I think he reason the title of the episode is "Mercy" is because that's what was holding Eren back from turning into a titan. He was being Merciful towards Annie, deep down he didn't really want to kill her because she was his friend. But by the end of the episode he had to abandon all merciful and humane thoughts and just focus on his anger towards Titans, in order to do what was right.

Good news! The big criticism of season 1 is that there were times where it felt like they dragged bits of the atory unnecessarily (specifically in the second half starting from about the forest chase). From season 2 onwards, that criticiam more or less completely vanishes

13:15 i have never understand people who say "Eren need to have a porpoise a motivation to transform". NO all i see on that show is an Eren Hulk, i think situations that fuel his rage make him transform, the more fuel put on his anger the more strong is his Titan thats why he is unique and never know the level of his true power. Small example is the episode 11 when he try to get the rock and close the hole on wall, the momend he transform he attacks mikasa and all say he have no control of his titan, incorrect, Lets see the events before that happaned on the same episode. He argue with mikasa about her obsesse to be near him and protect him besides the orders she have. Eren was angry with her and say that "i dont need you to watch over me all the time follow your orders." The momend he transform he clearly turn his titan head and look at mikasa near him besides what he tell her to do and then the anger for her drive him to react like this. So is not motive is pure anger and rage that drives him.
There was no rage when he tried to pick up the spoon. And you're right that he attacked Mikasa because he was angry with her, but it also shows how his rage is a detriment. Rage is a motivation for his character, not necessarily his transformation.
@@lucidiously The spoon was a fail not full transformation same for the partial transformation to save mikasa and armin from the cannon shoot at the first episodes and many other times who has got the motivation and almost brake his hand from bites but still anable to transform because motivation and right cause only is not enough on eren, never help him, he must allways find a reazon to get angry.. You don't convince me man, sorry but i will stay on my theory..
I highly request for you to watch Frieren: Beyond the Journey next after this AOT series... You'll totally love it, coz unlike any other animes, it does have fight scenes but the whole theme is really calm and nostalic. I swear.. ❤❤❤
