In times of chaos and violence, brutality and oppression, one would not think of the arts as a guiding light for maintaining cultural identity and establishing peace and independence. However, the small country of Latvia serves as a prime example of how the arts, specifically folk dance, helped to maintain Latvian culture through centuries of oppression and war. As Swedish and German missionaries sought to spread Christianity throughout the pagan tribes in the 11th century, dance helped to sustain the cultural and religious beliefs of the ancient Latvians. Folk dance created a sense of unity within their communities, and the Christian missionaries were not able to suppress the art form enough to discontinue its ritualistic use. Jumping forward to the 20th century, folk dance played an important role in what is known as "the Singing Revolution" that began in 1987 and eventually led to the independence of the Baltic States in 1991. Large-scale Song and Dance Festivals served as the platform for this artistic protest movement. Whilst under the grasp of the Soviet Union, Latvian folk dance served as a form of political protest, which created a sense of unity by reminding Latvians of their cultural heritage, and ultimately bolstering their national movement.

Well, there will always be those who will preserve them, without the dark distortions of those sad souls lost in false pride and arrogance. Heavens protect all those who are proud of their roots without disrespecting other people's dignity. Both Germanic and Slavic peoples of Germany will preserve their cultures and lineages among some selected groups of souls. All peoples have this deeply rooted longing to preserve their identity, it's a legitimate right, as long as respect for the others is observed along the way.
Ich bin sehr dankbar, dass ich bei diesem einzigartigen Sängerfest 2018, siehe diesen Film, wieder dabei und dieses Mal mittendrin sein durfte! 2018 mit einer im Vergleich zu manchen Treffen davor außergewöhnlichen Atmosphäre! Bei Gesprächen mit Anwesenden hatte ich den Eindruck, als würden die Menschen ahnen, dass in naher Zukunft eine schwere Zeit bevorstehen wird... Ende Juni 2023 findet das nächste Sängerfest mit rund 40.000 aktiv Mitwirkenden (Tanz & Gesang) statt! Aber Achtung! 210.000 Karten für 3 Veranstaltungen a 70.000 Menschen können innerhalb von 3(!) Stunden ausverkauft sein!!
Welcher Hass? Haben sie denn viel Liebe in sich? Oder sehen sie nur das negative? Die Welt ist nunmal nicht schwarz weiss, auch nicht einfach gut und böse, wir und die, hier ind dort. Sie machen sich ihre Beurteilung zu einfach.
Warum gehst du zu Weihnachten nicht in die Kirche? Es gibt dort oft Konzerte mit Chor Musik von Mozart, Bach, Händel etc? Wo seid ihr wenn ihr Tradition wollt? Ich sehe leider nur Deutsche über 60, die es noch so tun, wie es mal war. Das Selbe auch über das Tanzen.
In gewisser Weise hast Du recht! Aber wir haben es in der Hand, denn jeder einzelne kann Tradition und Volksweisen praktizieren. Das gab es sogar in der DDR (ohne daß ich dieses Polit-Regime glorifizieren will!).
@@ilvailvandoniherde496 Naja, selbst die Deutschen über 60 sind nicht mehr traditionellen Alten. Das ist die Boomergeneration, die als erstes nach dem 2. WK dem Amerikanismus verfallen sind. Traditionen sind Jahrhunderte alt und verändern sich kaum. Ich liebe Opern beispielsweise, aber klassische Musik war eigentlich immer die Musik der höheren Klassen. Der Großteil der Deutschen hat Volkslieder gesungen, ob zu Hause, bei der Feldarbeit oder auch in der Schule. Heutzutage kennt kaum noch wer Volkslieder. Es wird eben auch nicht durch den Staat gefördert. Die einzigen wirklichen traditionellen Volskfeste im deutschen Sprachraum sind in Tirol. Obwohl diese mittlerweile auch moderner geworden sind.
