    Now you can catch people trying to beat their car mats on your tree! LOL I'm a retired electronics technician/engineer (EE) of 37 years. It's nice to see one of these "gadget" videos done right. Soldering, heat shrink, terminals, NO hot glue, waterproofing, proper tools, etc. Thanks for the enjoyable video. :-)

    I am the super of a 73-unit condo building in Portland, Oregon, and this is what I needed to stop taggers climbing our fire escape to leave huge graffitis at the top of our building. Going to make one of these tomorrow!!

    Awesome. Gonna make this today. My wife caught some guy walking around my porch scoping the house out while i wasn't there. If he comes back I'll be waiting wide awake with a 12 ga now. Thanks for the video, man.

    3 things. First use double stick Velcro on batteries for replacement, Second, you can paint the entire unit to match your background. Just cover the alarm opening. 3rd: Layer your alarms. Assume after the first breach they will cut string. Put more on the inside of your home.

    I have thieves going thru cars. I leave my 4x4 unlocked (so they dont bust the lock) and although I take out the battery and don’t leave cash I need to know when they’re about and teach them a lesson. This alarm will do nicely. Thanks!

    Have been having break-in around the neighborhood, and looking for an alarm system...many of them use Shot Gun Blanks, etc, but I like yours...plenty loud, and lasts until you disconnect or put the plastic slip back in...I really like it, and a person can build it themselves cheap...Thank you!

    Oh, also, if you're using continuous alarms, consider the disorientation of the defender when two or three of these alarms go off and then keep going off as you're trying to figure out where they're hiding. A single, sudden report from a shotgun primer works best.

    As an industrial maintenance electrician by trade that was beautifully made. The only improvement that springs to mind for me is maybe treating the peg with preserver first as in uk pegs tend to rot and weaken over 1 - 2 years but very very good video

    Excellent video! Here's what I need though ... I need an alarm that will only go off for a relatively short duration. (sounds long enough to scare the intruder away and then shuts off) This way I don't have to physically turn it off so that it isn't a "nuisance alarm" for my neighbors. How would I accomplish this? I guess I would either need an alarm where its default is to go off for a set time or ... a duration settable alarm? Is there such a thing? Is there such a Piezo Alarm?

    A friend rigged up an intruder alarm in his garden shed, it was a locally bought device that fired a 12 bore blank cartridge when the shed door was opened. Time passed and he forgot about it. Then one day needing something from the shed, opened the door and the blast nearly gave him a heart attack, he said he was deaf for a week!

    95dB isn't slightly less than 105dB, it's less than half as loud (but still suitable in most cases).

    • @electronicsNmore
      @electronicsNmore  8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hard to believe that only 10db difference is 2x as loud, but according to the link below, you're correct. 95 DB is a subway train at 200 feet and 105 DB would be like standing next to a small gas engine at 3 feet. You would think 52db would be 1/2 as loud.
      www.gcaudio.com/resources/howtos/loudness.html

    • @power-max
      @power-max 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Logarithmic scales are weird like that. I thought 6db attenuation is half amplitude though.For certain measurements, 3db down is half. Logarithmic scales are used because they are supposed to better approximate apparent loudness, at least for sound, and can allow very, VERY large differences to be graphed on the same (log) scale, allowing a very wide dynamic range.

    I was wondering can you make a laser or motion activated ignitor or firing device, meaning if I wanted to make a trip flare but instead of using a trip wire have the motion detector or laser pointer to electronically ignite the flare?

    • @electronicsNmore
      @electronicsNmore  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not hard to do. I have another video showing a small, portable IR motion activated alarm. You need to pick up a model rocket igniter(or make your own like I show on my channel in another video), then instead to having the piezo siren trigger, you would use a 2N4401 or higher current rated NPN transistor and have it trigger the igniter. :-)

    you can buy a 130 db trip wir alarm on Ebay for $13.50, it's also waterproof

    • @electronicsNmore
      @electronicsNmore  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      David Storton Not waterproof. water resistant. The unit has short battery life of only 30 mins, needs to have a line connected to both sides, and when it falls on the ground, it has a 50/50 chance of landing face down in the grass or soil. When that happens, the sound level is greatly reduced. If the line from a tree is kept short to the alarm, and it swings down with the piezo against the tree trunk, the sound will also be reduced. They also exaggerated the db rating. Thanks for watching

    • @electronicsNmore
      @electronicsNmore  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Very simple. Eliminate the piezo alarm and use a 9V Songle relay. Power will be applied to the relay coil. Using another 12V power supply(small lead acid battery), connect up your car horn to the COMMON and NORMALLY OPEN terminals of the relay just like a switch.

Just use the silicone on both the screw (it just keeps it from backing out as well) and to attach the rain shield. Unless you use lots of glue, water can find its way between the pieces and will work into the alarm. There's no stress on the shield, a bead of silicone will hold. If you just can't stand it and use the glue there, fine... But run a thin bead of silicone over the seam, anyway. You want it to work in an emergency, right?
    Thanks for the good projects.

    ain’t that the coolest thing. but I think it would be good to make a few fake ones the thieves could see but have rigged behind when they stem over the fake they trip the real one they don’t see. if I were I thief and got away I would think that home ain’t worth it. afraid or to many alarms I can’t see . it seems like a good idea to me . thank you sir for the information. nana and papa aka the hunter

      Radio Shack 273-079. :-) You can also use other piezo alarms at the link provided in the video description area....Much cheaper.

      Sounds ike you know what you are doing. I have moved my Mother into a house next to mine so she didn't have to go into a home. HOWEVER. I am looking for a inexpensive wireless alarm that she can carryJust a button and if she was to fall she can press the button and a LOUD VERY Loud alarm/siren will go off out side. I have looked at the medical things but do not have that kind of money. I wonder about a wireless door bell and replaceing the speaker with an alarm or siren? Would the speaker from one of those set off this alarm? Have you done anthing like this. I am finding lots of people that have a need but not the money. Thanks Royce

    Trip wire. We have ninjas here they map out the infrared sensors and walk them off wearing black clothes. A trip line moved at random. Might be what the doctor ordered. Wish they would get a job. Instead of riding 4 four wheelers and drinking all night, and let my Genny fuel alone. Tks om de kv4li. Post script..maby a car horn and a motor cycle battery. Might get some strange smells in the night. He he.

    How long does this ring for? Some awful very crappy acting seemingly young people keep breaking into my friends house. (dumb graffiti that looks like elementary school kids drew it, silly phrases on the wall, angsty stuff..)
    Lots of anger and heartbreak about what they've done to his and his son's things but I want to have a chance at catching them. His son says he doesn't know who would do this and he doesn't have a beef against anyone, so dead end there. It's been 2 months since the first break in.
    I want it to last a few minutes at least... they've never been caught in the act. I feel like at least a TIME that the alarm went off would help with investigating. Or at least deter further damage. A nice recorder that can last hours would help too... charge it up... put it by the trip alarms... unfortunately a cheap camera that can stay o for hours behind the trip alarm probably doesnt exist. (Charge it up because the police have shut off the electricity as a deterrent)

      You need to watch my NVR video camera video. It can be found in my "Product Review" video playlist. You can buy that system, and have it notify you when any motion has been detected. When motion is detected, the camera will start recording video, and it will be saved to a hard drive. You can also access the video cameras using your smartphone. Its the best way to catch them.
