R36 and they match the 6R in beat frequency (3 Hz), accuracy (none of mine are all that great, about +/- 10 seconds a day), and the 6R's ten extra hours of power reserve isn't all that much more. So the 4R35 in the new Presage line should be just fine for everyone and it provides a lower price point than Seiko's watches featuring the 6R15.
    So many Swiss and micro-brand manufacturers provide sapphire crystal at this price point and while I have no general complaints about Hardlex in my own collection, it does seem curious why Seiko is being so stubborn about it -- particularly in the dressier Presage line.

    • @DavesWatchLove
      @DavesWatchLove  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lee K - Good points on the 4r35. I've always had good experiences with the movement. I always hear people treating the 6r15 as if it's significantly better, but maybe not. I didn't realize they had the same beat rate.

    • @Lee_K_5555
      @Lee_K_5555 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, there is a lot of discussion about Seiko choosing to use their 6R15 movement (21,600 BPH) in their middle range watches (Sumo, the new 62mas re-imaginings, the Shogun, the Transocean, others), when their. Swiss competitors frequently use the 28,800 BPH ETA 2824-2 or Sellita SW-200 movement. Some of the Swatch Group brands (Hamilton, Certina, Tissot) are now using the Powermatic 80 movement, which is a 2824-2 slowed down to 21,600 BPH but with a resulting bump in power reserve to 80 hours. This makes the 6R15's power reserve of 50 hours look quite lacking. Seiko's 28,800 BPH movement is the 8L35, seen in the MM300 and the SLA017 Limited Edition. I wish they would consider dropping that down to the lower price levels.
      I like the 4R36 and NH35 movements in general, but haven't ever experienced the accuracy that you are fortunate to get with your new Presage Cocktail Time. I would consider yourself quite lucky.

    That’s a great review. Loved it. This watch is available in India as well. Seriously planning to buy it but I am confused between this watch and the TISSOT LE LOCLE POWERMATIC 80 T006.407.16.033.00 it has 80 hours power reserve and Sapphire Crystal. Both are at the same price point. Any Suggestions from your side?

    • @DavesWatchLove
      @DavesWatchLove  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Shailesh Karekar - The Tissot is a high quality piece for the price. Sapphire crystal and 100m water resistance. The 80 hr power reserve is pretty amazing. So it's definitely more watch for the money. The question is do you like the watch's design better than the Seiko, and will the smaller size (39mm) work for you? I really like Tissot as a brand.

    Fantastic review. What size are your wrists. Mine are 7.5 inches and I normally wouldn't go for anything under a 42mm dial as it would look too small. That's the only thing putting me off. Been offered one brand new for £265.

    The PRESAGE AUTOMATIC text ruins the watch for me. Too bad. Got the SARB065 and would get this one as well, wouldn't it have been for the totally out of place text on the dial.
