    Had an amazing time talking to Glenn Fricker from SpectreSoundStudios! Glenn is an incredibly talented and incredibly funny guy. We get to talk about different recording gear and techniques, some of our favorite records, and much more. It was a pleasure getting to talk to him - you can check out his youtube channel at the link listed below the video! Thank you ever so much for watching, and have a marvellous time recording and mixing! Many thanks Warren

    I'm slowly catching up on your videos and it's a blast. This was a great interview! I love the enthusiasm, you guys are still such music fans after all these years and it's a joy to watch - that's the kinship we all have on this channel. I also had my suspicions confirmed: Glenn is indeed a sweet guy who is passionate about music and the craft, and excited about it (and not necessarily bitter as some would suggest). Thanks Glenn and Warren!

    You seem to be gradually doing videos with more and more of the other youtubers I watch, which is great and always seems to result in a really interesting video. I think these kind of videos help to really blend the TH-cam community together in a way that is personal, engaging and a nice change from the short form videos that cover specific elements of production. It's cool to just listen to two people chat about stuff :) great video!
    Ps. You should totally contact/collaborate on something with "creative sound lab" if you have the time. He creates some of the most interesting tutorials on TH-cam.

    Im not sure most people know this, but the V30's in Mesas cabs, arent the OEM ones you get from Celestion, they are voiced specifically for Mesa. thus, the V30's in your mesa cab, vs your orange, vs your Marshall, vs Line6. Totally different.

    The "classic" JCM 800 sound was the 800 head with a gain modification popularized by Mike Soldano. Agreed that the stock head is fizzy and thin.

      I have theJCM 800 reissue head with the FX loop as well as Boogies, Bogners Friedmans Dr Z, Fenders Vox, Peavey , Egnater, and the list goes on and oddly enough I don't find the reissue to be thin and fizzy at all. As a matter of fact, I disliked Marshalls for the longest time for exactly what you are describing (Thin and Fizzy distortion). However, this one and my Jubilee reissue is not like that at all. It's not high gain but it has this great Bluesy tone that has a lot of weight and depth. I would like Dave Friedman to mod it for a little higher gain but for a rhythm or lead bluesy tone I just love it. I've even A,B,C,D'ed the amp for recording and it really delivers through a 4x12 or my Two Notes Studio IR Box. Surprised me too. :)

    The Dynamount looks really cool and the Wilkinson Clips for different multi mic techniques are awesome especially when space is tight and you can't use a bunch of stands. Unfortunately I see alot of "Pro Mix and Recording Engineers" giving it a lot of Unnecessary flack because "that's what studio interns/assistant engineers/actual recording knowledge is for". It's great to see guys like Warren and Glenn open to these new technologies and tools for recording and using them in their daily recording rigs.

    My 2 cents regarding the perfection: I think what you both had not touched on in this discussion is that now it's easy to have unlimited takes and the hunt for perfection because of that. I think now it's easier to miss a great take which may get easily dismissed because of a mistake. Sometimes there's a great performance with a great feeling that's great regardless of one or two mistakes. I have recorded solos that have mistakes in them because I didn't even plan for them to be 'real' takes. But I like them so much that they stay, with wobbly timing and all. Sometimes I don't even dare to try and recreate it because I am sure I can't get the same feeling - How should I recreate a mood I had when I was half asleep and bit exhausted and just played along to something that was playing that I had the idea for a day earlier? It would be easy to re-record all the notes correctly with the correct timing, but that wouldn't be that solo anymore.

    • @Producelikeapro
      @Producelikeapro  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fantastic points Jan!! I definitely listen to what;s being recorded and not just keep going take after take! I agree 100% that sometimes it's the imperfections in a take that make it amazing, understanding when something works and not just relying on the timing and tuning being perfect is a huge skill! Have a marvellous time recording and mixing! Many thanks Warren

    yeah Warren early 'Tin lizzie .. lucky enuff to meet & hangout with them briefly after up close live gigs in Cardiff .. where the sweat was flying & the stage was only one step up off the floor .. I got to hold brians les paul .. Philip was convinced that we must be related as I had the same hair teeth & accent as 'robbo' . Being from Glasgow born .. He was a really nice guy so Charismatic .. and really genuine with it .. Scott .. gr8 gtr player .. not so nice .. more interested in my female pals .. but Brian May . my wife met & she said he was just like me . ( really boring ) .. it was a save the badgers event & all he wanted to talk about was science haha .. but he first inspired me to try & make my own gtrs .. still trying .. But for me Free was were & always will be one of the best bands ever .. Mountain .. & you say you saw bon scott in 78 .. I spent hours the other week trying to find the ' heaviest hardest sound I could ' on you tube .. so many .. but Night prowler .. Shaznah nanoo nanoo . is still one of the top ten .. 'tho Sammy Hagar doing Bad motor scooter/ my generation with joe satriani & its live .. is very near the top .. but Thin lizzy on form in the early Kicking of the set with Jailbreak .. oh memories .. Chris Rea road to hell .. enuff already.. but nice to see your roots showing .. cheers

    When I 1st heard GnR on radio "Wellcome to the Jungle" I thought it was Joan Jett. No joke. I saw that same Aerosmith tour Pump tour amazing show Steven was doing backfilps all over the stage standing singing & he'd cut a flip mid air & land flat footed it for the next line….wow. I made a HUGE banner I painted that I was going to hang inside while waiting the crowds were Screaming at that Banner it looked great. Then a cop grabbed it from the girls that were holding it up over a stairway in the Stadium in the hall ways Not bothering anyone & snatches it I go after him say wait thats mine…the cop says Is this yours ? Well You & It are outta here. I had the whole lot of Fans pleading No don't throw em out & I was but my Banner??? He threw in the garbage lol hours of work gone. But I opted to stay for the show instead of going out to get my banner from the trash. I did another on for Pink Floyd you can spot it in the nose bleed in the 1987 Learning to Fly tour shot at the Omni in Atl. It's kinda had to find. Oh & White Lion I saw them open for Ozzy I feel bad now but I was very rude to Vito the guitarist I had a friend that looked a Lot like him & just like em from behind so I see who i though was my friend back of the Auditorium so I start screaming TIM Hey TIM!!! thinking he found a way back stage…then Vito turns around smoking a cig & I look at & go never mind I thought you were somebody else. I was right up front to see Ozzy & I had to stare at Vito during there whole set. lol

    The GK amps, hell AYE. I was on a Tube Works 100w 12" & 12" wedge, HUGE.
    Traded my fucking JCM800 & $300, HAPPY FINALLY. Thing is, you had to get a 'clunky' sounding one, & dial in the dirt box/comp>eq to freeq those damn things. I hate backbreaking boxes.
