I’m pretty sure when the character refers to “Shiva’s dominant” he isn’t saying he’s a follower of Shiva. Instead, I think he’s referring to the person that controls the summon. Maybe in this world the summon’s dominants will be akin to medieval lords that control their own individual kingdoms and protect their people.

Hmm. The way I saw that part is, the main character signed up to join and fight for the Shiva militia, because it looks like that him and his comrades with the tattoos were being schooled on their current situation. As if they’re newbies. Plus the guy scolding them says “Shiva’s dominant, and ONLY dominant”. I interpreted that as him saying something like “you’re part of the Shiva regime, we only take W’s”. Sort of like a morale mantra if you will. That guy sounded prideful in fighting for Shiva. But again, just my quick interpretation of that scene. It seems that Ifrit is pulling out Phoenix's wings, it must be from there that the protagonist gains the ability to use them, he must absorb them in some way (at least one of them). I imagine that the battle between Ifrit and Phoenix must happen at the beginning of the game, introducing the villain (the burning humanoid) and the initial conflict that will trigger everything.

Then we see the realm with the boy, looks a bit more like center Europe in the middle age, and everyone has an accent so this will probably be the Christian stile, and with the Fenix representing them that fits really well because of Christ resurrection's, also Fenix fighting Ifrit with the aspect of a demon or a devil in that matter, which lead me back to the beginning crew, with that errand vibe it would make sense for them to side with ifrit/devil to fight the Fenix/Christ. He's also the one opposite the main character at the end close ups. The soldier on the ground sees yellow eyed fire man become Ifrit in an explosion of fire, and says something that sounds like "a second icon/dominant of fire? thats impossible!" This sort of implies that the summons only have one of each element type normally, but for some reason Phoenix and Ifrit are in a war for who is the true icon of fire. Ifrit seems to kill the Phoenix in this siege by the evil empire, and then main character takes on a quest to avenge/resurrect the phoenix boy or perhaps becomes the new phoenix somehow as we see some phoenix powers during combat.
Blight = star scourge Astrals being hidden as humans Main character says he's Joushas shield There's alot of thing pointing to a ff15 connection in this trailer
Yeah and possibly FF10, if you consider how the Aeons were people and that connection. So maybe this connects a few of them. 🤔 For example I see the FF14 and FF15 connections but when I think medevil I also think of FFTactics/FF12 (Ivalice) in general along with the older final fantasy games that had more medevil settings in mind. But like Pez said, the Imperial Armor definitely makes me think of the FF12 and FFTactics (Tactics advanced games in particular) Judges for certain. Also.. on that note.. even if they don't do an amazing Graphics version I'd like to see them bring in a new FFTactics title, for Switch and PS5 honestly. I miss the tactics games that aren't mobile cash grab versions. But still I'm happy FF16 is a thing! :D
This mighte be the "ultimate" FF in a sense, regarding the summons. And not only that, it seems to combine and take influence from a lot of stuff. This is just a first expression ofc, and I am sure older titles also took a lot of inspiration, especially as seen with FF9.
i love all your videos and i cant wait to click on one as soon as a new video comes out- all the theories and the eiditing and the content and the discussions-- bring it on!!!! much love
Looks more like a behemoth vs a pheonix. Im guessing there are two playable characters on opposite sides of war and each is a "dominant" of the pheonix and behemoth respectively. They had a moment where one character was comboing with what looked like claws, while the other was shooting fire magic and teleporting with fire effects. Also explains why they show each face, and have the two facing off in the art Joshua appears to be the ifrit dominant as the man says "impossible" and you hear a shout of "Joshua, wake up!" While ifrit is tearing something apart (probably pheonix) I know behemoth isn't normally a summon but it is iconic. Also those claws could be bahamut i suppose. You can tell it was worked on by somebody from dmc.
Holy shit this game is so much hype. Finally putting the summons to the very big spotlight and connecting it to some complex medieval occultist/religion story telling. Helly yeah. And just imagine Bahamut.!!
Square has stopped teasing us with legends of "ancient wars between the gods" and will finally show us. Although the similarity between the "Icons" and the "Astrals" is sus (except Ifrit). Possible connection? Either way, I'm hyped.
At first I agree that phoenix wing looked like an attack, but any chance it was a phoenix down? Came right as a sort of explosive looking animation happened under/around the enemy, so it could be automated revive of some kind.
The whole decision to name him 'Joshua' is out of the ordinary for FF honestly and has interested me the most for theories with so little to go on. Usually protagonists (and even fleeting characters like FFXII Reks for example have 'meaningful' names so maybe Joshua has too. * Joshua Tree National Park has a mountain peak called 'Resurrection' - * In the Bible, Joshua was chosen by 'God' to be the leader of the 12 tribes - wonder how many Eikons we'll see- better be more than 6 like FFXV . * The Book of Joshua uses the theme of uniting Israel/Motherland as a single people (no longer battling tribes) worshipping Yahweh in the land destined for them. Yahweh conquers the land, and his/its power wins the battle between tribes. Liking your videos most recently but always enjoyed them - seeing more off-the-cuff chat, sharing reactions etc is great- keep it up dude.
Its been observed that there exists a trend among some Japanese game developers, especially in jRPGs, to pull ideas (be it narrative or just aesthetics) from Christianity & Judaism much in the same way as some American & European creatives like to assemble everything from say, Norse or Greek theological sources; In the FF series directly, there's the Church of Glabados from Tactics, Light of Kiltia from XII, and Yevon from X as a few examples. I concur, the parallels are probably intentional as fuck. I doubt it will be much of a surprise, if one of the political factions in XVI is a church of some sort.
I imagine 1 to 2 years. I cant think that they would release a trailer and drop the game in 5 years or so. Hopefully they learned that lesson with FF7R. Hype is all good, but it doesn't need a millenium for it.
I'm super excited for FF16 as soon as i heard that the development team is the majority of the team that made Heavens Ward. We all know how good that expansion for FF14 was as long time players of that game. So very confident that Hakai & Yoshida can create a memorable story & FF game that will go down as one of the best in the series. Also judging by the trailer i think that there may be a time jump cause we see the protag in his younger years when he was the 'shield' for Joshua (the dominant for Phoenix i presume) & later when he is older with the very Derplander look with the messy hair & gruff.
I think depending on the icon blessing or maybe you can equip summons and it gives you those wings and arm attacks. Like the Phoenix for the wing and titan for the arm attacks
I reckon that Joshua's mother is shiva. also, the guy giving a speech around the camp fire, looked like he had dragoon armour under his coat, possibly an imperial, they come across as a group made up from different areas or possibly beliefs?
Eikon is definitely an underused term Kyle. Haven't seen that reference since the Warring Triad back in Heavensward. Primal is my least favourite term - I've always preferred 'summons' and 'aeons'. Primals is as bad as GFs and Espers. Dunno where I fall with Eidolons lol. I'll take 'eikons' for FXVI all the way
It's going to be heavy action combat, I highly highly doubt it will be anything like lightning returns combat - there is dodging and 360 running in combat (as you can see with the malboro and the dragoon)
I think this may be a lot closer than people think. I don't expect it next year but I could actually see 2022 being a possibility. Yoshida has proven to be a boss that gets shit done with FF14, which is to say, I really don't think this game is gonna go through the development hell the last few Final Fantasy games have. This first trailer looks like a tangible product, which is way more than most initial major Final Fantasy announcements get.
You see when he is young he says he is sworn to protect the kid. The kid gets covered in blood when his father dies, then freaks out when the castle is under attack. He becomes a pillar of fire and you see the man in flames. Chances are the very start when we are told "our kind ar enot ask questions" and they have the tatoos on their faces might be the "shields" who failed to protect their wards. Disgraced knights sort of thing. Likely teh game intro/tutorial phase is the young version and the build up to the assault on the castle and the kids dying/tranforming. The rest of the game you play as older dude disgraced, seeking vengeance for whatever or whoever attacked the castle in the youth and vengeance for the kids death maybe? Edit: this would also explain why we saw single player combat only and not party. All the elements except 1 were young version of the lead character. When he was the sole ward. Likely later game will see party members.
I saw an additional NPC or switchable character with 'The Shield' at the start of the battle sequence- to his right- could be the blonde soldier from the trailer. I'm hoping for an FF7 style dynamic group battle system - one player only will run the series outright, after 25 years playing this I NEED a group of diverse characters- FFXV was honestly lacking for the fact we had 4 generic lads with no discernible cultural or political variations in their end goals. I'd love at least one non-'Hume' character in there. Agree with you on adding characters to later trailers - it'd be truly disappointing being a single character DMC-clone.
I'll say my interpretation of the trailer The guy with the tattoo is part of some sort of royal army that takes down Icons, whether its an army with their own Icon or some anti icon powers idk. Yoshuwa or whatever is the vessel to Phoenix obviously. If things go like a normal FF game in terms of having a party system, I'd say the tattoo guy betrays his army and joins the blonde and black hair kid on some kind of adventure.
@@iansantiago7545 I think something bad will happen, which will lead to a revenge story. Seems like the protagonist becomes a mercenary or assassin and is targeting people who have the power to summon eikons. Thats what I depicted from the trailer at the end.
I called it before and I’ll call it again. This will be a souls-esq final fantasy. I’m so ready for this game. I feel like it’ll have a job system and party members will be more like mystic quest in terms of “show up, help a bit and leave when convenient”.
I really hope we actually get a full sized party in this game, moving away from that is easily one of the worst trends of recent Final Fantasys. This is the first trailer though so it makes sense that they wouldn't show it
I'm in complete agreement with your sentiment! I was SUPER excited to watch the trailer, only to be left discouraged and with nervousness. I was not at all a fan of either FF15 and FF13 style driven narratives. I am with holding complete judgement knowing this is a teaser trailer but still I lost a lot of enthusiasm after viewing it. Fingers crossed!
Yeah FF always includes a solid party, it's always a formula of JRPGS mostly and especially FF. I mean single player is all nice and good, and this would be special for a FF title, but I dont know how to feel about this aspect.
Rumor goes that the dominants are like summoners and eikons are Summons. Heavy emphasis on elementals here at the end the guy is surprised at another fire eikon other than ifrit. The arch dukes son controls Phoenix. The amano logo is ifrit against Phoenix. Fighting fire with fire. I get ff4 vibes with these guys invading and stealing a crystal or a dominant. Dude looks like a Hume noctis/squall . This is 14/15 style world and characters with devil may cry fighting style. Notice mc using wind attacks Phoenix attacks and titan fists. He can use different eikons prolly just guessin mate. Let this soak in that grey matter pez. Enjoy. Give us a fucking M rating square
9:03 pez this gave me squall vibes, i am hyped don't get me wrong i love 7 is getting the remake treatment but i am overjoyed we getting a new adventure, original characters etc can't wait to see what they do. WE ARE HERE FOR IT!!
I really like that they bring back the Eikon term. With them being labeled as false gods it is going to make me wonder exactly what they are viewed as by the people in the game and is there are going to be any secrets behind them.
What I get from this trailer is that there are people who are like jinchuriki that harbor the summons. These people are like religious figures to their respective kingdoms. These "dominants" as they're called can give their powers to select soldiers like vassals. These vassals can use some of the powers of the dominant in battle, etc.
I feel like replaying V might give some insight to xvi. looking through the story. the phoenix first appeared in V the description of the phoenix summon in V seems to correlate a little with xvi's trailer also the main presents of dragoons in V. and V being the first game yoshida got to work on and now doing his first main line title, I could see him doing a call back.
pez, what do you think the tattoos symbolize? the assumed MC and group he is with all seem to have a type of tattoo on their cheek but during that war scene, i saw others with tattoos on their arms. do you think this could link to their affiliations perhaps?
I didn’t even catch the angel of Valhalla chocobo reference. Good eye! Maybe they named him Odin which would be a cool nod if Odin isn’t a summon in this game.
The way it showed two different characters at the end makes me think that you'll play as two different characters, one could have the phoenix as a summon and one could have ifrit. Or it could just be that the protagonist uses one and the antagonist uses the other
I agree, the first time I saw the trailer I got ff12 vibes specially on the character's faces but I love the added gore. This might mean that final fantasy 16 is getting a mature rating. It's about damn time.
Honestly I'm making a few theories of my own. The log imo represents a battle between destruction (ifirit) and resurrection (Phoenix). And to me personally that last line with the protagonist saying he'll kill someone no matter what, doesnt really sound like a revenge line. It sounds almost as if hes on a mission to do a mercy kill. Maybe the kid he was designated to be a guard to. I'm super fucking hype for this game though
Ok so what I've gathered: FF4 vibes. Different kingdoms/houses have different crystals. This house has fire, this house has ice etc. There's one person of each house that can summon the "icon" of the crystal. These are the "dominants". It's a total game of thrones take on FF mythology. There's a master crystal or "Mother Crystal". Then you've got some faction that feels crystals have ruled the world for too long and will look to overturn that status quo. Anywho, looks fucking amazon.
The MC seems to be like a “Glaive” which uses the power of his master. The main conflict seems to be within the house of fire having 2 Dominants or Eikons. As seen from the reaction from the soldier, having 2 Eikons in one house is unusual. The usurping dominant whose Eikon is Ifrit comes to kill Joshua who is the recognized Dominant of the fire crystal. And MC goes after the Dominant of Ifrit to avenge his Lord. I’m speculating the power of Dominant is pass thru bloodline so it could be that the Dominant of Ifrit is a bastard son of the Archduke. Just my thought.
@@septimus07 Yeah dude. Very perceptive. I'm wondering if the Mother Crystal is just what one house calls their crystal, or some kind of master crystal that all the others are linked to somehow. Maybe the MC is chosen by the mother Crystal and that's why he uses all sorts of powers? This game looks so damn good.
I said this on Mr. Happys video BUT I'm gonna day it here to. The main character is gonna become the Avatar of the Eikons (like the Avatar of the Elements)
Getting Final Fantasy 14-15 vibes. And it's Dark Soulsy. Can't wait to see how Bahamut will look. ALSO NOTICE that they said "A 2nd eikon of fire? impossible" sounds like Joshua's family are under the phoenix. But you see that moment where blood is spilled on joushas face that the attack came from a traitor baring the same clothing. Seems like a inner civil war? People want to replace the phoenix with ifrit?

There's alot of thing pointing to a ff15 connection in this trailer
Can wait until Pez drops those theory video's.
This mighte be the "ultimate" FF in a sense, regarding the summons. And not only that, it seems to combine and take influence from a lot of stuff. This is just a first expression ofc, and I am sure older titles also took a lot of inspiration, especially as seen with FF9.
It gave me a lot of FFXV and FFXIV vibes; that nameless dude has a lot of Noctis vibes especially. Love it!
i love ur ff videos pez. i hope you continue to make these forever
A former Capcom member specifically in DMC5 is also in this project iirc
That's awesome to know. No wonder the combat looks so clean. They did a great job.
FINAL FANTASY 16 WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO YEAH! FINALLY!
i love all your videos and i cant wait to click on one as soon as a new video comes out- all the theories and the eiditing and the content and the discussions-- bring it on!!!! much love
I was WAITING for this one.
Light VS Dark Phoenix Legendary Firebird Mysic God of Life and Light versus Ifrit Fiery Hell Demon God of Death and Destruction Let's Do This !!
Joshua's maid is beautiful
Looks more like a behemoth vs a pheonix. Im guessing there are two playable characters on opposite sides of war and each is a "dominant" of the pheonix and behemoth respectively. They had a moment where one character was comboing with what looked like claws, while the other was shooting fire magic and teleporting with fire effects.
Also explains why they show each face, and have the two facing off in the art
Joshua appears to be the ifrit dominant as the man says "impossible" and you hear a shout of "Joshua, wake up!" While ifrit is tearing something apart (probably pheonix)
I know behemoth isn't normally a summon but it is iconic.
* Joshua Tree National Park has a mountain peak called 'Resurrection' -
* In the Bible, Joshua was chosen by 'God' to be the leader of the 12 tribes - wonder how many Eikons we'll see- better be more than 6 like FFXV .
This trailer was ABSOLUTELY NUTS!!!!!
Wow they went all out in this game. Amazing!!
that's under the direction of Yoshi P so we all know this game will be the best FF solo game we got in a very long time.
The Pompa Sancta Pez is the performance in Nautilus with the Eidolons.
What about the two guys at the end are twin brothers, each one fighting for a different faction. Would explain the similarities in design.
Could be true. I think that they're the same person, after a timeskip
have a feeling we might get this game at the end of next year
I think 2022. March or April. Square likes to release around those months.
@@KazuhasKatana I think Square will tell us the release date at TGS. Personally I think holiday next year
I imagine 1 to 2 years.
Pez since you didnt quite figure it out earlier.the voice you recognized in your first watch of the trailer was the voice of General Ravus from ff15.
I have big Drautos vibes from him, looks pretty brutal.
I hope everyone sticks to "eikon" eventually lmao after playing FFXIV for nearly 4 years its jarring to see people say "icon" lmao
I heard release date is set for 2022
I'd love to be able to ride through open world on a chocobo with the ability to swing my weapons. Maybe a big battle like the trailer showed.
I screamed when I saw this in my notifications
looks more like garuda claws in that other clip. they have a green tint to them
Yaaaaasss always excited for your analysis!
True it looks very deep into the process and Yoshida keeps management tight and clean.
The guy talking about the Mother Crystal almost sounds like the same voice actor for Auron from FFX.
Its actually Ravus from ff15.take a listen
Vincent Colon Oh yeah, good catch!
That dragoon was talking the floor there 😆
Lol I was waiting for your reaction 🤣🤣
Ivalice may cry the game
Hype
The voice of the bearded guy is hendrik from dragon quest xi
I'll say my interpretation of the trailer
The guy with the tattoo is part of some sort of royal army that takes down Icons, whether its an army with their own Icon or some anti icon powers idk.
Yoshuwa or whatever is the vessel to Phoenix obviously.
If things go like a normal FF game in terms of having a party system, I'd say the tattoo guy betrays his army and joins the blonde and black hair kid on some kind of adventure.
The black haired kid is a young version of guy with tatoo
@Ian Santiago
The tattoo guy in the beginning is the same person as the other black guy, just a different age
@@Amir_97 oh so its like an origin story, do you think he'll get out of the army he's in?
@@iansantiago7545 I think something bad will happen, which will lead to a revenge story. Seems like the protagonist becomes a mercenary or assassin and is targeting people who have the power to summon eikons. Thats what I depicted from the trailer at the end.
I called it before and I’ll call it again. This will be a souls-esq final fantasy. I’m so ready for this game. I feel like it’ll have a job system and party members will be more like mystic quest in terms of “show up, help a bit and leave when convenient”.
I hope this doesnt slow down production of 7 remake pt 2 (and 3?)
They're completely different teams.
@@Lyu-Phy when I say full size party I mean not what we had in XV with just 4 guys. Only one character would be a massive step in the wrong direction
@@thenefariousbear4315 I know what you mean and yeah hopefully its a party of atleast 6 people. Or if they are 4 make them all equally perfect.
@@Lyu-Phy and not have all their characterization pay-walled or hypothetical 🙄
Pes, it’s official. I now have a man crush. The sheer excitement is just too endearing. You’re the man.
Did you buy that t shirt in universal studios in osaka too
I did actually!
Director worked on The Last Remnant.
Combat is basically DMC's Nero.
Vagrant Story touches.
I'm fucking in.
9:03 pez this gave me squall vibes, i am hyped don't get me wrong i love 7 is getting the remake treatment but i am overjoyed we getting a new adventure, original characters etc can't wait to see what they do. WE ARE HERE FOR IT!!
What do you mean by "Squall vibes"?
I really like that they bring back the Eikon term. With them being labeled as false gods it is going to make me wonder exactly what they are viewed as by the people in the game and is there are going to be any secrets behind them.
YO THEY REALLY GOT ZELDRIS IN A FINAL FANTASY GAME GOATED CROSSOVER
The VA you recognized wasn't Matt Mercer, definitely was John Hopkins, known for Hendrick from Dragon Quest 11
The way it showed two different characters at the end makes me think that you'll play as two different characters, one could have the phoenix as a summon and one could have ifrit. Or it could just be that the protagonist uses one and the antagonist uses the other
yeah, it's on. SUMMONBOWL
I agree, the first time I saw the trailer I got ff12 vibes specially on the character's faces but I love the added gore. This might mean that final fantasy 16 is getting a mature rating. It's about damn time.
So is Derplander Phoenix and Joshua Ifrit 🤔
Honestly I'm making a few theories of my own. The log imo represents a battle between destruction (ifirit) and resurrection (Phoenix). And to me personally that last line with the protagonist saying he'll kill someone no matter what, doesnt really sound like a revenge line. It sounds almost as if hes on a mission to do a mercy kill. Maybe the kid he was designated to be a guard to. I'm super fucking hype for this game though
Ok so what I've gathered:
FF4 vibes.
Pez you are my hero
I hope we have two main characters facing off against each other throughout the game. Could make for some dope storytelling
Oh, yeah.... the look of MC is very similar to Zeldris' face. Now, I can't unsee it lol
Its like this was suppose to be the sequel of type-0 but rehashed into this what do u say pez?
We need more MC classes to explore Blue, Green, Red mages & Rune Warriors/Knight. This game looks promising in that sense.
Is this a ps5 exclusive only?
