I dont care if you like Milwaukee or not they have my respect as a company. You test and review there tools hard and give a honest review if its junk you say its junk and for a company to send you a tool knowing what you will put it through speaks a lot for them

Drill- Packedge in typical box, came with a tool bag (added bonus), two batteries, one charger, drill, and driver. Two words "plenty of Torque" th-cam.com/users/postUgkxW1vOBRCMrgTCDEijzpVzDWsgI-Jm2iQv well I guess that's three. Nice upgrade from current setup. Has belt clips, I don't think I will be using those. Driver and drill were bigger than what I expected but it is an upgrade from the current setup. For the money I would say that this is a great setup for Professionals and DIY/Weekend warriors.
I work in underground mining and I use Milwaukee tools every single day. I’ve changed so many big tires over the the last 20 years I couldn’t count them all but I will say that Milwaukee has made tire changing so much easier in every aspect. To be able to take that kind of power with you anywhere and be able to use it instantly when you get to where you’re going without having to find somewhere to get compressed air and set up hoses is a god send. A lot of times we hand wrenched wheels off because their wasn’t air available in parts on the mine and these guns were not available. With my 3/4 gun and a 12 ah battery with cleanish studs I can remove and torque 100 wheel nuts on a single charge and that’s just remarkable. Our 50 ton rock trucks have 50 wheel nuts per wheel and they’re torqued too 500 ft/lbs. I changed a tire on a 9 yard scoop tram 2 days ago with 30 nuts a 9 ah battery torqued to 480 ft/lbs and had 2 bars battery life left when finished. They really do make awesome tools. They have saved me sooo much effort I can’t say enough good about them. Thanks for the video Rich.

They make a cordless hydraulic powerpac that pumps out 10k psi just get a ram cylinder from enerpac.

It might not be as strong as the OG air impact but if you’re old enough to remember just how bad battery powered tools were 10, 15, 20 years ago- you have to admit the technology has come along way and that’s impressive.

Lithium batteries have completely changed the game. And there's new battery tech in the making that could give the same increase in performance we see with lithium.

I'm impressed that it exists but air doesn't kick back that much either so it's easier on your body overall. I do like my 1/2" battery though.

Absolutely worth it. It auto torques the wheels to the correct specs in one shot. For fleet and side work like me, that is KING to own.

Youre not wrong. The milwaukee high torque impacts wear the clam shells down and battery clips eventually. I'd like to see this "isolator" updated into all the impact models..

No one mentioned if this gun is water resistant? It is going to be used on the roadside in all weather conditions so how long with it last compared to air tools? I know if my air gun gets wet It just keeps on trucking. When electric gets wet..
I did roadside service calls for a few years, that gun is impressive.
Even if it only got 90% of the tires off, you would save so much time on those 90%, that the 10% you have to use the air for probably wouldn't bother you as much. Except for when the boss complains that the call took you longer than it should have.
@@dafirnz there is another little handy tool I keep in my tool box for those stubborn ones that won't come off. It's a hand crank torque multiplier. Put it on. Hand crank the nut until it pops (yes i know) once its been cracked. The gun will take care of the rest. So you can actually get away with only the battery gun. No air needed.

I have a 3/4“ drive Milwaukee and it was the best $500.00 spent. The first time I used in the Yukon to change a flat tire it paid for itself. I could cross rotate my drives on a tandem axle tractor with one 4.0ah battery. I torque my lug nuts oil the nur and stud when putting them on.
I've got the 1/2" high torque one-key and completely agree. I programmed a setting for aftertightening, and that thing saved my back alot of pain over the last couple of years!
I think it would be cool if something like this has a duel battery. With a switch to change them to run parallel or in Series.

No reason why you couldn't wire the le batteria's together in a box with cord plugged into the Duga duga.

The pneumatic 1 inch impacts weigh around 35lbs-40lbs where the Milwaukee impact weighs about 13lbs.

I think if I am doing a road call and have to drag out an air jack to lift up the truck or trailer any how.... I'll use an air gun. Now if its an outside dual on a bud wheel and you could drive the inner dual up on a block and pull just the outer... maybe, but let's be honest, if its colder than a well diggers as$ outside you can bet it will be a trailer with dayton wheels, an inside dual and the spacer ring froze solid to the hub ;)

True. Also, people tend to ferget that batteries already have 5-10 times the energy capacity compared to 20 years ago. We used to have 12V 1.5Ah Ni-Cad batteries in the old makita drills, that's 18 watt-hours. Now we have 18V 8Ah of the same size, that's 144 watt-hors...
What's a corded power tool?
You can already get more wattage from these 18V batteries than you can from a normal 120V socket on a household 20A breaker.
20amps x 120 volts= 2400 watts. Tell me what cordless tool runs anywhere close to 2400 watts.
For two summers I did large equipment repair, mostly final drive replacements in the landfill on the steel wheeled dozers used to push trash into the open pits.
You have a completely different set of heavy duty tools, as in you didn't use 1" drive but #5 spline. A 1" anvil would be worn out in less than a month when the fasteners got final torque to over 1200 ft/lbs. Rusted in place, you'd spend the better part of the day removing the 48 fasteners.
I still have both of my big impact, one a CP and the other an IR. Don't miss that job one bit.

I would like to add a PS: I am a on site tech and have gone through numerous power grease guns including a Dewalt and they have all eventually failed within a year or less, I currently have a Milwaukee grease gun and it has far outlasted the others.

I watch the Torque Test Channel occasionally and one of the questions I've had is where are the super high torque devices used. This video provided a good answer for that. Thank you. I realize now that heavy duty earth moving equipment is another place.

I have a 1/2" air hose laying on my deck with a quick coupler to the tanks already on board though. The air does the same thing with a lot less kickback and can run the 20T bottle jack too.
And I can't fill a tire with electricity.
One thing I will tell you is that when it is cold these tools fail to perform in the slightest. As a NEW service truck operator coming from a shop I went to fort McMurray in the winter and it was -45°C without windchill. When I got to the sight I pulled my batteries from the cab and within 15 minutes while being used on, and off they froze up, like batteries will do. After that they were useless and had to move to hand tools. Tire that blew also took out tail light and it was so cold the rubber grommet shattered when I tried to take the last of the light out. It was crazy cold out but just so everyone knows. Don't get them cold.
Never thought I'd see a man busting back to back nuts and smile, one hell of a piece of engineering, especially considering how fast they've improved. I remember when electric was so far behind you couldn't use them for hardly anything, I can't wait to see the v2 of this

I think the changing sound of the gun is the wrist protection kickin' in, limiting the output.
I was wondering about that noise change. Would it help to just hold it with a tighter grip and prevent the gun from flailing around as much? Seems like that would be a better use of the impact energy anyways as well.
I think the gun’s less weight actually hinders the reversing torque output. See how little the air gun moves it’s probably 5lbs or maybe more heavier. Maybe the anvil is larger too.
@@WalmartBiker I think the Airgun has a counter weight, to avoid too heavy vibrations. But that's just a guess.

Ruben Kelevra sure it’s technically a counterweight. All impact guns need a higher “counterweight” to produce more forceful impacts. More weight = higher moment of inertia. That then correlated to more force traveling to the anvil of the impact gun.
I just hope that isolator is thoroughly designed and robust so that the isolator itself doesn't eventually fatigue and fail
I'm guessing it's built in and can't be put into previous models, not as they were horrible with it but there is still some battery slop in them
I would use that gun for roadservice all day!!! You are never going to find such rusted nuts on the trucks that still drive around, so that gun will do awesome. Like you said, no airline, no compressor, quick on and off and those trucks are on their way...
Pretty cool ! I use a Milwaukee impact everyday with a 1/2" quick Chuck and a Rigid 1/2" side by side. Haven't ran an air hose for an impact in a year. Thanks Rich

@@jdrok5026 - Stalling an electric impact gun doesn't hurt it at all, the motor is still turning. Stalling an electric drill or saw, anything that the motor actually stops is a different story.
It might be interesting to start with another fresh battery, on a cold gun, and lube *all* the threads. If you were working roadside, and had one of these tools on hand, there's a *very* good chance you'd have some lube available too. Also, you would *hope* that most vehicles on the road would have at least slightly better maintained studs.

I really like my Milwaukee battery tools. I don't have a use for something that size...yet but its impressive!
There's always going to be situations where the air gun is the tool you use day to day like in the rust belt as you said, but for the majority of the world that Milwaukee is a beast of a tool.
I think it would be great for working in the mines. Can't always get the truck in there for air. Plus no line to drag through the mud so less mess. Was a little disappointed in the performance. Was very impressed with the batteries. Milwaukee sure knows how to do wonders with the 18650 cells. Overall impressed certainly nothing else on the market that could do it unless HILTI makes one I don't know about lol.
I have a ton of the m12 tools and i love it i know that it's not going to work for everthing but i have been happy with what i have used it for
How accurate is that final torque. Would be interesting to see if it finishes between 425 and 475.
Ram_Diesel_Power it doesn’t matter about the final torque, the key is guys on the road all use air gun with direct line 150psi so the Milwaukee gun will have a hard time to pull wheels off. It’s good to have one but still have to carry an air gun.

I own my semi truck. And use the Milwaukee 3/4 cordless and the 3/8. I carry them with me all the time. Love them. I'm glad that they are coming up with new stuff.
Solution for battery vibration.= plug in with extension cables to the battery. So that battery is not attached to the machine but sits on the floor

Down in Georgia (or at least the shop I’m at during the summers):
Spokes: Dayton Wheels
Stud Piloted: Bud wheels
Hub Piloted: Uni-Lug wheels
I have the first generation 1" Milwaukee impact without the long anvil, and with a M18 Fuel HD12.0 battery, I have zero issues with busting 33mm nuts off. Nothing will ever replace an air-driven 1" impact tool but in a pinch and without access to air compressor, these battery operated impacts will work, it just takes slightly more time. Continued use of these battery operated Milwaukee impacts in quick succession will generate a lot of heat from the socket all the way to the battery, and hearing protection is mandatory as they are very loud. As for rusted and over-torqued wheel nuts, what you see in video is what to expect. Battery operated impacts will not budge them. I am an owner-operator trucker and do most my own maintenance on truck and trailer. I own every size Milwaukee battery operated impact they make.
The great aspect to this tool is that it ready for a quick change no setup. Just slap a battery in put on a socket and get to it. The air tool can always be used if needed as a backup.
I was exited and ran out to buy the first 1" fuel impact, and needless to say i was beyond disappointed, while we do live in the salt belt, the 1" milwaukee just couldnt hang, killed batteries from vibration/load (which gets beyond expensive really fast), and it just sits on the shelf these days. I never expected it to do what the pneumatic could, but its sad when it was literally NO stronger than the 1/2" fuel. so yeah basically if my 1/2" gun couldnt do it, the 1" gun was pointless as well. I think i'll just hang a few more years for them to keep working on it and refining it. FYI i'm in truck transport. so wheels and driveshaft yokes are the big thing with the big guns. The only way i'd change my mind is if they did tool trade-ins and would let me trade the first 1" impact in for a reduction on this gun (which does seem like a massive improvement)
Did you blue tooth it to your phone and turn the gun all the way up i had to mess with the settings on my 3/4 and it will break the studs my friends 1" is the same now that I set it properly

@@DEBOSSGARAGE I have had my doubts about Milwaukee after it was bought out By Techtronic ( who also owns AEG ) and most of the production was sent over seas , but lately I am getting more faith with them after seeing stuff like this and talking to people , but I always will stay red verses yellow , Keep up the real world testing , now for the leave it on the top of the side box and drive away test .. one of the things I like is they make a in vehicle charger so you can charge and drive , so you always have a fresh battery pack available ( unless a co worker swipes your spare )
Absolutely worth it. It's all about the right tool for the right job. that thing will save you a ton of time doing roadside work and is a lot less stressful to hold and work with because its so much lighter.
I'm a huge Milwaukee fan. I use the 3/8 stubby M12 daily as a heavy equipment mechanic. I love it. When that's not enough I use the 1/2 Milwaukee. And if it's stupid tight I use the air only because I don't care if I beat on it until it blows up.
I bought the 1/2 and 3/8 Milwaukee because of this channel. Now i only use them and don't use any of my air impacts
Soon to be the same thing for me. Doesnt make sense spending $2000 for a compressor, gun, air lines, etc when I can spend $550 on an impact+high output battery and charger that will put the air tools to bed.

The 1 inch air impact defenitly takes them off faster and out performed the Milwaukee but Milwaukee doing very well very impressed @Deboss Garage

I've had the 1" pistol grip Milwaukee for about a year now and my experience with that is what you seem to have found here, it's light about half the weight of my IR pistol grip easy to use and no air hose. However dose not have the power of the air. I usually go for my Milwaukee 1" pistol grip first over the air but always manage to find something it won't do, then have to resort to the air gun that always puts out the needed power. With my 2 pistol grip guns and judging from the sound in your video here I think the main reason the Milwaukee guns are not as powerful is they hit so much faster than the air guns. The slower harder hits of the air guns seem to be much more effective than the faster yet lighter hits of the Milwaukee guns.
Milwaukee seems to focus too much on how light or stylish a tool is instead of out performing what it's suposto replace. In a tool like this we don't need cool looks or fancy features just give us brute power to get the job done! That being said its amazing how good cordless tools are these days, I never thought a cordless 9" angle grinder would be possible just a few years ago and now I own 2 of the Milwaukee ones and a mag drill.
I'm glad you posted this video because I'm Gona wait for Milwaukee to come out with a more powerful version before buying one of thease.

In my opinion they should built this impact on their MX platform. Im sure it could outperform the air one with the higher voltage and without the battery shaking around like this. Yes they insulated the battery with a piece of rubber but that still gonna take out the contact over time plus having the contact moving around like this while using it may weaken the power. Its like trying to start your car with the battery connection loose. Something its all it take to make your car not starting. In general i think it did great but not enough to make me buy one. I think they had the potential to do better. They should work on it a little bit more.
the contacts themselves are rigidly held in a plastic piece that is isolated from the gun and clipped into the battery. So the contacts move with the battery. (and then its just flexible stranded wire from the contacts to the circuit board)
I would say that after 20 years the rubber will get old and cracked but with silicon rubbers these days that doesn't happen anymore. I would like to assume milwaukee picked one that won't degrade for such a small but vital part of the gun.
You eventually come to lower returns after a point the mx motors are likely bigger and are built for the extra power.
I think the most important part to remember is one of your last words : "YET".
Even if this one has some shortcomings, it WILL get even better. Personnally I would ask for one immediately if I had to do this kind of work. It would be immensely beneficial, and you still have the air gun or a long bar as a backup for the eventual stubborn ones.
It's amazing how far electric tools have come in such a short time. I have a somewhat older Makita drill that overheats and starts smoking after about 10 minutes of drilling through steel, and a 1/2" impact that is gutless as hell and runs through a battery in about 2 minutes.
I really could have used this electric 1 inch when I was a truck mechanic. I remember going on road calls with an old, shitty 1 inch impact and a gas powered air compressor on the back of the service truck. I would get maybe one nut off before I had to wait for it to air up again. It took forever.

I love my Milwaukee 1/2 high torque impact. It's almost too powerful - I had to bump it down a notch when I was pulling junkyard wheels because it kept rounding off lug nuts!

You don't need these fancy tools & expensive batteries or loud, dirty compressors...
Get to know what 450ft-lbs actually FEELS like....an 8" adjustable wrench is all you will ever need to do this kind of work.
A pair of channies is all I need torqued to 450 easy
Mfers do not know how to use a needle nose.
We have the half inch one that will most of the time take tires off semi trucks and trailers but I've got my dad convinced to get this one as well! Sometimes we have to use his Chicago pneumatic which has the long shank like that one. Can't wait to get it !

My wrecker is a '98 4700. Hurt me to see it being pulled away to god knows what kind of fate. The bullnose corn binders were built WAAAAY better & much less complicated than the following generation. So much less to go wrong & so easy to repair if it does. You couldn't give me anything Navistar has put out over the last 15 years. Even their cab electronics are so over-the-top. Trucks are NOT cars!!!

Tungsten might be hard but it is brittle and would shatter into a million pieces

Dad has got a torque multiplier on. Puts bolts and nuts up to 3,200 foot pounds. It’s pretty neat. All you have to do is input like 170 foot pounds of torque and it’ll put down 3,000 foot pounds. It’s made by Proto. Also have a couple Neiko torque multipliers. 3/4 and 1”. Technology is awesome.
I've had the Milwaukee ½ mid-torque and high torque for a while and I love them. Hearing that air gun felt like hearing a muscle car compared to a Civic and it got me all tingly inside.
But overall I do prefer the electric guns and my Nitrocat hasn't come out of my box in a long time now.
So Rich did you pay retail price for this impact or did they give it to you?

Awesome video. I picked up the 3/4 but the D Handle is next on my list. I work on Transit Buses and I do quite a variety of work including Tire, Brake, and suspension work. So excited to not have to lug a giant air hose anymore 🙂
Great test. Convince me beyond a shadow of a doubt that there is no substitute for pneumatic tools. And yes I can often be found dragging 200 feet of air hose across the yard. Much rather do that the mess around with an electric impact that's that won't do the job.

That would be a good idea for a owner op. Easy to keep in the side box and with the addition of a inexpensive bottle jack one could save serious money on roadside service calls especially when most guys carry spare tires anyway

I think it's worth it depending on the application. I've worked on excavators in the field and wouldve loved to have one of those. The fact you cant beat the portability of this impact would be a selling point for me
