Thanks for watching the ad, guys. Appreciate the feature and genuine reactions. Glad to have touched the both of you emotionally. Regarding some of your queries: 1. After fasting in Ramadan, Muslims celebrate Eid. It's the biggest celebration of the year for us. For the past 2 years though, Eid has not been the same due to Covid, at least in Malaysia. 2. This is indeed inspired by a true story of a lady who kept sending food to her late husband's workplace every day for over 35 years after his death. We made some changes to fit in with the current situation (featuring an ambulance driver, a teacher, and a doctor) as a dedication to the frontliners and the families behind them. 3. The end says "A love so deep, could never depart, As pure as a gift right from the heart", followed by the black screen which says "Al-fatihah (from the Quran) in memory of those who are no longer with us this Eid" also as a dedication to the lives lost due to Covid. Some info on the ad:- • *MANGKUK TINGKAT* = Multi-layer/stack-up container; in this case the 3-layers 'green-yellow~ish' food container that she bought for her husband. This container is rarely seen nowadays in real life. • *MAK TEH* - An honorary title (nickname) that given to any women that are the fourth child in their family. 'Mak' is a shorten word for 'Emak' which translated as 'Mom/Mother'... This given nickname are commonly use by people from the old days (I think, nowadays people seldomly use this nickname..Hahaha) • *SAJI* = Is a brand name. Which in the old days are commonly known for a company that manufacture the palm oil for cooking. Nowadays, there are more than just the cooking palm oil product being produce by the company as seen in the ad. • *EID* = As shorten word for 'Eid-ul Fitr' or Aidilfitri in common Malay word. It's the celebration that Muslim held to celebrate the end of fasting month which is called 'Ramadhan'.
In Malaysia, these brands like to compete with each other to produce their own Raya (Eid) advertisement every year. It will be aired on the Eid day. Before, we kind of waiting for Petronas advertisement. Somes are touching stories, some are funny but all really goes into our heart. But now, lots of other brands follow. This "Mangkuk Tingkat" was based on true story. Only that the deceased father was actually a policeman. The wive make it a routine until years back when she fell off the bicycle. So, the children forbid her not to do so again, worry about her safety more. However, because of her determination, one of her children take her to the police station only once a week for her to deliver some simple food like sweets or candy. The mother is already in her 80s now, unable to cook heavy meals like she used to anymore. Everytime I watched this, never fail to cry. Haha.
I've watched this brand commercial many times. I caught all the reactions video of this video. You know... I watched all the Ramadan video every year... this is the best Ramadan video in 2021. Coz ... it's based on true story. It's mentioned in the beginning of the video... you just didn't caught it. The best actors and actress we got. The script is the best. Note. Iftar mean .. fast breaking session. Thanks guys.
I was at my dentist’s waiting room when i first saw this ad. The receptionist and nurse panicked when when i wiped my eyes, nose taking off my mask. When i explained why, they laughed their heads off. And i felt so stupid! 😂😂😂
Last words in the video means Pray to all those left and pass away before us and the arabic word on the Top the words is the name of The first Surah in Holy Quran which means 'The Opener'
The message at the end reads "Al-Fatihah for those who is no longer with us in this Syawal". Al-Fatihah is a chapter in Quran which can be read and dedicated (as prayer) for the deceased ones. Syawal is the holy month after Ramadhan which Muslims celebrate Eid (or Raya).
that is one of the why i love eid month because there is a lot of eid commercial......every year i wait some product produce different type of commercial that is most touch to malaysian culture.
Base on true story. Her husband was a police man and he being killed brutally by the communist in 1973/1975 and his wife keep sending him some food everyday for almost 37 years. She's doing it because she miss her husband so much. Thanks for reacting malaysian ad from saji.
Hi miles and fezz, it was based on true story, the word at last of story is “al fatihah” … it means a title of one of surah in Al Quran, for muslim to recite for all those muslims who already pass away…
Some people from the west think that we still have the 3 country thinking, actually we already implemented critical and creative thing years back in in the promary years of our students. That's why more Malysian appreciate creatives stuffs like this. Since the year of the late Yasmin Ahmad,. She produces great commercials that touch many
Either a sad or funny ads usually will come out every major festival in Malaysia.. usually few days before the festival ( Chinese new year, Hari raya, deepavali, national day ) this kind of advertisment will come and most Malaysia been waiting eager to see it... maybe both of you can react other short video or any Malaysian can suggest it to you guys...
Every year during Eid there will always be this kind of commercial. Eid is basically like Thanksgiving + Christmas....it's the time when we gather as a family, apologize to each other, being more forgiving, being grateful, have a great meal and just have fun as a family. I remember when I was a kid, a commercial for Eid made by a filmmaker named Yasmin Ahmad (unfortunately she has passed many years ago) were always something we always looked forward to. I think Petronas also have been making great commercials for Eid. It's not always sad though (although we definitely have a lot of sad commercials for Eid) but there are also some funny ones
gaizz...This is a true story, very emotional watching it, food advertisement promoting their prodcts thru a TV Comrcial in Msia, it happended in a small town, very remote, called GRIK police station (during the communist occupation in Msia), the mother (Mrs. Saadiah) lost her husband who was brutally killed by the communists, the body was severely tortured, and hanged, Mrs. Saadiah was traumatized since the incident happened, since that day Mrs. Saadiah still cycled 10km frm her home, every day for 37 years to send food to her late husband's workplace at the GRIK police station...couldnt hold ur tears watching this TV Commcial....bravo...2 millions viewers....few day after the launching......bravo Saji Malaysia.....anyway millions thanks to THE COMMODITY fr ur reaction.......
Great ad by Saji that hit directly at your inner core! Plus with the excellent delivery by the actors made it even relatable and emotional to watch. Thank you and well done guys!
I think this 3 time I watch this advertisements story make me cry 😭 hahaaha. Also your mention about netflix. I think in Netflix they had epic movie history and tells. Title "Puteri Gunung Ledang". There is two Culture there you can see it. The Princesses is javanis culture and the admiral warrior is Malay culture. You can see the traditional culture and legend story tells there. I just wanna know how people outside of my country react to the story tells. Tq
This advertisement or short story revolves around a true story that takes place somewhere in Malaysia, it the daily atmosphere in the month of ramadhan when her husband goes to work and the wife cooks at home and sends supplies to her husband’s at work place, what happens is that the wife has experienced a situation she still imagines that her husband is still there, this is because she is very miss her husband who died five years ago. Although I've seen this ad ten times, but I'm still crying bro, their acting is very effective and the atmosphere is so synonymous with people's lives in Malaysia Thank you for your response to this ad
07:25 Doctor came to return the tiffin. Complemented Mak Teh of her delicious cooking. Mak Teh at first replied that was good of her husband to have shared the food with them 07:46 The doctor had asked / was reminding Mak Teh tht her husband has passed 5 years. 08:00 Mak Teh's daughter asked the medical assistance at the clinic if her mother had come to send the food again. Requested them to eat the food at 'iftar' (breaking of fasting) time. 08:33 Mak Teh acknowledged the fact that she misses her late husband. 08:55 Mak Teh promises that as long as she is still alive, she will continue sending food to the clinic
The Commodity - if you watch this clip 02:21 there's a food box (3 layered round food box) is the 'Mangkuk Tingkat' - 'Mak Teh' is the nick name given to the lady/aunt in the scene
Kind of like watching Hatchi the dog waiting for his master coming back from work at the train station in Japan... I've seen this so man times... every time I'm a mess.... Ramadhan is a time for family... and everytime we ty to break our fast with our family... children will travel back to their villages just to eat even once with family... This year has been particularly trying due to the covid movement control... the Ad touches us at every level... Sending food is one thing sending food for breaking fast to people working at the frontline who cannot be with their family... cooked by a wife or a mother is quite another... Btw Malaysians live to eat... rarely do we eat to live... 🤣🤣🤣
Tangkap nangis Abang Mat Saleh.. Kalian berdua mempunyai hati yang lembut , Amerika bertuah mempunyai rakyat seperti kalian. Tq for React this Iklan Raya 21✌️😎☝️
I personally post this ads in my FB because I like the concept, ideas and at overall product. I was once in Advertising commercial, appreciated it so much.
Not sure if Iftar was explained already as requested at 4:03, but its the meal Muslims have at dusk to mark the end of a fasting day. But yeah, kudos to SAJI for using the story as an inspiration, and thanks to @The Commodity for picking this up. And yeah, there are quite a number of very capable story-writers in Malaysia who can produce similarly 8:44 "tough food commercials!"
You guys guess it correctly even watching it for 2 minutes only...idk what happen in this video until the last part & make me wanna cry even it short video
Every year there will be a ton of raya commercial esp from TNB & Petronas. They never let us down. Due to Malaysia multi cultures, other festival also have their commercial. Plus Independence/Malaysia Day commercial.
Next time The Commodity should react to "Operasi Koperasi". And also videos like this really makes us realize how important our families to all of us. The last part was said " Al-Fatihah (in the Al-quran -Muslim's Holy Bible-) for the people who lose their beloved ones.😔 Even though they are gone but they're not completely gone if you still remember them , in your mind and heart.🙂
This is based on a true story..the real story was happened in Gerik Police Station, Perak. Her husband worked as a police officer and was tortured and killed by a communist in early 70s (i think, i forgot the year). She keeps on sending foods for her husband to the police station (after her husband's death) for more than 30 years. For this ad, they changed it a little bit to ambulance driver to suit the current pandemic situation. TQ both of u..
@The Commodity at 9:48, Phezz you asked about the tagline "kasih tulus, kekal abadi, seikhlas hadiah dari hati". So loosely translated it means Everlasting and Heartfelt Love, Brings out the Sincerest Gifts.. something like that.
this ad is about cooking oil. SAJI is the brand. but they relate it with daily life of that family.. its very touching.. the last was a verses in Quran that the muslim read when we perform our daily pray as duaa and as gift to those who already pass away..
The Commodity, this is an advert for Raya festival which is after ramadhan comming to Shawal a festival for Malays, Malaysia comes from Malay, so a festival celebrated by Malays in Malaysia, so it supposed to touch hearts, where celebrations are supposed to be celebrated together with the entire family, tjis advert shows "Mak Reh"= the aunty has cooked for her late husband before till his death. Becaused of her missed her late husband, she have allways prepared meals for during ramadhan and send it to where he works. She kept doing so up to 5 years after his death. Hope this can clear your understanding of the adver.
Before pandemic we do celebrate by visiting our families and neighbouring, open house here and there. It really fun. Especially when we were kids... missed all those moment
10:08 الفلوجة : Al-Fatihah (the 1st verse of the Al-Quran) most being recited & dedicated to those whom have passed especially during the month of Islamic month of Syawal (as literally translated off the bottom caption)
Appreciate your review and insights! Hi Guys Sharing some side info - The wife - Teh The hubby - Din The daughter is a teacher - thus 'cikgu' Culturally we call the elderly 'Abang' (for men) or 'Mak' or Auntie' (for women). 'Mangkuk' is the container for takeaway meal. 'Tingkat' is multi level. Saji is a name fora few cooking products and also a cordial drink. Iftar is breaking of fast at sunset. Mak Teh was preparing Abang Din's favorite meal for iftar but since he had to work late shift, she said she will send some takeaway to him at the clinic. That was the last time they see of him. He died in an accident in the rain. 'Eid' is celebration at end of ramadan. The doc and male nurse came to visit Mak Teh on the eve of eid. You can hear the sound of eid prayers in the background. This is based on a true story. While we are blessed to hv the opportunity to spend Eid or Christmas with our loved ones. Some are not so lucky. She still thinks her husband is still alive. This advertisement is to remind how lucky we are to be able to be among family in such times and not take their presence for granted.
As Eid ul Fitr or Hari Raya, (as popularly known here in Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei and Indonesia) is approaching during the last few days of Ramadhan, Muslims here will be busy and excited with all the festive preparations and expectations. After going through the spiritual challenges of the annual holy month of Ramadhan with all the special prayers, charity works, lack of sleep, fasting, self control / discipline, be mindful & patient and various other acts of worships, the emergence of Eid though festive, will also be celebrated with loads of self reflections, gratitude, forgiveness and acts of kindness to oneself, loved ones and the community. More of joy in piety to the Almighty Creator. So emotional commercials like this towards the end of Ramadhan are so appropriate in my opinion.
"Mangkuk Tingkat Mak Teh" - Mangkuk Tingkat : Tiffin / Food Container - Mak Teh : The elderly lady's name Storyline : She cooks for her husband, who's hospital ambulance driver, his fav dish. She sends the food everyday to the hospital She's in fact in grief of losing her husband.
its inspired by a true story waaa :( makes me cries more may her placed in Jannah for her good deed, by giving food to the people at her late husband's workplace.. and to her late husband as well
At the very last part with Arabic word it says "AlFatihah for those who are no longer with us this Syawal" AlFatihah = a page from Al-Quran, we recite every day for many reasons. One of them is as a "gift" to those who passed away. "Syawal" = the 10th month of Islamic calendar, comes right after Ramadan, the 9th month. Eid is a celebration we have during Syawal. "Iftar" = basically 'dinner' after fasting during the day. *Continue reading if you're still confused with our fasting...* We fast during the 9th month of Islamic calendar which is called "Ramadhan". During Ramadan, we DO NOT STARVE ourselves for a whole month. We actually eat everyday. We eat breakfast BEFORE sunrise, we fast throughout the day (skip lunch), and we have "Iftar" AFTER sunset. We can eat & drink as much as we want at night, until the next sunrise come, and we repeat everyday for a month.
Wow.!. I'm impressed.. You guys manage to guess the storyline correctly...Anyway such Nice & honest reaction guys.. really appreciate it.. By the way..'IFTAR' does not refer to the end of month Ramadan but it is actually the meal we have to break the fast on that day after sunset. Everybody are looking forward for it ..it's like the highlight for the day..usually the table will be full with scrumptious dishes...🙂..therefore it's not weird if some might even gained weight during Ramadan!😅
It's a special festive commercial for family love & togetherness ... the meaning of unshown endurance in a month of Ramadhan, the ad was probably aired on the last day of Ramadhan( the evening when family members were present together to thank The Almighty.
First of all.. Tqsm for the reaction... SAJI is a cooking oil product and others related to food n drinks. The story is about a family.. A couple living during ramadhan.. Initially.. A old couple rutin in every year during ramadhan. Mak teh.. Name of the wife of pak teh.. (mr & mrs teh).. Which pak teh is a ambulance driver but sadly he has passaway 5 year ago. Thier daughter knows that her mom keep sending food for her husband for breaks the fasting.... & this tear the clinic has a new doctor.. N he return the mangkuk tingkat ( multi level container).. The doctor is touch n try to remind mak teh to telling her that pak teh is dead 5 years ago... When he returned the container... So that in the earlier of the advertisement.. She was preparing pak teh.. favourite foods... Was a illusion of the past.. She missed her husband terribly.. N by doing (sending the food...) is to remembering of her late husband... Every time i watch.. I definitely crys... If you having sense of love.. You will cry too. And the this is advertisement is base on a true story which state inthe beginning.. "satu kisah benar /base on a true story... Won't you feel sad.. Missing your love ones during.. Christmas.. Same goes to mak teh...
hahha you should watch all malaysian Raya or eid fitri advertising. just search "iklan raya". the older the ads the classic it get. so to sad some to funny.. it like a tradition every year and competition which is more affecting by each category.. comedic, sad, families. arghh so many theme..
This is Eid commercial. Malaysia has many good Eid commercial which aired during ramadhan & eid and most are very emotional. some are fun but meaningful. Btw Eid = Hari Raya = After month of Ramadhan
As Malaysian we always waiting of brand ad..not only Hari Raya but Chinese New Year, Depavali and Independence Day...its a worthy waiting....always emotional...
Hi Phezz & Miles... Thanks for reaction this video.. Looks both of you enjoyed... It's was based on trued story... And.. Surah Al Fatihah is the first surah in the Al Quran, and is recited for those who have passed away... From me, Malaysia 🌹🇲🇾
This comercial from real story about mak teh. She keep sending food for her husband who already passed away. Her late husband is police who killed by communist. She keep sending food to her late husband at his office for 35 years. Sadly, mak teh already dead last year 😭
we have tonnes of tearjerking telemovies especially in the 90's and early 2000. Nowadays it can be a hit or miss, however there are newer telemovies that have good storylines, reminiscent of the old days, while incorporating newer elements. They also sometimes add some interesting plot twists, which rarely present in older ones.
The container used is called a tingkat, which is frequently used in Southeast Asia. In South Asia, they have something similar called dabbas, and from what I understand, tingkat came from that. Each layer will usually contain a dish (sometimes including a soup), so how many layers you have will be how many dishes you get (one layer is usually reserved for rice, but within that, you might put some pickles or a bit of vegetables too).

Most major companies do these kind of ads during Eid which is at the end of Ramadan. It's to try bring emotion and make people feel more Malaysian.
I was at my dentist’s waiting room when i first saw this ad. The receptionist and nurse panicked when when i wiped my eyes, nose taking off my mask. When i explained why, they laughed their heads off. And i felt so stupid! 😂😂😂
its not stupid..that really shows how a small gestures that triggers the emotion..
I wont cry...i feel u.....
It does make me cry too coz it reflect the depth of her love to her husband
U are not stupid but being very human. The nurses might cried themsellves sould they sit n watch. I do again and again
Last words in the video means Pray to all those left and pass away before us and the arabic word on the Top the words is the name of The first Surah in Holy Quran which means 'The Opener'
We all cry together now. Damn. What did u miss Phezz? The last bit was " For those who are no longer with us this Syawal" love you guys~
They usually do this kind of commercials every Raya (Syawal). Heart wrenching kind.. keep looking for Petronas Raya commercials
@@adelefletcher7654 I haven't see it big sis and you said it and abt to make me cry :(
@@adelefletcher7654 and I haven't eat my breakfast yet :(

This advert is actually based on a true story. The widow still send food to the police station until today. (btw the husband was an ex-cop)
Actually her husband was kill in the line of duty, by the Communist terrorists.
It is not Police Station. It is a clinic.
Glad tou guys like it☺️👍
The message at the end reads "Al-Fatihah for those who is no longer with us in this Syawal".
You're right 😭
So touchy
07:25
Doctor came to return the tiffin. Complemented Mak Teh of her delicious cooking.
Mak Teh at first replied that was good of her husband to have shared the food with them
07:46
The doctor had asked / was reminding Mak Teh tht her husband has passed 5 years.
08:00
Mak Teh's daughter asked the medical assistance at the clinic if her mother had come to send the food again.
Requested them to eat the food at 'iftar' (breaking of fasting) time.
08:33
Mak Teh acknowledged the fact that she misses her late husband.
08:55
Mak Teh promises that as long as she is still alive, she will continue sending food to the clinic
The Commodity - if you watch this clip 02:21 there's a food box (3 layered round food box) is the 'Mangkuk Tingkat' - 'Mak Teh' is the nick name given to the lady/aunt in the scene
its okay to cry bro... it makes you human. Honestly, I also cried watching this iklan raya...
I m still watching this video huhuhu crying everytime
Do you that the 'Mak Teh' (mother) character was one of the renounce journalist in Malaysia named Fatimah Abu Bakar.
She's also a renowned actress 😊
Actually her English is near perfect,, she speaks English fluently
Her daughter is Sharifah Amani ...
Heheh, yeah that definitely touched a cord in my heart too, btw that is my Aunt , and she really nailed it, it was my first time watching it too 😊👍
Great congratulations to Fati...she knows how we all admire her, in dramas, and past ads. She's really talented and her daughters too.

Every year there will be a ton of raya commercial esp from TNB & Petronas. They never let us down. Due to Malaysia multi cultures, other festival also have their commercial. Plus Independence/Malaysia Day commercial.
The commercial is based from true story and the lady is still alive today. Great reaction video guys 👍🏼
The one thing they don't tell you about these kinds of ads; the legion of onion-cutting ninjas they deploy every time you watch it.
Baby, you don't need onion & knife to make one cries; it's enough with the purest intention from the heart
I'm crying too.. since my dad pass away 4 years ago.. and it seems he is around us! Watching us from above!😭
oh my i didnt expect this to happen towards the end. this is a good commercial.
I ve watched this like hundred times but still cry everytime I watch😭😭...thanks for the reaction💜🇲🇾
Its touching..We miss our loved ones during Raya festival..memories sad and happy..memories make us look alive and we miss them..
Yes i cried too
I lost my husband too.. so this kind of story always makes me cry.
@The Commodity at 9:48, Phezz you asked about the tagline "kasih tulus, kekal abadi, seikhlas hadiah dari hati". So loosely translated it means Everlasting and Heartfelt Love, Brings out the Sincerest Gifts.. something like that.
Damn. I'm crying too. Thanks really for the suggestions 😭
Every time I watch it, I cry. It reminds me of my late youngest brother
this ad is about cooking oil. SAJI is the brand. but they relate it with daily life of that family.. its very touching..
the last was a verses in Quran that the muslim read when we perform our daily pray as duaa and as gift to those who already pass away..
Such an emotional eid adv ever. I could not hold my tears watching it. The message is deep. Tq for your reaction.
This is based on true life events according to the beginning of the video.
I'm crying too...the actors so good...😭😭
Each time I watched this advert..i will cried..
In indonesia we called RANTANG
I didn't realize there was this commercial. My 1st time watching it. I teared up when the lady speaks with tears.
I m in tears....so sad 😘😘
Before pandemic we do celebrate by visiting our families and neighbouring, open house here and there. It really fun. Especially when we were kids... missed all those moment
10:08
الفلوجة : Al-Fatihah
(the 1st verse of the Al-Quran) most being recited & dedicated to those whom have passed especially during the month of Islamic month of Syawal (as literally translated off the bottom caption)
The old lady in that short movie was an English teacher / English lecturer. Mangkuk Tingkat Mak Teh means Mak Teh's Tiffin
Appreciate your review and insights!
Hi Guys
Sharing some side info -
The wife - Teh
The hubby - Din
The daughter is a teacher - thus 'cikgu'
Culturally we call the elderly 'Abang' (for men) or 'Mak' or Auntie' (for women).
OMG...Can't stop crying..very good story..very good acting..salute
I cant stop crying 😭😭
Thumbs-up... you guys can feel the emotional even before the video-clip finish
"Mangkuk Tingkat Mak Teh"
- Mangkuk Tingkat : Tiffin / Food Container
- Mak Teh : The elderly lady's name
Storyline : She cooks for her husband, who's hospital ambulance driver, his fav dish. She sends the food everyday to the hospital
She's in fact in grief of losing her husband.
its inspired by a true story waaa :( makes me cries more
may her placed in Jannah for her good deed, by giving food to the people at her late husband's workplace.. and to her late husband as well
At the very last part with Arabic word it says "AlFatihah for those who are no longer with us this Syawal"
AlFatihah = a page from Al-Quran, we recite every day for many reasons. One of them is as a "gift" to those who passed away.
"Syawal" = the 10th month of Islamic calendar, comes right after Ramadan, the 9th month. Eid is a celebration we have during Syawal.
"Iftar" = basically 'dinner' after fasting during the day.
*Continue reading if you're still confused with our fasting...*
We fast during the 9th month of Islamic calendar which is called "Ramadhan".
Thanks you Sir,for react to this is.🇲🇾❤️❤️❤️😀
Dear,
That red drink is called syrup rose...its readuy made syrup where u add some water n can add lime too...
number two
I cried already
Me also cry....thanks for reaction🙏🙏🙏
Eventhough I've watched this video so many times...at the end it still make me cry 😭😭😭
Iftar - end of fast of the day..
OMG! That made me teared too 🙂
4:02 Actually it is not the end of Ramadan but it's called Iftar (Breaking Fast) during month of Ramadan.😁
This comercial from real story about mak teh. She keep sending food for her husband who already passed away. Her late husband is police who killed by communist. She keep sending food to her late husband at his office for 35 years. Sadly, mak teh already dead last year 😭
Nice reaction..... I appreciate it
we have tonnes of tearjerking telemovies especially in the 90's and early 2000.
Mangkuk tingkat Mak Teh= Mak Teh's tiffin
You should react other commercial from Petronas and other brands..there's a lot of short commercial from the past years. Every year we've waited for the Eid commercial.
