Ive had 3 gopros all have broke within a year of using and yet I kept buying them. Now all I use is dji and never a problem. Just pre ordered my pocket thanks for most informational video!
The first impression was: I want this camera instead of my gopro 7. But after looking at the reviews I saw some big flaws: 1) bad sound 2) something incomprehensible with autofocus 3) small dynamic range. If I'm wrong, please correct me DJI Osmo Pocket owners
Very nice video! The only thing wrong for me is: 1) one cannot use the phone attachment and the control wheel at the same time? Why not have the option to mount on opposite sides? (in a shape of a cross?) 2) Can we shoot 4k/ 60fps with it?
Great video, thanks. One important feature GoPro has that this lacks is built-in GPS. Geotagging video or photos is essential for mapping, asset inspection etc.
You can't via the gimbal itself. Once you turn it on, it maintains the pro mode UNTIL you want to change something, then you have to exit the pro mode.
Stephen Kearon My worries exactly! The stress on the ports in real. Not going to damage my expensive phone with this device. Also it’s very very fragile and not weather proof. I’ll take a little less picture quality for something reliable. Take care, Bill in Utah
I was initially apprehensive but I think this will be a game changer , assuming that the video quality is acceptable then the big point for me would be the ability to use an external microphone to improve audio quality and reduce wind noise , which is my biggest gripe with using the excellent Osmo Mobile with my iPhone . Great revue as always.
I would like to hear an external mic set up on this. AUDIO is the hardest and most IMPORTANT aspect when Vlogging and the GoPro Karma stick fails miserably at this. Hoping for a better outcome here. Thanks for the good review. Juan.
Some are commenting that the audio is poor, but that's most likely if the audio hasn't been processed post-edit. You rarely utilise audio from any device without applying basic filters, the Osmo Pocket is no different. Have a listen to the onboard audio from our 4K Part 2 review, where we applied the basic Adobe Premiere 'Vocal Enhancer'.
Finally DJI has heard from us, the thing that I don't like about DJI OSMO MOBILE 2 was the file arrangement and naming of the files, it will mess up whole iPhone photo library after imported into it, as in I don't want to mix up my clips between iPhone and Osmo, I was so frustrated about it when sorting out my clips like which one is taken by iPhone and which one is taken by DJI. Now we have Osmo Pocket with SD card, it separates the files clearly and easier for us to edit the videos.
I use a DJI Osmo Mobile 2, but handeling a gimbal in extreme situations, hiking, sailing or sport activity, it is a bit complicated. But this gadget is awesome, I'm going to take one immadiately!
I have watched three other reviews of the Osmo Pocket but this review has it all, thanks for the time and trouble you have taken to do this, I will have to get one. Regards Tony from Australia
Very compelling use case for such a portable device! I’m still torn between this and the Hero 7 Black though.. seems the Hero has better picture quality but with a little more of the fish eye effect.. but the technology of the Osmo such as the Bluetooth/stand and the stitching effect makes for a very compelling argument. Great job! I’m now a subs.
How well do these 4k60fps cameras pan? I would like to use 60fps on 65" 4k screen for less jitter/strobe on pans but I suspect the camera software will blur the detail on pans, which would normally be within the 4k pixel detail pan range, to minimise the data rate required for UHS i cards vs UHS ii cards. One sure way would be to perform a motorised pan, repeated exactly at both 30fps and 60fps and check the file sizes. If the 60fps is a lot less than 2x the 30fps, then a lot of data is being binned by the former over the latter.
In my opinion the Pocket is vety nice. I checked my needs and if I buy one the Equipment summetize the budget and the hole one pieces grows up. A microphone plug, a mount for the mobile and light is recommended. The complede Equipment is huge and the connectors are not stable enough without mounting it with tools. I am a osmo mobile 2 owner and i can say that was one of my biggest mistake buy. (The movement is not fluent the motors are not strong enough to handle an iphone plus, can not operate together with an optical stabiliser in the phone ...) and actually it is big so i would prefer this one over the osmo mobile 2 my only concern with this one is the colours seems to be wrong everything seems to be like you filtered with a purple filter plus I see on the test shots also when you have to track a constant speed something it is not tracking fluently but sometimes moves than almost stops and than almost jumps fast to catch up ... That was one of the problems with the osmo mobile 2 also

Hi. I tested on my bike the Karma Grip with Gopro 5 and a Feiyutech WG2 gimbal together with Gopro Session. Both of them failed due to wind speed. I didn't do it on the highway, I did it on a curvy road, the way you did. So, the DJI Osmo Pocker seems right for this. In your test the passenger hold the camera, right? But what about the time you are alone on the bike? Do we have a set of mounts for the bikes?

DJI's lack of audio experience strikes again. Wish the USB-C to aux in adapter was in the box. The audio adapter is not even on the store yet that I can find.
Netcruzer RC TECH CARS audio adaptor is shown on dji site with the rest of the accessories, it’s the little thing under the ‘nd’ filters. Unfortunately, it fits into the charge port underneath the handle🤦🏼♂️
chasiu75 haha, its got to be said it’s not the most inspirational of designs. Go pro was launched as a simple, lightweight, robust and water proof means of capturing ‘action’ footage from POV. Someone jumping out of an aeroplane doesn’t need a mic, underwater doesn’t need mic, skiing @25+mph doesn’t need a mic, etc , etc. Nowadays they want a slice of the vlogging action.. best of luck to them and anyone else who wishes to use there products... not for me, thanks. Have a great day
I don't understand why so many manufactures don't just add a normal mic 3.5mm plug. I run most of my cameras on an ebike, so I have powered USB ports for each camera, then I run a mini boom mic. The Sony Fdr x3000 has been great, apparently I'll just keep using it for video and the dedicated audio, and have the Osmo use the onboard. Too much windnoise without a dead cat, so the onboard Osmo audio wouldn't do too well.
Great content ... enjoyed it ... in daylight what shutter speed do you use? Can you follow 180 rule? If not, how do you solve this issue in post?Do you know if mavic 2 pro nd filters fit on this one?
This is a TikTokers dream device 😂 for video that is... Edit: but in all reality guys, this thing is a game changer. It suits good quality and stability. The selling point is that it's packed in a little on-the-go gimbal device. 1080p 60fps is all you need for YT these days. This device is to be strictly used for b-roll and time lapse. Now on-the-go film makers can get some quality and lightweight footage fairly easily! Yey :) ***DON'T USE THIS DEVICE FOR AUDIO RECORDING. WAIT FOR A FUTURE MODEL****

Franchement une superbe vidéo. Merci de nous avoir tous détaillé. Notamment au niveau du son car j’avais quelques questionnement sur le sujet du micro embarqué. Je pense utiliser cette caméra pour ma chaîne. 👍
Minus a good mic and what appears to be pretty bad focusing which I hope they can rectify. Every review that I've seen crop seems to be too much and it has a problem focusing just on the subjects rather than the background

And i edit on my phone also so its perfect ill only have to walk with this and my drone
@@WhatsThisThenLucchiSupremeson yes but adding a mic hurts the portability aspect of it a bit for me. I pre-ordered the camera but there are 4 main issues I have. The field of view is pretty nerrow so for selfie vlog shooting it is very limiting. 2.The focus, even though it does have face track, seems to "breath" in alot in almost every video that I've seen. 3 having the osmo plus which has a better sensor and camera on it, we know this because of the drones that these cameras are attached too, really falls apart in low light and I have a sneaky suspicion is that one of the stipulations Early Access to this camera was not to talk about the low light capability. There are now over dozen reviews on TH-cam and not one mention of lowlights which is usually one of the first things to test. And lastly like I mentioned previously the sound quality is not great and having to put a proper mic on it does hinder its strongest feature, it's size, a bit for me. I think this would be a great b roll camera. But I can't see it replacing it's true vlogging setup
Great fantastic review. Do you know if you are able with the help of the wireless adapter to connect a Bluetooth microphone and use the audio from that one? All camera makers seem to focus on the video but the audio gets overlooked and for vloggers that would be very important. Thanks.
Osmo Pocket is a game changer yet it has some bad sides: 1. Lens Can be fractured and it's doomed 2. It has a built in battery, cannot be replaced. Battery done, it's a trash 3. It does not have perfect stabilization 8:33 , it shakes while you walk 4. It's not water resistant like Action Camera. You need another big Drum for that 5. It's mic is a scrap and does not support wireless mic 6. It's low light capability is 6 out of 10 only, better than action cam but lower than DSLR
Why is the sky always blown out? Way too narrow FOV for the motorcycle and waaay to close for the vlogging. Audio sounds horrible! Not a bad gimmicky device, but once you add the phone it's no longer a little device., Why not just get a gimbal for the phone? At least with a phone Gimbal you can upgrade anytime you want. With this, you're stuck with the same camera.
but that's not an action camera. If I want gimbal-stabilized videos, I get osmo mobile 2 at 100$ and use the cellphone. Dimensions of the gimbal only are not that bigger than this one. it makes NO sense. ONLY if the gimbal would be detatchable and to be used as a WG2, then it would be MINIMAL.
smitthone isnt the quality of the camera better than any cell phone ? Can you control the camera wirelessly, like tracking for example , no need for camera man
so even with accessories being available in future, im thinking there will be too much of dismounting and mounting. example: if you have the wireless modular on in the bottom, and you want to install the tripod mount, you have to take the wireless mod off and install the tripod mount or a microphone. in general you won't be able to have all your accessories mounted and use them as you go
Definitely going to need that nd filter set for this thing. I can see how easy it'd be to blow out the shot

This doesn't replace an action camera. This would break very easy. Also you can't go playing with this in the water.
How steady is it when it is worn, not held?
Impressive. I am very impressed. Woow
Disadvantage of this fix lens is that you can not adjust the aperture so you can have blur background. But it is very convenient and easy to use
That thing is so flippin small! Wow soo cool!
we love it
@@WeTalkUAV Yea, that footage looks amazing after the color grade!
@@calebstopa You got one yet? Just ordered mine
@@TECHDRONEMEDIA No, I don't have one yet. I'm saving up some money for the Panasonic GH5 right now. But I an thinking about maybe putting that on hold and getting this little guy 😂😂
Great video. may i ask how big is the pano pictures? size wise and resolution wise.
External mic for Vlogging or is it a b roll machine only?
How is the onboard mic?
Go to 7.42 :)
DJI is a company of China I am very proud for it
Yes... but I will say DJI is more of a global company now...
best product placing video i've seen :) I really like these glasses :)
Nice tool, but dynamic range looks really bad.
I noticed that that highlights were quite blown. Not sure if it's these guys' preference in editing, or the limitation of the sensor (or profile).
For a finer tune I imagine that you will need to connect your phone and adjust setting in "Pro" mode. Don't think is that of a big deal
Jaroslav Atry needs Nd filter
Thank you. This helps! Ordered a couple for my aviation filmmaking.
Wow! I will love to see that!
It's good device. It can kill mobile gimballs it's actually a gimball killer thinking about it. I'm already moving onto 360 action cams as you can capture all around you and can track you mates. And editing software is getting better. 360 action cams are the future for me . The pictures/ videos are interactive and you can capture full 360 of you excursions, bike, jetski, skiing, sight tours. I'll get one of these later next year for the smallness. It's better than bringing my massive gimbal out. Saves way more space in my travel bag.
The 6 people who gave this a thumbs down just bought a GoPro. 🤣
hahaha right
I just bought a GoPro 3 weeks ago :(
Mord like Gopro fan boys. They are trolling every Osmo Pocket reviews, especially the ones thay compare the two.
@@cohcoh668 I was waiting for the osmo pocket a long long time ...but they completely failed by giving us a smartphone like sensor in our pockets where already is one :-( ... That's soooo stupid! ...I will go now for the Hero 7 and sell it if DJI give us a osmo pocket version with the 1' sensor of the mavic pro 2. That's the only way the osmo pocket would have made sense.
I bet my Galaxy s10 (in Feb.) will give me better Video than the osmo pocket can offer now... that's a shame for an specialised extra divece.
btw. I never had a GoPro in my life becaus didtn like it's shaky footage 😂 ... still i have no idea how a action cam company totaly missed stabilation until last year and still have no IBIS🙈. That's so stupid as well.
@@patfish3291 , what would you expect for $350?;) 1inch sensor similar to that of Mavic 2 Pro will probably cost 500 and more.
Does it have a mic jack? what if needed to upgrade the sounds? and is the osmo safe when connected to the mobile phone what if accidentally bump into something will it dis-attached?
DJI's lack of audio experience strikes again. Wish the USB-C to aux in adapter was in the box. The audio adapter is not even on the store yet that I can find.
Netcruzer RC TECH CARS audio adaptor is shown on dji site with the rest of the accessories, it’s the little thing under the ‘nd’ filters. Unfortunately, it fits into the charge port underneath the handle🤦🏼♂️
@@therealdougblueskies Why can DJI make a small audio adapter but GoPro has such a huge brick?
chasiu75 haha, its got to be said it’s not the most inspirational of designs.
For any serious recording you have to use external audit recorder. Every professional does it.
Great content ... enjoyed it ... in daylight what shutter speed do you use? Can you follow 180 rule? If not, how do you solve this issue in post?Do you know if mavic 2 pro nd filters fit on this one?
But you haven't even thrown it against and tree yet

Hi. You think this can be used as a backup camera for shooting weddings? Just for creative shooting?
very good review mate..new subs.
thanks
What about sound Quality in windy environment (sailboat)? Many unresolved sound problems with the gopro.
WAIT FOR A FUTURE MODEL****
if I had to sum up 17 min into a couple of sentences...there you go :)
Machenic gimbal is better than electronic. Gopro is pressed to come up with more innovations. Seriously, from gopro 3 to 7, i haven't seen and game changing innovations. But DJI has been pushing the boundery since Phantom 3. Osmo Pocket is not perfect. But it's definitely more flexible , more innovative.
Hello
Can we capture the sound
be it through the osmo, or by connecting a smartphone?
thank you for your reply
Osmo or 3.5mm jack adaptor
Thank you for your answer. Good day to you . Great I will buy it!
"In the old times like back in the 90s " HAHAHAHA hilarious. were action cams even invented back then?
Franchement une superbe vidéo. Merci de nous avoir tous détaillé. Notamment au niveau du son car j’avais quelques questionnement sur le sujet du micro embarqué. Je pense utiliser cette caméra pour ma chaîne. 👍
Merci!!! :)
dji did it again, now I don't have to carry my Canon camera to vlog!
Yes! That's the point! For casual vlog or travel videos it is the perfect tool!
Any info on the battery? Can it be switched with another? 140 minutes isn’t great if you are on vacation wanting to film your day.
All our vlog dreams are answered
Minus a good mic and what appears to be pretty bad focusing which I hope they can rectify. Every review that I've seen crop seems to be too much and it has a problem focusing just on the subjects rather than the background
@@marcusnartatez we must all have too cameras by now and we must all know that patches come out for everything??? I think its a must have its everything ive been trying to buy in one and i can put it in my poket that's ridiculous plus 4k?? And i edit on my phone also so its perfect ill only have to walk with this and my drone
@@marcusnartatez oh and u can put an external mic on it soo
@@marcusnartatez ive seen a review of it where they filmed at night and it looked better and they edited the voice ill Send u a link

Great fantastic review. Do you know if you are able with the help of the wireless adapter to connect a Bluetooth microphone and use the audio from that one? All camera makers seem to focus on the video but the audio gets overlooked and for vloggers that would be very important. Thanks.
I cannot believe they haven't made an audio adapter that gives you professional audio onto the video
They have: it comes as an additional accessory which is much more compact and light than GoPro's humongous block...
SUPERB INFORMATIVE REVIEW, GOT ME SOLD, LOOK FORWARD TO MORE REVIEWS FROM THESE GUYS, WELL DONE!
Can you stream to FB Live with it?...
Wow, so nice. Size matters when you're running around half naked. Hopefully it works well in low light.
why don`t you adress the af issues which this product has?
Why did at the end of the video.
What kind of camera are you using for this vid.so clear.how much is the dji osmo?
*GO PRO HAS LEFT THE CHAT*
Osmo Pocket is a game changer yet it has some bad sides:
1. Lens Can be fractured and it's doomed
2. It has a built in battery, cannot be replaced. Battery done, it's a trash
3. It does not have perfect stabilization 8:33 , it shakes while you walk
4. It's not water resistant like Action Camera. You need another big Drum for that
5. It's mic is a scrap and does not support wireless mic
With this, you're stuck with the same camera.
you'll never be able to film in windy conditions with a phone gimbal. otherwise, your points are valid
Meh
Well done guys - great review.
This can do 4K 60 but my Mavic 2 can’t? What a joke.😤
that's a boom...
Seriously
The didn't wanted to kill the Phantom4 Pro, that is the only reason
Is there some kind of screw on it or something that you can attach it on a gopro mount? I have a bike and would love to be able to fix it somewhere
Low dynamic range
it is very contrasted, but the dynamic range wasn't that bad (YT compression isn't good honestly)
Limitations of a small sensor. It does well for the price.
Great vid! Filming during riding your bike .....did you use tilt lock because of the wind?
if anyone have money buy me one😞
iam sure no one will read this😔
😞
☹
Go get a job
For mobiles with no lightning or USB C, the only possibility for connecting it is by the wireless adapter? There is no micro USB adapter?
too EXPENSIVE!!
It's $50 cheaper than a GoPro!
but that's not an action camera.
@@smitthone that makes sense too...we will definitely make videos about that
smitthone isnt the quality of the camera better than any cell phone ? Can you control the camera wirelessly, like tracking for example , no need for camera man
Compared to...?
so even with accessories being available in future, im thinking there will be too much of dismounting and mounting.
example: if you have the wireless modular on in the bottom, and you want to install the tripod mount, you have to take the wireless mod off and install the tripod mount or a microphone.
in general you won't be able to have all your accessories mounted and use them as you go
