The biggest issue is no hardware decoding support for HEVC 4:2:2 by either the processor or GPU. Interestingly enough, on the iPad (doesn't even have to be an M1) it works great because they have hardware decoding. I wish Nvidia would add support. They have 4:2:0 and 4:4:4 but not 4:2:2. The thing that kills me with the RAW is the file size. If I shot everything RAW, I probably would need a NAS upgrade! 24TB just doesn't go as far as it used to! Hope you're doing well! Luts are from my C200 lut pack, there are two examples on my channel to see more of what they look like. Regarding the raw files, It should play in VLC but might tough dude to resolution and bitrate, it doesn't play well on my machine. best case is to use an editor like Premiere or Resolve.

I’ve never had issues when shooting in 1080 8bit 60fps. Do you think I’ll come across any lag issues using Canons new 4K 10bit IPB or All I on the R6?

I wanted to be positive, but the bad news keep coming... My machine is probably better than yours, but I'm not able to playback those H265 4:2:2 files smoothly. It is because there is no hardware decoder for h265 AND 4:2:2 color sampling. e.g. NVDEC supports H265 4:2:0 and 4:4:4 BUT NOT 4:2:0. Thus it is software decoding and loads the cpu so much. Also, I was ready to accept the overheating in the "exciting" modes as a compromise. But it seems that the R5 builds so much heat while for example shooting stills, that you won't be able to do some slowmo or 4K HQ after an hour at all... That's a bummer. I don't want shoot weddings or smth. professional. And I would be ok with the overheating times as long as they start from the timepoint you switch in one of the "overheating" modes. But with the newest statements I wouldn't be able to shoot 4K. Like for example I'm hiking on good summer day. I start a vlog in 4K (probably even low quality, so no "overheating mode"). then I hike for an hour and take some photos. Then I reach some amazing place and want to shoot couple of seconds/minutes of slowmo B-Roll. FAIL: 0 seconds left. So my last option would be to switch to 1080p slowmo (probably, who knows if it will work). But then it looks crap compared to my 4K vlog footage I started with... Knowing this I would start in 1080p from the beginning, where I am now anyways. And this makes 4K somehow unusable for me and I think for a lot of other people. Also with this fact the price seems pretty high.
If you have a better machine, playing back the H265 files should be giving you similar if not better results. How are the files being played? SSD, m.2, typical harddrive? Also i'm going to link you to the following two videos, first one is a guy who did a commercial and had zero overheating issues shooting 8k raw. Room temperature yes but still, if done correctly, heating issues should rarely happen. @@alexmeier19 I did and it doesn't make any sense. I'm editing the files just fine as shown in the video. That's why I asked you where are the files being played from? Also 16gb, 32 etc? It matters just as much as HW decoder. It helps eliminate the bottleneck. So to see Max's 10k Mac struggle tells me there's a bottleneck somewhere VS a decoder issue.
Great video. I really hope Cannon release a sold 4k camera like the AS7III. I don't like Sony build quality. BTW, a 16 core R9 3950x might be able handle horrible 4:2:2 h265 codec.

I've just gone through the R5 manual and I can't find anything about recording to proxies internally. Can you tell us where that option is?
Go to the memory card options and set your video recording to Raw + MP4.

Great video. A couple questions though, where'd you get those luts? Also, How do I get these raw files to simply play on Windows media player or VLC.

Hi there. Thx for the video man. When you say record proxies to the SD card. You mean with an Atomos or something like that through the HDMI. Correct?
The R5 can record 4k proxies internally to the SD card slot while recording any flavor of 4k or 8k to the CFexpress card at the same time.

@@reoexe923 I edit the 4k 24 and 4k 24 hq perfect and the 4k 120 no problem but the 4k60 and 8k I have to drop to 1/4 preview resolution

4k DCI is only for the studio edition. If you have the free version just do 3840x2160

@@JohnnieButtersonline everything but I dont have Premiere. The SW decoder may differ a little bit, but still the problem is, there is no HW decoder

It's playing back but your not doing anything. You added a LUT? no graphics, no fusion, transitions no nothing.
