  • Dragonfly nymphs are aggressive predators that, depending on the family and species, spend up to four years or longer as nymphs.
    Capable of attaining large sizes dragon nymphs such as the Guinea Dragon in sizes 4 through 10 make excellent patterns choices all season long.
    Dragon nymphs such as the Guinea Dragon are personal favorites during the late summer when most species hatch and during the summer doldrums. Smaller patterns are also excellent during the late fall.
    I fish this pattern most often using slow sinking lines such as the RIO In Touch Camolux or In Touch Deep 3. A steady hand twist punctuated with the odd strip or a 3-4 inch strip-pause retrieve works well. Please check out mine and Brian Chan's Stillwater App for additional information.

    That's the exact same chenille that I use for my green gold bead head wool bugger, which is my absolute go-to fly for still waters.I'm excited to tie this dragonfly pattern.

      Thanks, Jeff, it is one of my favorite colors of chenille too. It also makes a great Carey Special.
      Cheers, Phil

    There’s a nice fly to use up some of that stock pile of chenille I bought when I first stared tying

      Chenille is still a great tying material. It is now overshadowed by many of the newer materials available today. I hope you can put your stockpile of chenille to good use through a bunch of Guinea Dragons! :)
      Thanks, Phil

    Love those original pattern materials. . .? Phil where do you find brushable super glue

    • @PhilRowleyFlyFishing
      @PhilRowleyFlyFishing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Maurice. There are a number of different brands of brushable superglue. Wapsi makes one as well as Zap a Gap. Fly shops typically carry those brands. You can also get brushable superglue at Wal Mart, Michaels and home improvement stores such as Lowes or Home Depot. Look for Crazy Glue or Loctite/LePage's brand brushable super glue.

    Maybe some buoyancy tied in somewhere would be nice.

    • @PhilRowleyFlyFishing
      @PhilRowleyFlyFishing  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I stayed true to the pattern originator. This pattern features a polypropylene underbody which adds a degree of buoyancy Polypropylene is hydrophobic.
      You could definitely add a foam underbody or eyes if you wanted to further increase its buoyancy.
      I most often fish this on a slow sinking line such as a hover or clear intermediate line to further help keep it out of trouble.
      Cheers, Phil

      @@PhilRowleyFlyFishing yeah my thoughts exactly. I need to pickup those eyes and that chinelle perhaps I'll grab some foam 👀 as well. Great pattern 👌 thanks again
