Being able to wear “the fringe” as a tiara or a necklace is so cool! Kokoshniks are one of the most beautiful headwear shapes.

To me, the fringe tiara that Elizabeth wore on her wedding day is a real standout. It speaks of true royalty in my view. The video was so informative and the tiara collection has so many showstoppers in it. Thanks for the entertaining education!

I like the older tiaras in the collection because they are more elegant in design. QEII was an exemplary monarch but the tiaras she had made during her reign - particularly the Burmese Ruby, the Brazilian Aquamarine - are leas graceful and eye-pleasing in design. I prefer the Oriental Circlet, the Greville Kokoshnik (stunning emeralds!), Queen Mary’s Bandeau, and the Meander (Greek Key) Bandeau. I would love to see someone wear the Cartier Bracelet Bandeau. It’s never been publicly worn as a tiara since the 1930’s and there are no colour photos of it. I would also love to see someone wear the Strathmore Rose Tiara but it’s been said that it is too fragile to use. Surely there’s a way to repair it! Great video - thank you! They remove the stones but usually keep the empty platinum framework/setting; so Gerards could theoretically put the exact same stones back into their original position (if they were not in another piece already). Depending on the style of workmanship and settings, it can be as simple as folding ba m the times holding the stone in place and popping the stone in or out.
The stones make up the most expensive portions of the value of a majority of pieces (without historical significance, that is) in the Royals’ personal collection; however, the setting is where one sees all the craftmanship and style. Since the jewelers keep *such* detailed, intricate, & thorough records of all the gems & jewelry pieces, they could likely recreate a perfect copy as well.
It’s actually common for Sovereigns to design their own crown worn to official engagements as king/queen (and also to be crowned prince of wales). The only one that has to stay the same/be worn by each king/queen is the imperial one worn at coronation and parliament.
They can choose to make their own official state crown from scratch, create a personal design but plunder the gems off another one worn previously, or just wear a previous sovereign’s crown with some minor edits; irregardless, it must be paid for by them personally… not the public. Elizabeth sought to differentiate Charles from the last prince of wales- his uncle that abdicated, so she had a new crown designed for him personally. William seems the type to just wear his dads, but we’ll see. It will be interesting to see if Charles makes his own crown as well- I would bet he would do something to differentiate himself from his mother after her king rule, but he’s quite thrifty and rational so ityll be interesting to see if he chooses his grandfathers or does something else. The last several generations have kept the crowns intact I believe bc the great prosperity of the royal family didn’t necessitate they remove the gems from a previous model if they wanted to personalize their own.

"The Imperial State Crown" is used for each State Opening of Parliament, and was used after the actual crowning at the coronation. The crown has gone through several renovations over the centuries, but the design it takes today largely mirrors that of the crown made for Queen Victoria in 1838. I like the Girls of GB & Ireland tiara.
I think it's probably the one that could flatter the most different faces:
    - it's got a mix of straight & curved lines / sharp & soft
    - as a whole it's not too big, not too small
    - mix of big & small shapes
    - there's a flowing & free vibe, yet if you really look at it, it's very ordered in its patterns...
I also like the Queen Mary's Fringe Tiara & Queen Alexandra's Kokoshnik Tiara:
    - clean lines,
    - no shapes that look fussy or date them (at least not obviously)
    - seem understated, but actually have a buttload of bling
    - look like they would have a gorgeous ripple of sparkles as they move through light
    - make me think of 1997 film Anastasia & therefore evoke childhood nostalgia 😅

When there are French words in your script, please be sure to check the pronunciation with a native speaker. Your documentaries are interesting, but the mispronunciation detracts from their effect. You will also be doing your listeners a favor; nowadays, unfortunately, a good number of people don't speak foreign languages well, and correct pronunciation will benefit them. It's also a sign of respect for foreign cultures. Other viewers have written similar replies; please take them seriously.

I think that the late Queen Juliana did a clever thing. All the Orange Nassau family tiaras, parures etc etc are put into a foundation. Every family member can ask the actual sovereign if they may use a tiara. But there is one exception. There are several tiaras which never can be used by the Princesses but only by the Queen Consort Máxima. Therefore none of the tiaras can go abroad anymore, which did occur on several occasions in the 19th century when an Orange Nassau Princess married a foreign Prince or King. For example Princess Louise of Orange Nassau married the Swedish King and her tiaras went to Denmark when her daughter became Queen of Denmark.

Catherine, Princess of Wales looks amazing in this tiara. She has made it her own.

I really like the pearls on the tiaras and the string of pearls on the older members of royal families. They are stunning.

That Brazilian Tiera with the bright aquamarine stones in it is pretty striking. My fave I think outside of the art deco or thistle tiera.

What I especially liked concerning Q Elizabeth and the royal tiaras was that she carefully considered each loan so that there were a variety of the tiaras on show in any given year. She also considered the clothes and the person who would wear the tiara, or her dresser did, and made sure that the tiara loaned would stand out yet compliment the wearer. I hope this continues with Queen Camilla and later,Princess of Wales, Katherine, when she becomes Queen.

They’re all beautiful and unique. Clearly works of art. I personally like the Cartier Halo and the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland.

Thanks for this video! Everyone has been mentioning their favorites. I'd love to see more examples of historic and contemporary tiaras in existence. Of those cited, I think the Lover's Knot was always stunning on Diana PoW, and more recently, Eugenie was fabulous in the Greville Emerald Tiara, and Meghan was so lovely in the Queen Mary Diamond Bandeau Tiara. As far as picking personal faves, none of us can really know unless we could try them on, which ones we'd look good wearing. LOL!

I feel Princess Catherine carries the Lover's Knot far better than Diana. Princess Catherine is so vibrant in her looks while Diana was kind of washed out until she lightened her hair and wore heavy blue eye lashes and shadow - and by then she was out of the Palace pretty much. Diana's posture was poor compared to Princess Catherine's. Diana may have felt taller (which she probably was) than Charles so kept her head down and her back curved.

I admire the Kokoshnik style tiaras, especially the ones with the bars that are a little taller. I saw one in the animated movie Anastasia and I've loved that style since then.

The tiaras are very beautifully decorated designed to provide a unique style of modern design and modern style of crowns.

I'm amazed that I have read this far in the comments without someone carping on about how all this jewelry should be sold and the money given to the poor.
