I’m Australian, born in 1968, and I’ve never heard of Toast Toppers. However, consider me a devotee of Rik’s homemade toast toppers! What a brilliant way to make toasted sandwiches for dinner look sexy. I’m thinking an English breakfast version (egg on top), a caramelised onion, thyme and Gruyère version and a macaroni cheese and bacon version.
I’m in the US, and I’ve never heard of toast topper. But these samples you cooked up look absolutely delicious! I’m going to try to make a text mix version of toast topper using ground beef and taco seasoning! Thanks for sharing so many delicious recipes with us
Ham and mushroom toast toppers with oxtail soup was my favorite as a young lad, God I miss the 80s ... So much simpler and better back then. Amazing vid squire can we have more like this please......❤
Taping the top 40 on a Sunday night, lucozade bottles with cellophane on them, Mars bars 6 inches long, Findus pancakes and arctic roll, ready salted chipsticks!
You can let your imagination run wild with the variety and combinations of toppings you can create. Even your beaten up shoes and an old broom would look delicious mixed up with this base! This was a new one for me too. That crunch as you bit in to those sandwiches had me swooning. Another recipe for the collection. Thank you Rik.
What a great way to feed a diverse group! A toast topper buffet of sorts. One base, myriad topping choices! Rik, you’re a man after my own heart! BRAVO!
I'm an American and so never heard of this, canned or homemade but I'm going to make it for sure! In this country back in the 50s and 60s, there were all sorts of recipes for creamy things to serve on toast, like chicken ala king and chipped beef, and naturally a famous condensed soup company came up with many using their products. Too bad most people turn up their noses at these old fashioned dishes. At the rate we're going in this country, they'd better learn or they might have to mortgage their houses to afford to eat.
Hi Rik Worked for heinz for 41 yrs an used to make these at one point before they stopped making them . Can recall making pizza flavoured ones which were real good and ham & mushroom was another favourite. Love all your recipes an how you make them look so simple . Keep up with the traditional recipes BIG AL Wigan
What a cracking little recipe and so adaptable to what is either available or affordable and once the base is made its only a case of chop it up and throw it in and who doesn't need a sandwich spread occasionally. Perfect recipe for reduced priced items including the bread.
There's toast toppers in a tin? This looks so good, but when I'm watching your videos, I see so much natural cooking talent. Example: simply dipping bowl with eggs into your warm milk. Its done so easily, from years of experience. My mind wanders to what kind of cooking life you have had. Like, what did you do before your two restaurants in Thailand? Did you go to culinary school? Were you a chef in the service? Have you had a big family that you cooked for. You are so interesting. You could easily do a video of just talking about your life. Good morning😎
Good morning Arizona! Every time I type that I think of the great Robin Williams. You see so much more than most. As you saw there is no reason to make a deal out of tempering eggs! I have had an amazing culinary journey! I have had the pleasure of working with some lovely folks. I love food - I love cultures from around the world put it altogether and I'm in foodie heaven. I love learning new things - and this channel - even though I cook is amazing with all the lovely folks who take time to actually give tips , recipes. It helps everyone. I love to hear about what folks are eating, ingredients from around the world. I think you know by now I'm not a internet copying cook, like the many. I have no problem in showing original recipes. I am very pleased you are here, Sharon. You have contributed on nearly every video with a comment - that is amazing! Thank you. Best, Rik
My fave was the mushroom one . I have asked for it a few times in supermarkets & got some very strange looks . They made a lovely late night supper treat. Oddly ,I made your chilli cheese mac a few days ago but instead of grated cheese I topped mine with.a little nutmeg & a rarebit topping & then I grilled it .. It was stunning ..😋.🙏
Toast toppers ❤❤❤❤ loved these. I remember them as a kid, but also remember them as a young adult in the 90s, Fridays night, pub, drinks, weed, home , the word on tv, toast toppers , bed, sorted 😂😂
This brings back lovely memories. I used to make my own in the 80s mainly with the ham that was left over off the soup hock. Like you I read the labels to get the ingredients. Thanks Rick 😊
Reminds me of a school lunch dish from the early 1970s. They were called Tuna Bumsteads as it used the cartoon character's bread. I believe it was a type of tuna melt toasted on a roll. Even the pickest kid would eat that day. Yours is quite a bit better. Thanks for bringing back the memory.
Oh my goodness Rik you have bought back so many happy memories , I used to love toast toppers especially the cheese and ham one who knew you could make your own I will be on this asap thank you 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻Amanda xx
Oh yummy, loved toast toppers, and couldn’t believe it when Heinz stopped making them. There was a bit of a SM movement to try to get the company to bring them back, but it fell on deaf ears sadly. Thanks for sharing this Rik, definitely will be giving this one a go … ham & cheese, bacon & mushroom - happy memories- happy days!😊👨🍳👍👌😋
These look good Rik. I used to make bread cases in my muffin tin and fill them with this and use them as a something to make when we had a few visitors around along with other things. I used to live them. Maybe I should do some. Again. Haven’t done these for years. Yum, yum.
OMG, I've gone back in time - I had completely forgotten about Toast Toppers until I saw the title of this video and then, BAM, it hit me and a flood of memories came rushing back. Great job Rik, thanks for sharing x
I made this for my breakfast this morning, but I put diced tomato and spring onion in it. I lightly toasted the bread, buttered it and then added the topper with extra mature cheddar. To be honest I wasn't that fond of the base before I added my other ingredients but it turned out lovely after a few minutes in the air fryer. I like any recipe with cheese in it, would love more of them. Love your channel though
Hi Rik, i remember in the late 70's early 80's you could buy toast toppers in a tin can't remember the brand but it was like thin mixture which you scraped on ya toast then grilled it, but this looks more substantial, a hearty butty good job.
I live in the United States and I've never even heard of a toast topper. What you made looks so good and I'm thinking and this is not expensive and the one with tuna and the one with sausage. Oh my goodness gracious. Rik, you are amazing! I know they taste good❤❤
Great memories of my twenties ! Had a great (I hope) idea. Going to build a multi-sector pizza using a packet of ready-made pastry, skimming of tomato, and then 4 or 5 different toast topper mixes.
@BackyardChef I made the topper sauce , and this morning , I made fry tators and semi boiled eggs with ham tidbits on a bolio bun sliced in half , the hubby enjoyed it ! Thanyou for all of the inspitional ideas , God bless you! May you find the Lord Jesus goodness , all the days of your life !!
Yer know what Rik, I always thought the cans of this stuff should be everything I like, and, while they were OK, I was always a tad disappointed in them. This HAS to be better, and I can't wait to try it. Cheers mate.
