I sometimes wake up frantically in the middle of the night, horrified at the possibility of France becoming a reality. Thank the Gods it exists solely in fairy tales. Do not worry. France can’t get you here.
I like that the pathologist became the kids' guardian after them being orphaned. And the fact that their bond lasted that long is nice, they became each other's new family.
He most likely took them in because he never knew if Ed was cured for good. And he wasn't. He was human again only because he had the silver bullet stuck inside him. Once the WW1 doctor removed it the curse was back and he transformed back. In the last scene, they have the bullet back, because he had to kill Ed for good to finish the curse.
This actually looks like a good werewolf movie especially interesting to include the battle of the Somme. Werewolf movies just work best when set in the past whether it’s Victorian, Edwardian early 1900s-the makers understood that
It’s a great movie. It put the characters and story first and that carries everything. It’s just a riveting film and it’s my favorite recent horror movie. Expect to sit and visit with it.
The autopsy scene in this movie is one of the single coolest and most creative ideas I've seen in a horror movie since John Carpenter's 'The Thing'. The idea that the victim becomes "cocooned" inside the beast as part of the curse, and emerges when it's killed is just... - chef's kiss - Hats off to who ever came up with that idea.
That’s actually part of some werewolf mythology! In one story, a rich woman was married to the towns leader, and she was cursed to be a werewolf, so her husband tried to hide her true nature, eventually the town killed her in her wolf form, dragging the body into the town to her husbands horror, they skin the wolf only to reveal her inside, there’s other stories where something similar happens.
I love this movie don’t get me wrong, but I find it tough that she died that way because there was nothing they could do but the boy was a werewolf a lot longer, and was able to live
I LOVED THIS FILM. There’s so many takes on Christianity and how his son isn’t returned until the curse is over cause “THE SINS OF THE FATHER ARE NOT OF THE SON” I loved it so much. So many connections. It’s really a great film.
I LOVED IT TOO!!! How great was this movie?? I love Boyd Holbrook too. He’s southern and pulled off a British accent like a pro! This was a fantastic movie!!
As a French, very cool to see the Werewolf myth mixed up with the Gevaudan Beast, which is one of the most prominent French myths. A french movie about this myth is Brotherhood of the Wolf (Le Pacte des Loups, 2001), one of the most high-profile productions in French cinema history. More like a fever dream directed by the maker of Silent Hill, but an enjoyable ride with quite great set designs
Oh...Brotherhood of the Wolf are one of movies I have in my dvd collection. I really liked that movie and after watching a episode from Watcher´s puppet history I also found out about the myth it was based on.
I really like the premise here. The silver coins Judas got for betraying Jesus worked as a sort of anti-Holy Grail artifact. Though it does raise the question of how the coins originally got cast into the form of silver teeth or why. I think the way the curse started could have been a bit better though. Instead of some rich landowners being greedy, some kind of betrayal would have been more fitting. Perhaps the Englishmen breaking some kind of agreement or something like that would help lean into the betrayal angle better.
Well that’s why Silver is supposed to hurt supernatural beasts. Because silver was exchanged for a life, silver became cursed by God and so it hurts “unholy” creatures. An alternative reasoning is that Silver is just a unique metal in general so artists/creators use that idea to give it special properties. Ex: Silver and the Moon are usually shown to have a connection so it stands to reason that silver would hurt “moon creatures”
@@KumaoftheForest Yeah, I think FF got it wrong there when he said that the blacksmith melted them into bullets. The first time, they were melted into teeth and etched. At the end of the film, the teeth were melted into bullets.
I like the incorporation of the mom letting herself be shot through by the silver bullet, because it feels like a play on how sometimes a werewolf cure has to do with love, like a Loved one has to do the killing blow to put them down for good like in adaptations of The Wolfman. Not sure exactly what the lore justification is there, like a reverse True Love's Kiss, _True Love's Kill._ The mom's blood could have mixed with the bullet entering her wolf-son as some sort of biological ritual or a symbol of christ's sacrifice, acting as some sort of partial nulification of the curse since they're tying it with Judas' silver. IDK, but normally I'd hate a random sacrifice like that but it works here, either tactically to distract the wolf long enough to get shot, or pathologically/magically having her blood sacrifice be a necessary component for it to work, like an organ transplant works best when it's doner is biologically close. Her blood/life-force helped the silver from being rejected? could have. I like the aspects of mystery with how this curse works, and where exactly it falls. it feels ancient and vaguely unknowable; not lost knowledge but knowledge yet to be discovered.
I thought she was ridiculous. She knew the ONLY hope of her son coming back was if the guy shot him with the silver bullet. And yet, when the time came, she stood in the way. She opened the door like a fool too. They really made her into an insufferable id!ot
It wasn't a killing shot for the boy. The silver bullet keept him from being affected, it didn't cure him. There's a chance that he turned back into the werewolf the night of the day that the bullet was removed.
@@CordellPotts He didn't though because he died after it was removed. Did you miss the part that they covered him with a sheet shortly after the bullet was removed?
According to witness statements, the beast of Gevaudan was likely an escaped tiger! It was described as a lone stealth hunter that had stripes and a white belly, though it was described as wolflike by witnesses for lack of a better word, very cool reference on the movie's part
22:36 "As though it didn't want to attack them, like *they're not guilty*" I disagree, this thing has gone after kids, maids, and old ladies that had nothing to do with the massacre, it is clearly indiscriminate in it's attacks. As for why it backed off...I dunno. It could be it sensed the silver bullets he was holding, could be it detected easier prey nearby, or maybe the writers just forgot what the beast does.
I was thinking the same thing. The beast killed a bunch of innocent people already in the movie; most of which had nothing to do with the gypsy thing. So, that was probably a random plot device. Or like you said; it sensed the silver and easier prey elsewhere
Growing up in France, whenever we were visiting my grandma, we'd make a highway stop halfway, and the whole area was decicated to the beast of Gévaudan. Stones carved with stories, ancient drawings in glass cases and a stone bath (like where people washed clothes) caked in old blood ! I was te-rri-fied of the beast and imagined all sort of things, it's insane seeing it in a big budget movie !!
One for sorrow, Two for joy, Three for a girl, Four for a boy, Five for silver, Six for gold, Seven for a secret never to be told! Eight for a wish, Nine for a kiss, Ten for a bird, You must not miss.
i would bet money there was an alternate ending to this movie, where Edward transforms again after they take the bullet out, like the silver didnt cure him, just suppressed it.
This was such a refreshing take on the werewolf lore and summed up perfectly! I can always rely on FoundFlix for my next movie recommendations 👌 Top notch content everytime
The creature design for this movie is one of the most grotesque, terrifying and creepily awesome creation....and the movie's vibe is killing it.....worth to watch
I personally just appreciated that fact that there was an actually full story and that the monster didn't just exist because reasons and do things because reasons. There was actually lore and cause and effect, things that most horror movies seem to lack nowadays. Seems like too much horror just relies on jump scares and gory shock factor.
I was hoping to hear that the curse started up again after the bullet was taken out of his body, the only thing keeping himself from turning being removed. But I haven't actually seen the movie so maybe there is something that would keep it from happening.
Every time I get a notification from found flixs I feel like I'm getting ready to huddle around a campfire with a bunch of u and listen to him tell us a spooky story!
Huge missed opportunity in my opinion, after removing the silver bullet from old Edward him returning to his cursed state. That would explain why they left the bullet in all those years and that the curse will continue without the silver.
I personally don't think he did because he was already so close to death. He'd been shot 3 times in the abdomen and was losing a ton of blood while that doctor was removing the bullets.
@@joyc.e.7511 I think it would have been cool if he transformed while he was dying and die in werewolf form, to leave the others around him in pure shock and horror of what they just witnessed in front of them
For one thing, the creatures in this movie seem "werewolf-esque", not actual werewolves. It would, therefore, not make sense for them to have "regenerative powers". If anything, the take here is cursed humans being somewhat mutated and turning feral. So by not having them heal instantly is a better option, especially when you see that these creatures attack quickly and ferociously, not really giving anyone enough time to properly aim and fire a shot, and usually going after unarmed women and children. :/
i was lucky enough to see this in theatres recently!! i was so delighted that i was actually seeing a well-written and well-shot horror movie in 2022 :)

3:10 just a friendly (and truly not judgmental at all) reminder that 'Gypsy' is not a recognized title used by the Romani people, and is considered a slur (since it was made up by people outside of their community as a way to insult and degrade them). No judgment at all, I only recently found out about this myself!
I made an effort to see this one in theaters, and I'm happy I did! My top two are still An American Werewolf in London and Dog Soldiers, but this film came up pretty close to the top. The novel take on the lore was very much appreciated 🐺
You sir have great taste! Gunna check this film out for sure. I will say & it may well be because I was a young man when I first saw these.... I always thought the Ginger Snaps films were a great take on the Werewolf genre. Girls instead of men, said girls "becoming women" setting the Werewolf issues in motion. I hope one day we'll get another American Werewolf In X Film, the Paris one was Eh so/so but I feel nowadays CGI mixed with good practical effects we could get something pretty damn impressive!
@@pirate_duck4985 the Ginger Snaps films were definitely a welcome addition to the werewolf genre. I was a bit too young to appreciate them when they came out, but I rewatched them recently and understood the concepts way better as an adult. As far as Paris goes, I actually watched that one again two nights ago and came away with these two thoughts. 1. I actually really like the college-buddy aspect of it. Though a tad basic, the story has a few smart comedic bits in it. 2. I think if, using Blender or UE4/5, the werewolf CGI were replaced with models of the London werewolf...it might just make the film better all around. A lot of the imagery is solid, especially in the cemetery, but the sense of dread is lost with the wolf models looking like monkey-lions
@@joevillarreal192 absolutely! They tried way too hard to give them the more human aspects. I get it though, the more human something looks the harder it becomes for humans to find it bad or inevitably kill whatever it may be but they ended up going way too far down that route! The London Werewolf is INCREDIBLE for when it was made! I remember first seeing that transformation when I was WAY too young haha & it was genuinely terrifying because it was essentially a man getting prosthetics added shot by shot. I do think the art of practical effects is becoming lost because "Computers do it better" right!?
@@pirate_duck4985 totally agree! Prime example - 2010's Wolfman. Baker's designs were amazing, but of course Johnston had to go in and do a completely CGI transformation and other digital replacements that weren't necessary. I was so excited for that film, but they ended up relying too much on digital FX to the point the film became hokey. At least, imo
@@joevillarreal192 I'll always have a soft spot for Ginger snaps.. I just always thought they trilogy was fun! Haven't seen them in a long time..but I thought the concept was a little different and enjoyable
just saw this yesterday, it was good, had a nice ''brotherhood of the wolf'' vibe to it, the ending was really weird and kinda caught me from left field, but it was really intersting.
I loved this movie. I was not expecting much from it but I thought the story is presented in a pretty unique way, the acting is great, and the look is beautiful!
Personally, I think this movie could have an awesome sequel in present day. Though, of course sequels are usually worse than the original. Done correctly, a sequel to this could be good.
Also I think Edward turning back into a human was more than just being shot with a Silver Bullet. If that was the case, then they could've melted down any Silver and shot him, but they didn't. The pathologist specifically hunted down the teeth and specifically melted those down to make the bullets. It probably had something to do with using the Silver originally used to start the curse. Or maybe it had to just be the Silver that had been given to Judas.
Who else wouldn't know about half of these horror movies that found flixs reviews if it wasn't 4 his videos! He's definitely put me on 2 a lot of good horror movies and help me avoid a lot of bad ones😭
Fun Fact, Seamus's actor has gone out like that before. He played a doctor in amc's The Terror and committed the exact same suicide by fire method in that series.
I liked it a lot. Was definitely worth the ticket price. There are some excellent videos on here about the beast of Gevaudan. The best one is on it is by a channel called NightDocs. Also another movie that uses this as its base is Brotherhood of the Wolf.
There is a folklore association where you are, allegedly, able to find the cure for poison in the same area as the poison. So, for example, if you find aconite then, in close proximity, you would expect to find a plant acting as an antidote. Take the cursed thing, melt it down (and exorcise it by flame) and create a blessed object to counteract the curse
I stumbled across this movie called Braid which came out in 2018 I believe and you should cover it! It has a major plot twist in the last minutes and honestly I’m kind of confused about it! I’m such a baby with horror but I love your channel so much! I can still be in the loop without getting as scared. ❤️
I enjoyed this movie! It felt like a fresh take on the werewolf story, and it didn't rely too heavily on jumpscares. I do wonder if it was not just the silver bullet, but the mothers sacrifice that appeased the curse.
24:00. The chaos of the bloody werewolf attack of the townspeople in the church is probably referenced in the flashback which might highlight "war is hell" concept.
I've a weakness for "The Company of Wolves" because of the creative take on fairy tales. I like 'Dog Soldiers' even though no one agrees with me on my interpretation of it. I do like "American Werewolf in London"...it is one of the few scary films that I was more creeped out on the second viewing (great soundtrack). I haven't seen "The Cursed"...is it another of those films that is so dark that one can't see what is going on? I'm pretty tired of that as a technique.
Actually it's not too much dark that you can't understand what's going on, in fact if you're okay with a mild spoiler: You can have glimpses of the beast surprisingly well since it also hunts during the day
I heard the original title for the movie was supposed to be "Eight For Silver" 🤷♂️ or something. It was a great take on the werewolf concept. But there were definitely a bunch of dots that never ended up connecting. Like I'm really not sure what the beginning of the movie has to do with....anything?
I think it was to show how the young boy in this movie was able to survive even after how the ending went? Maybe it was to show the audience what was to come with the “sliver bullet” 🤷🏽♂️
@@leonardohenrique5172 ngl though...my initial thought was that it was the same war the pathologist was referring to when he was talking about his experience. I mean it didn't have any context to follow through until the very end 🤷♂️
If I understand this movie correctly, it ACTUALLY has a human on the inside and a permanent werewolf "outer skin". An interesting variation on werewolf lore, for sure.
Looks like a good movie. My fav Werewolf movie is The Wolfman with Benicio del Toro. But my fav performance has got to be the "wolf man" in Monster Squad. Almost every monster in that movie is spot on.
Wow what a coincidence, I watched this film last night! It was a good watch, bit of a slow burn but could tell the writer/ director was heavily influenced by the thing which I really appreciated. The ending was a bit of a let down but overall a solid movie 7/10
Nice breakdown of the movie! I appreciate that the video was mainly focused on your voice while being supported by images from the movie rather than showing long clips from the movie. If you're interested in a horror type then i'd recommend Puppet Master. It's an older movie series involving doll-like figurines.
I love all your videos here at FoundFlix. Just wanted to comment and say that it's really messed up that the only things Romani people are known for are negative things like "gypsy magic/curses" and such.
I don’t know. From Esmeralda to Jenny Calendar I feel like gypsies or Romani people have been portrayed decent enough. At least they get magic or beauty. Usually both unless it’s horror lol
Nope. LOTS of cultures have similar stories of curses and a version of their own type of magic, which can be positive as well, like for example bringing rains to a drought-stricken land, boosting fertility, astrology, etc. For example - European fairy tales had a mix of good and bad magic, and clearly showed the use of magic sometimes as a plus if used by people who weren't driven by greed or self interest, while those who were usually had those bad habits met with a bad end or suffered from bad karma in the process. If you are going use the point of roaming travelers being known for magic/curses as being negative, you have to look at various fairy tales and apply the same consistent logic there. Also, it depends on your perspective. A curse might seem negative to a person that receives it, but the person casting it might have a good reason for doing it, like for protection or for driving evil from a place, like this movie clearly illustrates. :/
I don't know about movies but lemme tell you, Teen Wolf will always have a special place in my heart. That kitsune arc was 😚👌❤. Can't wait to rewatch it
I think the only part that really bugged me with this movie was the scene with the maid being attacked and her hiding that fact. Firstly, I thought it silly that she decided to pull down laundry alone, knowing that there's a dangerous beast lurking around, so dangerous in fact that there's a large mob of people hunting it down. Probably would be smart to do outdoor chores with other people and some form of protection, but this could just be chalked up as a poor character trait. Secondly, it didn't make sense for her to hide the fact that she'd been attacked. From the scene in the building with the beast, it seemed pretty obvious to me that they were hiding the fact that someone being attacked by the beast would be turned into a beast as well. So for what reason would the maid have to hide the fact that she was attacked? Anyways, I just felt like that part was forced so that she could turn inside the house and attack the father because reasons, instead of being natural.
To be fair it’s pretty human not wanting to admit to being infected. Especially since she knew if she told them she’d probably be killed. As for why she was doing laundry alone, no excuse except maybe she thought that the men would handle it and there was no way she would be attacked lol
@@jammindragon1812 But like I said, there was no indication that she knew she was infected. From the scene in the shed, it appeared that they were keeping quiet about it. Being infected wasn't common knowledge.
@@eirmundgundnand9442 At first we can assume that she was just trying to fix herself up since she was wounded. But the infection kinda happnes fast. Give it a few minutes and you're alreadey feeling somethig. She was already pale when the father came back to his manor, and she felt extreme pain in her body. I believe she knew something was wrong and decided not to tell. Anyway I just thought it was weird of her to go out and do laundry during a time like that.
@@eirmundgundnand9442 As I mentioned she "felt" something was wrong with her body after the attack. There is no other explanation than the bites/scratches she got from it.
I enjoyed this film quite a bit. I normally have trouble getting invested in these slow-burn, atmospheric period-piece horror films, but the lead actor (Boyd Holbrook, _Logan, the Predator)_ that plays John, the pathologist, who's investigating the murders is a true chameleon, whose acting range shines through in this film, & was enough to keep me engaged. I usually don't find the drab cinematography that plagues every dark period film like this visually appealing, but the atmosphere in this was perfectly suited for this film, & although it wasn't quite as well done, it gave me similar vibes to Robert Eggars _The Witch._ The thing i enjoyed most about the film though was the creature/werewolf design. I've never seen Lycans depicted like they are in this, & they are truly horrifying here. *Spoiler Alert* The autopsy sequence was truly disturbing in the best way possible. Anyone else get _Pumpkin Head_ vibes from the creatures in this? Because I thought that this would serve as a fantastic prequel for that film, even if unintentionally. I'd recommend this film for that scene alone.
I don't think its related to werewolves more another supernatural creature alltogether, the only things it share with werewolves is the body transformation but its not only on full moon and the silver weakness but silver was always seen as a 'holy" metal and is the weakness of a lot of supernatural things related to christianism. Its refreshing to see something that is not about vampire or werewolves for once!
Yes! And another observation that I had is that the creature was out doing the day as well.. being that the ones who are bitten are “cursed” you’ll think that they’ll have to change under the full moon which isn’t the case in this film!
Many consider Silver to be cursed by God, so it is an unholy metal, cursed by a divine being to sear the unholy with. The connection to Judas gives credence to Silver being a cursed material, Silver exchanged for a life... Note that gold wasn't just a sign of wealth but also was used to revere gods with. Silver generally isn't used to revere a god with unless they are a lesser god or demigod who has less than 'holy' powers in their pantheon.
My favorite werewolf flick - well, two are "The Brotherhood of the Wolf" (for visuals alone), and "Blood & Chocolate". I would love to see your review of either.
I really like that this movie touches on gypsy oppression. It’s something that doesn’t get a lot of attention the same way that Black & White r*cism does. The same with the Irish who also faced a lot of oppression but isn’t known about by a lot of people nowadays
Because black people are indigenous to America. And also I don’t think their was a people who’ve been disenfranchised in their own land like the Indians aka black people of America .

This looks like it'd be quite good! Personally, my favourite werewolf film is Dog Soldiers - great movie 👍 I love how spindly the werewolves are in it - much more reedy/sinewy than in most other depictions. Plus Sean Pertwee and Liam Cunningham are fucking _awesome_ in it!
Watched the movie about a week ago, enjoyed it. Except from the ending church scene, like why would she open the door. But then again, ig it's the agony of a mother. Still give it a 7/10
Small nitpick here At 1:35 (I am not sure if that was irony I got a feeling it was). So in case it was: Gasmasks, as far as I know, didnt always work as both sides, naturally, were interested in producing more deadly gas that could bypass the enemies gasmasks. So while they helped, they didnt always protected u 100%.
My favorite werewolf movie is actually Wer. A bit of a weird movie that's half horror half police drama but they give a somewhat plausible explanation for lycanthropy!
I'm curious, was that bullet staying in Edward the cure, or was him being shot by it enough? If he had survived that surgery would he have turned back into a werewolf since the bullet was no longer inside him? Just a thought
Also I assume that the fact that he got "cured" stoped the curse from spreading? Cause he bit a lot of people in that church, we don't know if all of them died
American Werewolf in London is definitely a favorite werewolf movie, but I have a soft spot for Silver Bullet, so it takes the number 1 spot. Dog Soldiers and Bad Moon are two lower budget werewolf films that I really enjoyed.
“ John admits he won’t know for sure until they…” me: install cameras! “ set up a hunting ground to catch the beast” *suddenly remembers this is a time piece
I watched the movie just yesterday and really liked it. The first time I saw the Werewolf in it's full glory I was a little disgusted. It was something different from what I was expecting.
This is really set up for a sequel about staring the girl taking up the mantle AND a prequel about how it all started going from Judas coins to teeth, etc. Love to know more about the lore of that story.
Hey FoundFlix! Just a heads up that g*psy is commonly viewed as a slur for Romani/Travelers--it's typically used by outsiders to refer pejoratively to the group, and often not how the group refers to itself. Even if the film uses the term, commentary on the film can still choose more respectful language. Love your work! Thanks for the great summary. ❤
Thank you so much for pointing that out. Also pretty tiresome is the “Romani curse” trope. Same with the “people with DID have an uncontrollable evil side” bs. Both groups have historically been victimized - and yet Hollywood continues to portray them as victimizers and murderers. I’m pretty sick of the cheap cop-out plot lines. No respect for movies that are based on them.
‘The case study of Vanitas’ anybody? I had never heard of the beast of gevaudan until recently and now I’ve seen an interpretation of it both here and in ‘the case study of Vanitas’ in the last month! Loved both takes on the real life event!
Reminds me of the German legend of the Morbach monster. A mercenary kills a gypsy who curses him at the last Second, which cause the man to turn into a werewolf. After raping a child, the man was chased out in a mob and killed. They buried him in a magic grave, adorned with candles. If all candles are blown out, the werewolf comes back
Love your videos and thank you so much for all the work that must go into them! I was a little disappointed with the use of the word "gypsy" in this one which is considered a racial slur now and not the correct nomenclature (no matter how the Romani/Roma are referred to in the movie). I just wanted to point that out for future reference!
I been rocking with you for a while and you never fail me, if you haven't can you cover the leprechaun series? I feel like they may be slightly under loved and not enjoyed as cheesy slasher films
So I've still yet to encounter a werewolf movie that tops dog soldiers, but this was surprisingly awesome. Still won't knock the crown off the king, but dope ideas nonetheless
So the guy that lights himself on fire towards the end of the movie, is the same guy that lights himself on fire in the series "The Terror" (the first season)...AND...the beast from this movie, resembles the beast in that series. And they are both beasts born from a sense of revenge for killing a group of people. I wonder if anyone from the series was involved in the writing/directing of this movie?
I truly enjoyed this movie, it was a very different take on the werewolf lore and the fact that it was a curse brought upon a village by gypsies. Gotta love those gypsies, best never to cross them or betray them. Unlike other werewolf movies, this one definitely stands alone on its own. The only other werewolf movie I also enjoyed was The Wolfman with Benecio Del Toro, Emily Blunt, and Sir Anthony Hopkins which came out back in 2010.
But....gypsies aren't original in concept. Literally since the original Wolfman gypsies and their curses have be prevalent. The judas silver has also been done before.
I loved the story and visuals of this film, but I didn’t enjoy how short and fast paced it felt. It should have spent a bigger chunk characterizing and familiarizing the audience with the family and the pathologist before launching us into the thick of it. It’s hard to get invested in characters we know nothing about. That all aside, i really enjoyed this depiction of werewolves, or rugarous if you’re nasty. Very unique and refreshing
Horrifying. Can you imagine how scary it'd be if France was real

Oh absolutely
To add on to AWIL, “Dog Soldiers” did well with a modern day setting with werewolves. Especially the isolation aspect.
The autopsy scene in this movie is one of the single coolest and most creative ideas I've seen in a horror movie since John Carpenter's 'The Thing'. The idea that the victim becomes "cocooned" inside the beast as part of the curse, and emerges when it's killed is just... - chef's kiss -
Hats off to who ever came up with that idea.
I concur 👏🏿
That’s actually part of some werewolf mythology! In one story, a rich woman was married to the towns leader, and she was cursed to be a werewolf, so her husband tried to hide her true nature, eventually the town killed her in her wolf form, dragging the body into the town to her husbands horror, they skin the wolf only to reveal her inside, there’s other stories where something similar happens.
Its very "Attack on Titan"
I love this movie don’t get me wrong, but I find it tough that she died that way because there was nothing they could do but the boy was a werewolf a lot longer, and was able to live
@@This_guy97Its because they shot the boy with a silver bullet
I LOVED THIS FILM. There’s so many takes on Christianity and how his son isn’t returned until the curse is over cause “THE SINS OF THE FATHER ARE NOT OF THE SON” I loved it so much. So many connections. It’s really a great film.

Imagine being french
Oh...Brotherhood of the Wolf are one of movies I have in my dvd collection. I really liked that movie and after watching a episode from Watcher´s puppet history I also found out about the myth it was based on.
That movie also inspired part of the design of Bloodborne
I hated Brotherhood of the wolf, it was awful.
Brother Hood of the Wolf? Did that have Martial Arts guy Mark DeCascos in it?
I really like the premise here. The silver coins Judas got for betraying Jesus worked as a sort of anti-Holy Grail artifact. Though it does raise the question of how the coins originally got cast into the form of silver teeth or why. I think the way the curse started could have been a bit better though. Instead of some rich landowners being greedy, some kind of betrayal would have been more fitting. Perhaps the Englishmen breaking some kind of agreement or something like that would help lean into the betrayal angle better.
They use the same back story in Dracula 2000, Judas Iscariot becomes the vampire
Early in the film we see the blacksmith melting down silver coins and casting them into teeth
@@KumaoftheForest Yeah, I think FF got it wrong there when he said that the blacksmith melted them into bullets. The first time, they were melted into teeth and etched. At the end of the film, the teeth were melted into bullets.
I really like you.
Like a silver bullet piercing through! I pull myself into you
It's not that deep bro... 😐😐😐
It wasn't a killing shot for the boy.
The silver bullet keept him from being affected, it didn't cure him.
There's a chance that he turned back into the werewolf the night of the day that the bullet was removed.

According to witness statements, the beast of Gevaudan was likely an escaped tiger! It was described as a lone stealth hunter that had stripes and a white belly, though it was described as wolflike by witnesses for lack of a better word, very cool reference on the movie's part
I heard speculation that it was some kind of hybrid.
i've done a fair amount of research on the beast, and never seen mention of stripes and a white underbelly.

Or like you said; it sensed the silver and easier prey elsewhere
in the film when he gets to the church he said he survived because they feared the silver

@@brentwillems1316 that sounds too cheesy and over budget

The silver of Judas....started the curse....thats how the curse started. So yes, it's both.

I do like how the teeth was both the reason for the curse and the "antidote" for the curse since they came from the gypsy woman.

I love all your videos here at FoundFlix. Just wanted to comment and say that it's really messed up that the only things Romani people are known for are negative things like "gypsy magic/curses" and such.
There were those awful TLC shows that added a whole slew of additional kinds of ugly stereotypes to the mix, as well 😔
@@Cog_Nomen ugh yeah. TLC makes some really shitty shows about people in general.
I don’t know. From Esmeralda to Jenny Calendar I feel like gypsies or Romani people have been portrayed decent enough. At least they get magic or beauty. Usually both unless it’s horror lol
I would also put thievery and being generally despised in most countries unless those aren't real gypsies 🤷♂️

That's a pretty cool Gothic take on it. However, "Brotherhood of the Wolf" is still my favorite "beast" film.
I usually don't find the drab cinematography that plagues every dark period film like this visually appealing, but the atmosphere in this was perfectly suited for this film, & although it wasn't quite as well done, it gave me similar vibes to Robert Eggars _The Witch._
The thing i enjoyed most about the film though was the creature/werewolf design. I've never seen Lycans depicted like they are in this, & they are truly horrifying here.
*Spoiler Alert*
The autopsy sequence was truly disturbing in the best way possible.

@@majiecorleon3454 Black Americans are of African origin, not indigenous. Native Americans are… Native. Not black.
@@YodaOnABender I never said native… natives are immigrants bro sorry to break it to you. American history is black and white. Immigration came way later. And if you don’t believe me I’ll drop primary sources too.
@@ilz_y native Americans are immigrants like you. And literally by definition a native means just to be born in a place so try again… it’s funny that foreigners like you try to tell me American history when your family haven’t even been here long enough to hold this conversation with me 😂😂 try again bro. And btw google negro de terra 😎🤷🏾♂️✌🏽
I think it would be fun if on the next April fools, foundflix did a comedy movie for ending explained
Watched the movie about a week ago, enjoyed it.
Except from the ending church scene, like why would she open the door.
But then again, ig it's the agony of a mother.
Still give it a 7/10
Small nitpick here
At 1:35 (I am not sure if that was irony I got a feeling it was). So in case it was: Gasmasks, as far as I know, didnt always work as both sides, naturally, were interested in producing more deadly gas that could bypass the enemies gasmasks. So while they helped, they didnt always protected u 100%.
Ok cinamasins lol
I was waiting for grown up Ed to change back once the silver bullet was removed!
My favorite werewolf movie is actually Wer. A bit of a weird movie that's half horror half police drama but they give a somewhat plausible explanation for lycanthropy!
Could have been a great cliffhanger if that silver bullet was acting like a seal on the creature and by the doctor removing it, Ed transformed again.
So happy you did this review. Loved this movie! Great review!
The dad guy killed himself by fire in The Terror too. That too had a weird human faced animal attacking people.
I'm curious, was that bullet staying in Edward the cure, or was him being shot by it enough? If he had survived that surgery would he have turned back into a werewolf since the bullet was no longer inside him? Just a thought
exactky what i pondered when i left the theater
I'm wondering this as well. Like if they do sequel is he gonna come back to life to turn back into a werewolf and create more?
Also I assume that the fact that he got "cured" stoped the curse from spreading? Cause he bit a lot of people in that church, we don't know if all of them died
American Werewolf in London is definitely a favorite werewolf movie, but I have a soft spot for Silver Bullet, so it takes the number 1 spot. Dog Soldiers and Bad Moon are two lower budget werewolf films that I really enjoyed.
“ John admits he won’t know for sure until they…”
me: install cameras!
“ set up a hunting ground to catch the beast”
*suddenly remembers this is a time piece
🤣😂👍🏼
One thing I really love about your channel is that it gives me awesome movies to watch I didn't even know existed! 🤘
❤
Shut up
We still saying gypsy
Thank you so much for pointing that out.
Also pretty tiresome is the “Romani curse” trope.
Same with the “people with DID have an uncontrollable evil side” bs.
Both groups have historically been victimized - and yet Hollywood continues to portray them as victimizers and murderers.
I’m pretty sick of the cheap cop-out plot lines. No respect for movies that are based on them.
seconded!
Gypsy ? Why edit yourself
@@pookispalaceoflove6518 its literally a slur
‘The case study of Vanitas’ anybody?
I had never heard of the beast of gevaudan until recently and now I’ve seen an interpretation of it both here and in ‘the case study of Vanitas’ in the last month!
Loved both takes on the real life event!
I love the way you explain everything . Perfect blend of humor and facts 👍
Reminds me of the German legend of the Morbach monster. A mercenary kills a gypsy who curses him at the last Second, which cause the man to turn into a werewolf. After raping a child, the man was chased out in a mob and killed. They buried him in a magic grave, adorned with candles. If all candles are blown out, the werewolf comes back
loved this one. big fan of werewolves and the way they’re depicted here is super cool!!
I’d thought that after taken the silver out of Edward, he would return to his werewolf form and the silver were the only thing preventing the curse.
I can't believe they actually used Bête du Gévaudan thats so fucking cool and rarely ever brought up in any werewolf tales movies or media
I been rocking with you for a while and you never fail me, if you haven't can you cover the leprechaun series? I feel like they may be slightly under loved and not enjoyed as cheesy slasher films
23:59 he has ptsd and witnessing trauma of the werewolf attacks simply brought back trauma memories of war
I wonder if anyone from the series was involved in the writing/directing of this movie?
love all the content you've been putting out man! keep up the amazing stuff
18:50 What's that noise you made? o-O
American werewolf in London and silver bullet are my favorite werewolf movies!
Love your reviews bro, so simple and yet unique
