      Nice to see a video that doesn't just suck off RMC. No one ever talks about their engineering issues that plague basically all their rides. Their trains too. I think they're trying to so hard to keep the cost down that it's causing them to overlook a lot of this. Sub-contracts probably doesn't help either.

    For those of you unfamiliar, a block zone is a section of ride that only one train may occupy. At the end block zone is a method of stopping the train in case the block zone ahead is occupied. This is the safety system that prevents roller coaster trains from colliding with one another

I can't really compare it to anything, but unless the metal part of the seatbelt gets between somewhere uncomfortable (like your leg) and the restraint, it shouldn't be that bad for enthusiasts. I think RMC should make 2 small changes to their restraints:
    1) move the seat belt buckle to the side, to avoid the metal buckle being able to be under the lap bar.
    2) widen the width of the lap bars. There is too much force over the thin lap bar and this distributes too much force to a small area on your legs. Widening it would increase comfort.

    I've ridden both Mean Streak and Steele Vengeance as well as The Texas Rattler and Iron Rattler... I'd say that if it wasn't for the brilliance of RMC, those 2 coasters would be long gone.... I honestly feel like RMC’s have become too aggressive and the anti-rollbacks have just gotten louder and louder. I’ve been needing to cover my ears on the lift hill of Wildcat’ a revenge which hasn’t happened on any other RMS I’ve ridden. However, I think RMC’s are somewhat comfortable, except there’s pretty much nowhere to hold onto like Steel Vengeance, and I love having my hands up on roller coasters. I agree. Anti roll backs are ridiculously loud. Like, rock concert decibels, or close enough. I think their trains suck ass though. WAY too small and cramped, too difficult to walk into and off of, nowhere to hold on, annoying restraints that hurt my shins and come down tighter over time etc. Their engineering is pretty lacking too on the high up, intense elements. Though, they've rectified it over time. I also don't think they should really be using wood on any new, ground up coaster. It's absurd.

    I beg to differ from your opinion about 1st and 2nd gen trains. The first gen restraints seem to come down during the ride, but the second gen restraints are neutral, and require serious force to push up after the restraints are unlocked. In a sense, Neutral. During the ride, the lapbars never come down, and I have gotten so many rides on second gen trains with probably wayyy too much room, but the train returns to the station with the same amount of room every time (at least for me).

    I've never been bothered by RMC trains. I ride Twisted Timbers all the time, and the restraints are just fine. The lap bar barely comes down during the ride, and I never even notice the shin guards during the ride. I did ride Lighting Rod, and the restraints definitely came down much harder on that ride. I had to hold up the restraint to not get stapled before the first wave turn. I'm not 100% sure if that's because of a difference between the old and new trains, but that's what I assume.

    • @Coaster_Critic
      @Coaster_Critic  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      1st vs 2nd gen trains have a bit of a difference in how much the restraint comes down during the ride (assuming you're not stapled to begin with)

      I found Twisted Timbers to not even be enjoyable. Granted I had ridden Arieforce One (x5), Twisted Cyclone, and Lightning Rod (x3) within 5 days before going to King's Dominion, but Twisted Timbers has so many bunny hills and I've found those to be what cause the most pain on RMCs for me (SV, TT, AF1). We had a group of 4, and not one of us had a good experience with Twisted Timbers. If they had something more comprable to the B&M clamshells or the Intamin restraints on Velocicoaster/Pantheon I think their coasters would be more comftorable for more of its riders (even though some aren't affected by it).

  • @oblivieon1567
    @oblivieon1567 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    There are a couple of things I've noticed. I'm not knocking CF but they seem to have issues with everyone but B&M. They had issues with Intamin, RMC, now Zamperla with their Wild Mouse. It's strikes me as odd. Also it didn't seem to me that RMC had many issues with SF and they bought a ton of them. The early Raptors are prototypes so I can them having issues and the launched woodie was a bad idea. They're not perfect by any means but considering their cost I don't think they're all that unreliable either.

    • @Coaster_Critic
      @Coaster_Critic  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      True, but those 3 manufacturers you mentioned are some of the least reliable/park-friendly. I wouldn't blame CF tbh

      @me-myself-i787 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Plus, Cedar Fair even managed to have an issue with a B&M ride (namely the crack in the support on Fury 325). But thanks to B&M's redundant engineering, it didn't cause any injuries.

    • @Queue_Thrills
      @Queue_Thrills ปีที่แล้ว +6

      That's been my point. At what point does CF just only work with B&M because a new concept/ride has more than 2 issues and then never works with them again? I'm exaggerating of course, but it is a bit of a problem that CF stopped working with RMC after, what, 3 rides? They didn't really give them much of a chance. Meanwhile, SF is perfectly ok with more RMC. It blows my mind. CF had to know what they were doing. Then they have the gall to get mad when the thing that they knew might have issues, *gasp*, has issues. CF kind of needs to get over themselves tbh. They had to know what they were ordering.
      All that said, I do see the maintenance side. RMC can step up their game (and should), if they want to survive. maybe take a page out of Zamperla's book and make everything except for the swing axels a singular milled piece of aluminum or something to help reduce weight and stress. The restraints could also do with a redesign as well.
      TL;DR: CF can be the worst sometimes, but so can RMC.

    lightning rod is just a shit show , way to ambitious ,an incline launch is one of the hardest things to get right and reliable , but they tried it , didn't work and that's okay.
    At least there still making something of it.
    Also the extra downtime on wood to hybrid conversions is something that is to be expected, they survey the exciting structure , add more supports where needed , but dealing with old wood is very unpredictable because of the nature of the material , they cant over engineer the structure to much in the design fase because that would make the ride way more expensive , so the next best thing is to see how it handles real operations and then add extra supports where needed.

    I think each of the major thrill coaster manufacturers has a pro that is also a con.
    RMC is cool because they are a scruffy young manufacturer that came out punching way above their weight. That's cool because we've been given such amazing rides but it's a con because they don't have a enough of a history or portfolio to actually know how to avoid major mistakes with such aggressive projects.
    Intamin is ambitious but perhaps too ambitious. They are willing to try anything or go for any record. As such they've had some similar problems that Arrow had where they had bit off more than they could chew. And while they make great rides, the more ambitious the ride is the less reliable it is. Fortunately, they've been around long enough to learn from mistakes.
    B&M is reliable and predictable. This is great because if your park is getting a B&M you know it'll be good. And your park will be happy because it'll be open. But in being predictable, they generally aren't going to build something that feels unprecedented or unmissable. It'll be great but in most (not all) cases a B&M won't be the star of the show for a major park.
    Vekoma seems to have learned a lot of lessons and that is great. But they still seem to want to be the cheaper B&M where they have a reproducible reliable product but they aren't as flexible with what they can do with that product unless you really pay big bucks.
    I could go on. Gerstlauer wants to be small and compact but they've sort of pigeonholed themselves into that (except in a few European cases.) GCI and Gravity Group make aggressive woodies which is cool but it means they are doomed to become rough very quickly unless a park is willing to invest a ton in maintenance. S&S isn't quite sure what it wants to be so it's either overly cookie cutter or doing something WAY out in left field with no idea what they are doing. MACK is branching out but that also means they're still getting their bearings.

    I can speak to Arie Force 1 since I got to marathon it last year. The quad down isnt really so much a problem, its strong airtime, but it doesn't hurt IMO, however the final break run is a HUGE issue. The last pop of airtime into the final breaks is extremely uncomfortable. I have ridden 80+ coasters and its by far the worst break run I have ever experienced. If it just slammed to a stop it would already be uncomfortable just because it comes in with so much speed but the feeling of still being weightless makes that slam into the bar even more extreme. Otherwise its an incredible ride and is tied with STEVE for me personally.

    something i didnt see mentioned here, is how the restraints of RMC tank the rides capacity. The RMC's i have been on have had both lab bars and seat belts. This combined with the low placement of the ride vehicles means operators have to bend down and check 2 different restraints, which in turn leads to longer time between dispatches. Compare this with Mack for example, who have higher seats, with only one restraints that is easily accessable to ride operators.

    I actually don’t get the complaints about the trains. They aren’t crazy good but there’s nothing really wrong with them. They are free enough so that you can feel the forces and the flawless rmc trackwork means you don’t get rattled around in them either. The lap bars are just lap bars, again not much wrong with them. Sure, they come down during the ride, but there aren’t many restraints that don’t do that. As long as you don’t kick your legs out during the ride, you probably won’t notice the shinguards and I think they just needed something to complain about because rmc is so good

    • @Coaster_Critic
      @Coaster_Critic  15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I disagree. The lap bar is bulky and not padded so the airtime you get hurts and the shin guards press up against my shins horribly to the extent that my legs are in pain the whole ride

TSA literally is a better experience. I absolutely cannot stand getting stapled on Steel Vengeance. I can forgive how hard it is to get the back row but waiting that long in line to have all your hopes and dreams crushed by that ride op is the kind of first world pain that makes you regret having cedar point as your home park.

    The problem with rmc is they use a extremely outdated track design. People act like ibox track is this new advanced design. It's a ancient design, arrow dynamics track is technically more advanced. Ibox track is technically just a thicker version of the old steel track they used on traveling fair coasters like the wild cat, the ba Schaffer wild mouse, the Alan hershal little dipper, they all used "I box track. Problem is a square is terrible at distributing forces so over time it twists and warps. The standard double track rmc coasters will most likly ahe fine but the single rail ones are all going to become rough mechanical nightmares for their parks.

The others Ive been on (Wicked Cyclone, Twisted Colossus, Twisted Timbers, Iron Gwazi, Steel Vengeance, Goliath, and Stunt Pilot) were all enjoyable.
    I have to agree, though...the trains and restraints are really uncomfortable. I think that their rides all use the same bag of tricks over and over, similar to B&M. Didn't really know of the problems behind the scenes just had one problem with downtime on a raptor and weather had been pretty horrible the day before. Well they have become a famous builder might be time for them to outsource their problems and just ask for more money. As fas as the coasters go i haven't ridden a bad RMC yet having said that Those raptors do feel kind of rattly for coasters that are this new so i have to wonder how well they age. As for the constraines i used the be pretty fat and those restrained really hurt on those ejector airtime hills with me bodyfat flapping in and out of the restraines. Now that i lost most of it and be being also not that long the restraines are fine for me. The raptors however have to wide a seating and make my hips cramp up so i need a break after 3 or 4 rides.

    okay, I love the restraints on RMCs and don't find them uncomfortable. Yeah, they aren't as good as B&M Gigas, or give the crazy airtime experience of just a buzz bar, but with how extreme the rides are I don't think they could get away with just a thigh restraint.
    On the comfort side, I have only ridden two, (Steve and Storm Chaser) but found them fine. Especially since I have also felt them done WRONG. Chance Rides' first "Mini Hyper" model at Kentucky Kingdom has nearly identical restraints to RMC, and you can directly compare because there's an RMC in the same park. The difference is, Chance's restraints were pure pain for me, beating up my shins and thighs with every airtime moment like you're describing with RMC.
