God the fact that Jim and Ed got Eastman and Laird on the show and we get to see them talking as comic book creators. If you told me a show like this could exist 15 years ago, I'd have laughed you out of the damned room.
Givem the fact the 2003 series ran for half a decade and the 25th anniversary special in 2009 concluded with Laird heavily involved, can't blame the man for burnout
The madmen, they actually showed Eastman and Laird the TMNT BL. EDIT: Given Japan’s history of ninja stories and manga, I think whoever told Kevin that the TMNT weren’t right for Japan bc ninja are killers may have been yanking his chain a bit…it’s very Japanese to indirectly decline someone like that, it’s seen as more polite
I’ve never been that into TMNT but this series is excellent! Need to pick up one of these collections and really dive into the early material for myself. Shoutout to Eastman and Laird for being so generous with their time and welcoming to having these kinds of conversations! Keep up the great work boys.
I remember my parents brought some Turtles merch back from the U.K for me as a kid to Australia. It was all labelled 'Teenage Mutant HERO Turtles'. I thought I'd been given fakes, but turned out that's what the Brits called them!
I can't wait until you guys do the Cerebus issue (8)!!! I hope you get Mr. Eastman's and Mr. Laird's thoughts on the up coming Waverly Press version that Mr. Sim is publishing.
This series is so fun to watch. I'm really digging the facts about the art and how Eastman's and Laird's lives were going during the production of the comics.
I followed along in my second print of this issue and realized it doesn't have any of the screen tones or duo tones in it, that might be an interesting question next time they're in because I know the second printings differed in other ways too.
Say what you will about the popularity back in the day, turtles are big enough in Japan right now. My company licenses/releases the colorized Mirage comics and Last Ronin translated, and fans here really are eating them up!

Along with Turtle Power and The Toys that Made Us, this is absolutely required viewing for every Turtles fan. Kevin and Peter lived the dream.

I absolutely love that this opened with a display of copyright infringement incestuous japanese dojuinshi TMNT books to Kevin and Peter.
I also theorize that many of the manga artists that redrew the Archie TMNT comics, That Kevin mentioned, were the same artists of the doujinshi.
