    Nice review. Honestly, I don't want to compare the GoPro with Dji Osmo Pocket as both are for different purpose. I love both of them, but if I am given an option, I will go with Dji Pocket. Every year when I go hiking in the Himalayas, the only thing that worries me all the time is the huge camera bag. If I have this, I don't worry about this. All that you need is a good mobile camera, a power bank, and pocket. This should be more than enough for my vlog/ youtube.

    I bought both of them and both are great however I returned the Osmo I am 62 yrs old and the dexterity in my hands is not so great anymore it felt like I was trying to film with a popsicle stick and the field of view felt like I was in a bathroom filming. Having said that the audio and video were superb. I love the 7 as well very glad I kept it.

    So with the Go Pro you can shoot linear at 2.7k/60fps with hyper smooth?
    I could be wrong but I heard that shooting at the highest resolution and downscaling to 1080p for TH-cam is actually better than shooting directly at 1080p and then uploading to TH-cam for the Go Pro. Are my assumptions or questions correct?

    • @scottmckenna
      @scottmckenna  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Shooting at the highest resolution is always better. Does a 4K image look better than 1080? Absolutely. So shooting at 4K will always look better than shooting at 1080, even if it's downsampled

  • @StephaneP

    For having the two cameras, I only kept the osmo for non-sporty use. the osmo at a better image quality (less smoothed) a fairer colorimetry and especially really better results in low light.
    The narrower angle is much more suited to my type of use (it's a small camcorder)
    The GoPro is excellent but really oriented action and sport :-)

    Picked up the Hero 7 Black over Christmas and I've been so impressed by the performance. In Linear mode (2.7k 60fps) it's easily usable as a vlog camera, and the audio is perfectly fine too. Never been a believer but the GoPro is the game changer, far more versatile than the Osmo Pocket too.

    Very good comparison. Especially as you don't have a clear negative or positive verdict on either of the devices and leave it up to the viewer. The advantage of the Osmo is that the horizon stays level. Something the GoPro doesn't compensate. The GoPro only stabilize for camera movement/shaking. I like the Osmo for it's additional features like tracking, motionlapse, etc., but it's not intended for extreme sports like the GoPro is.Personally I want a camera to make cinematic footage as good as possible of everyday life and light to medium action, so the Osmo would suit me best.

    @JudoSurfer 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    While I understand using default modes, since you can quickly and easily customize the GoPro settings on camera (without having to connect a phone), I think that at least showing the Protune modes would be fair. Also, zoom on GoPro gives the exact same FOV as Osmo Pocket. On GoPro you have Linear (except 4K which is a shame), Wide, Superview AND variable zoom angles.
    As far as time lapse, no mention of TimeWarp? Additionally, a GoPro on an egg timer (roughly the same same size and cost of the DJI Osmo Pocket mount) gives you moving time lapse (including a full 360). I have an automated time lapse mount smaller than the GoPro that allows me to adjust speed, A--B point sweeping, or full rotation in either direction. It cost me $19 and is rechargeable. This feature on Osmo Pocket is hardly groundbreaking.
    I did (past tense) own Osmo Pocket (my poor reviews on my channel). IMO, it's way overhyped, ruins footage when it gets focus and Gimbal orientation wrong, and in many ways is worse than my phone on a $100 Gimbal.

    Osmo here looked too warm, GoPro too cool, draining faces of both colour and detail (washed out). Osmo stabilisation looked far smoother. My experience of linearising in post by stretching is that the consequent resolution loss at the frame edges can be very obvious (especially as I don't tend to shoot very "action").

    A comparison of two tools for two different jobs. The GoPro is a durable action camera which is amazing quality and the Osmo is more like a micro film camera, ideally suited to bloggers, filmmakers and the like. So really it’s like comparing apples and oranges, they’re both fruit but entirely different. I use the Osmo for scenics and on the go shooting when I don’t have my SLRs and I use the GoPro for my mountain biking because I know it’ll be fine when I inevitably crash.

Osmo need to upgrade the feature in and out zoom, to adjust our face looks not as big and fills the whole frame, Dji have to concern besides our face in frame, back ground behind is a quit important. 13 feb 2019, at last dji set up a new replacement for me. Not having a tripod mount on the Osmo is just about a deal breaker. Really takes away the versatility of the entire camera and basically limits it to a b-roll camera only. Not being able to mount it takes away the possibilty if setting it up as a secondary angle camera and not allowing for a smaller tripod makes it tiresome to hold for vlogging.
