This VA really makes Levi pop so hard in AoT, just so cool and aggro all the time, totally catches his demeanor perfectly when he's insanely serious and random little subtle humor moments with his quirkiness. Yes! I've been so excited for this reaction! It's all the best bits of AoT with the best character as the focus. It's both beautiful and brutal. I think Eren reminds Levi of Isabel at times, they have similar eyes and share the wish for freedom. Eren is a darker, slightly unhinged version though due to his childhood trauma that gave rise to an all-encompassing hatred of titans.
I've watched this OVA so many times, and I still can't help tearing up the moment I hear Levi's rage and dispair when killing the aberrant. It just breaks my heart 💔

You might not recognize the character you said “I don’t know if I trust this commander” about but that was Keith Shadis. He was the commander that trained the soldiers before they chose a branch. He had gone bald by then, but he was yelling a lot in episode 3 when everyone was lined up.
He said the same thing to Eren when he wanted to transform against the female titan, trust your comrades or trust yourself, just make sure to not regret your choice.
This is one where I'm not sure I have a favorite version between the manga this OVA was based on and the OVA. At least when it comes to the end and death of Isabel and Furlan. Biggest change is that it was a group of titans that ambushed the squad rather than 1 abnormal. Isabel died trying to save Furlan after his horse fell on his leg. With the heavy rain, she slipped on the back on one titan, hit her head, and was dazed when a 2nd launched itself into her/the back of the titan she was on (Levi still only found her head). Furlan ended up freeing himself, but his equipment was damaged. Flagon (the sqaud leader) tried to buy Furlan time to retreat but got grabbed and killed. At this point Levi was actually withing eyesight and watched Furlan get picked up, Furlan saw him and waved at him (like he used to do underground) as he was getting put into the titan's mouth. Levi was maybe 5-10 seconds away from getting there in time, and in desperation actually sliced open the stomach of the titan and pulled Furlan out, but at that point the titan had already bit him in half before swallowing so he only got the top half of him (as the OVA references this by having the titan spit out half of him). I think both the manga and OVA do a good job for the scene, but they display different emotions for Levi. The OVA he finds them dead already and just snaps in rage and sadness. At any point he could've killed that titan, but he was out for blood/revenge. In the manga he is in pure desperation mode, being able to see the squad getting killed but is too far away to help until it's too late.
What Erwin said to Levi in the end about not regretting no matter what decision you take, if not, it will dull your next one and in the end become a slave to the person taking the decision for you ... and proves it literally after by him looking emotionless at the dead body of his comrade

AOT ovas are always great. They either develop characters (in Lost girls Mikasa and Annie, the other first season ovas developed Jean and the main crew's relationship) or they give us clues to push the narrative forward (Lost girls and Ilse's Notebook).
