Ok, to answer all question. Malaysia is a federation of 14 states (including the Federal Territories) as seen on the initial 14 flags you see in the beginning of the video. The Yellow Flag is the royal standard (personal flag) of the King of Malaysia (Yang Dipertuan Agong, literally translated to The Supreme Ruler). 9 of the 14 states have their own traditional Sultan/Raja/Yang Dipertuan Besar (each translated to King). And yes, each of them are equal to each others and they have their own constitutional duties in each of their state. These 9 Kings make the Conference of Rulers, which elect among themselves to be the King of Malaysia for 5 years term. The King of Malaysia is a constitutional monarch (same system as the UK with Queen Elizabeth II), which means their power is limited to the provision inside the Constitution of Malaysia. Most of it are just ceremonial duties (head of religion, supreme commander of the armed forces, etc. Malaysia also is a Parliamentary Democracy nation. Every 5 years, we will elect representatives for the Parliament at national level, and State Assembly for each respective state (Parliament equivalent to the Congress and the State Assembly equivalent to the State Legislature in the US). The King of Malaysia will choose the Prime Minister(PM) while the kings will choose the Chief Minister (CM) for their own state. The PM and the CMs are usually the Leader of Party that won the majority, or have the majority support by the members of the House. Then, with the advice from the PM/CM, the Kings will choose the Members of Cabinet from both Lower and Upper House of the Parliament. While the King of Malaysia can prorogue (postpone) and dissolve the Parliament, it is must by the advice of the PM, usually at the end of term or when the PM lost the majority support. The dissolve of Parliament will be followed by General Election. The King is the Head of the Nation but the PM is the Head of Government. The PM have the executive power, similar to POTUS. So, in short, Malaysia is a constitutional monarchy with parliamentary democracy, similar Westminster System like the UK, with an added Conference of Rulers that take turn to become the King of Malaysia. And yes, the Queen can be from the ordinary people and was not born royalty.

Malaysia & Brunei are really close in relationship. Other than the royal families; in Malaysia we have a 'Malaysian Games' or in malay Sukan Malaysia (SUKMA). Its a national multi-sport event (just like olympic) among all states in Malaysia. The best part is; Brunei Darussalam also join the sport and competing with other states in Malaysia.
I love Malaysia. I love our System of Sultanates and am proud that we're one of the last countries in the world with so many Sultanates un one country.
8:17 He's the Crown Prince of Pahang. His father is the current Yang di-Pertuan Agong. Essentially, while the Sultan of Pahang is taking the role of Yang di-Pertuan Agong of Malaysia, the heir/crown Prince will step up to take the role of Regent of the the state. Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah was still in the middle of his training at Sandhurst Royal Military Academy when his father was elected to be Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
Hello guys!! Sorry for being late, and I just want to say, thank you very, very much for reacting to my suggestion!! I'm glad that you guys learnt so many new things about our Constitutional Monarchy and I also believe the comment down here also help explained to you guys as well! I hope you two have a wonderful day! Terima kasih!
The King, who is ‘elected’ by the Conference of Rulers (the Sultans and heads of States), will reign for 5 yrs. And the King (also known as The Yang DiPertuan Agong (YDPA)), is not an absolute monarchy like the Sultan of Brunei. He is more like Queen Elizabeth, a Constitutional Monarchy. As for his power to dissolve parliament, it’s used to prepare for the general election, every 5 yrs. However, if you guys so inclined, do read up on the political and constitutional crisis regarding the Prime Minister of Malaysia and the politics these past few months. The YDPA had a big role in resolving it.
All the Malay Rulers@King mostly has served in the army and graduated from Military Collage. For example The Sultan Of Johor graduated from Fort Benning, Georgia and Fort Bragg, Nort Corolina. Royal Prince of Pahang (young and handsome) graduate from Sandhurst Military Collage UK. King@Malay Rulers are Chief In Command of the Malaysian Armed Force, that why lots of military personnel involved
They are dressed like marine because the “nusantara”( including Malaysia,Brunei, indonesia) are the only contries that refer their homeland as ‘tanah air’(land and seas) unlike other countries that refers them as motherland/fatherland. During the old days the malays ability to sail were top notch. They dont even need compasses to sail the world but only uses the nature signs such as the constellation, wind, direction of the birds flying, density of the waters etc. So thats why they are dressed like the marines. Hope this answers your question🤜🏾
To the question of hereditary of the Royals in most states in Malaysia, it is in accordance to agnatic primogeniture which is the First male-born legitimate child of the Ruler are set to inherit the Throne. This is the custom of 7 of the states in Malaysia with the exception of the State of Perak and Negeri Sembilan where there is a rotation between the eldest son of each branch of their respective Royal Families.
@@norisahyussup3850 Hence my explanation: "......agnatic primogeniture which is the First male-born legitimate child of the Ruler are set to inherit the Throne"
The Sultan Of Brunei Also there because he is also a member of Malay Kings Council (Participate In "Malay Nation stuff" because he is also a Malay Sultan just diff country) but in this case he is a special guest because Pertabalan Yang-Dipertuan Agong is a formal ceremony where one of Malay Sultan(of Malaysia) is Choosen as the Highest Ruler of Malaysia
His Higness will never take bribes, bc the bribes may just worth nothing to him. He is just not live in wealth but wealth live in him. Fyi, Sultan Abdullah is one of the most generous and down to earth king, he shared his wealth to the people and Queen Aminah used to always get involve with the people with cooking activities, aiding natural disaster affected people etc
The king can disolve the parliament when his majesty was appointed/by advide of the prime minister.Or the government in bad situation. After the king disolve the parliament, the new member of parliament will be chosen again by people. So that means there will be a general election after the king disolve the parliament to appoint the new member of parliament (MP).
For general knowledge The meaning of Duli means "Dust" or "dust" .... Therefore "Duli Yang Maha Mulia" means the King who is enthroned, no matter how wide the colony is, it is just like dust on the side of God Almighty ... As for "Paduka "That means" Slippers "while" His Majesty "is the Prophet Muhammad SAW .... Meaning of "Your Majesty" -Therefore "Seri Paduka Baginda" means the powerful King, even though a mountain of ten quality gold has many properties, it is just a slipper to cover the feet of the Prophet, the messenger of God Almighty ...... This is the uniqueness and richness of English And just share it for anyone who doesn’t already know what that means DYMM - Your Majesty
Yep, most of the decorations (the sash, medals, collar etc.) are conferred due to military service. But some are conferred because of meritorious civil service.
This will be lengthy. I hope it helps. - To understand why Malaysia have 9 Kings, we have to start from the beginning for the 'Union'. The Federation of Malaysia was basically started when 4 different sultanates (Kingdoms) of Selangor, Perak, Negeri Sembilan and Pahang combined into a Federation formerly known as 'Federated Malay States (FMS) in 1896. This was during the colonial procterate of British. So, it was like 4 different kingdoms or countries combined into 1 and formed new country. Then after WW2 in 1948, the FMS expanded into 'The Malay Federation ' when another 5 Sultanates(kingdom) plus 2 British Straits Settlement (Melaka and Penang dont have sultans or kings) in the Peninsular joined the union and make it as a federation of 11 States. The formation of this union actually helps to get independence from British in 1957 and then the 3rd Federation which is The Federation of Malaysia (current Federation) was formed in 1963 when Sabah ,Sarawak and Singapore joined. (Sabah and Sarawak also dont have Sultan and kings, Singapore left in 1965) . -- So, the legacy of 9 Sultans is still preserves until now and they have their own Council wjhich Majlis Raja-Raja (The Table Of Kings, Council of Kings, Royal Councils, Conference of Rulers) which also known as The Durbar and the 1st Durbar started in 1897 in Perak . In the 1st Durbar , the Chief of the Kings was elected but after the Independence in 1957, the system changed into rotations where every 9 Sultans /Kings from each sultanate states have the chance to become the 'Agong ', ( Supreme Head or King of The Kings) and to become Head Of State for whole Federation and supreme commander in the Armed Forces,Royal Malaysian Police force and also the federal civil service. Also all Malaysian citizens in the Federation ,regardless which states are under his responsibility. This is stated in 1st page of the Malaysian passport. - So, The current Federation have 9 Sultans (hereditary Monarchs) and 4 Yang Di Pertua Negeri (Head Of States) which are not hereditary and will be appointed by the Royal Councils. It is similar like the role Governor General of Canada (represent the Queen of England) where the Yang Di Pertua Negeri represent the Agong . Both are above the Menteri Besar or Chief Minister (Politicians) of the states (equivalent to Governor in US). For states who have sultans and kings, the 'governor' are called Menteri Besar and non sultanate states are called as Ketua menteri (Chief Minister). FYI, the Agong, kings and sultan also need to cast their vote during General Elections. - In Malaysian Administration system, The Agong and The Royal Council is considered above the Prime Minister and Cabinet but they are still bound to The Constitution and parliaments where they cannot really intervene inside the administration unless for any signing for legislative and law bills. This is to ensure the democratic system still prevail. Also they ,especially The Agong have to 'gently' interfere when there are some political crisis just like previously in Malaysia. So in the nutshell, The Agong and his Royal Council, are considered as the 'safety layer' or 'buffer zone' for the Government in Malaysia if the shit hit the fan, so the country will still run smoothly if there is a vacuum in the power (for example, No Prime minister or cabinets or no ruling political party in charge) and to avoid riot or anarchy.
There are 14 states in Malaysia (inclusive of one Federal Territory which is like your DC in the States) and of the 14 states, 9 states have hereditary rulers with 4 states having Governors. The Federal Territory is under the purview of the Federal Government.
It seems like they have a lot of power, but not really. Like dissolving parliament, its only upon the advice of the prime minister and there must be legitimate reasons according to the constitution. If not it will create a constitutional crisis. The royals have been very pragmatic in exercising their powers, but only recently when the govenrment has very slim majority and we have changed government many times that their role looked significant.
YDPA totally has the power to dissolve the parliment by advice of prime minister... then YDPA usually call all the Raja-Raja Melayu to get some advice from all the state rulers for what to do next based on Perlembagaan Malaysia (the highest law in Malaysia). From my view it is imposible to bribe YDPA in this process because at the end of the story... Prime Minister selection still made based on parliment majority...YDPA can select Prime Minister that Agong think that he has the mejority in the parliment...Usually Agong will call all the members of parliment to know who they want to be next Prime Minister....there are others way for Agong to select PM based on Perlembagaan Malaysia...it depand on YDPA wisdom....yes people can bribe the member of parliment but not YDPA tht my point...btw tq for react our system bro..hahaha

Flying fox Natural for any Singapore leader to have a cordial relationship with the Sultan of Johor. Just like West Kalimantan Governor is friendly with SarawakChief Minister
Yes the agung (YDPA) can dissolve the parliament but at the advisemen of the Prime Minister and then call for elections....then the party who have the most votes will become the government, they submit a name or more for the PM post, and once the ydpa agreed on who, he will proclaim the chosen one as PM, the PM then choose the cabinet ministers and submit the list to the YDPA and as per agreement of both parties, they will be appointed

Each of the Sultan ruled each of the countries in Malaysia, every five years they have to take turn to be the YDPA. The young prince take over Pahang as Sultan meanwhile his father's take turn to become Agung for 5 years. All the prince have to serve and send to learn as a student in the military College before the became prince or before becoming Sultan.
About the pins and badges. The Sultan (King or Crown Prince) will get them when they visits other states on official visit. In average they will receive about 9 medals including of their local state medal. Some of them will carry the badge received from other part of the world i.e from Queen Elizabeth, King of Denmark, Saudi Kingdom etc. Same goes for the Military badges. Each and every Sultan serves as the highest Commander in the Military. i.e The sultan of Selangor is the Commander of Navy, Sultan of Pahang - Air force, Sultan of Johor - Commandos and special task force...and the rest. They also receive medallions from other countries as well whenever they are leading Military exercise between countries.

Dismantling parliment had just happened quite recently, while the forever opposition took place as government and the country quite in chaos bc the gov at that time failed to manage the country, and one of the most sensitive and fragile issues of the country is the sovereignty of Malay, and the gov at that time used to provoke the issue and the country is not in right hand and Sultan Abdullah had to make a big decision to appoint new prime minister and the prime minister had to appoint his cabinet members. If you wonder how it can happen, it happened.
Dismantling Parliament ?!?!? When ?!?!? The only thing I see is the Prime Minister and Ministrial Cabinet resign in accordance to the Constitution of Malaysia.

As for the question of the power of the rulers, yes - each ruler are the apex of each of their respective state govt as Head of State but not the Head of State Govt which is held by the Menteri Besar of each state. There are some states which call their ruler different name like for instance Perlis where His Highness are known as The Raja of Perlis (Raja) and the Negeri Sembilan where His Highness are known as the Yang Di-Pertuan Besar. The rest of the states where Their Highnesses are known as Sultan. The 'King of Malaysia' which the proper name is the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong are rotated amongst the 9 rulers every 5 years. The rotation of the states have been set by the first round so there won't be any changes the following rounds of rotation.
FYI: For the consort for the state king, they not always from royal descend. Some of them are just a normal people married with the king. One of them is Queen Norashikin Abdul Rahman wife and consort to Sultan of Selangor. She was originally a news presenter on our national television. Also Sultanah Nur Zahirah, wife and consort to Sultan of Terengganu are also not from royal family originally but got married with Mizan Zainal Abidin of Terengganu.
im malaysia seriusly i didn't know brunei involved in agong appointment.. yeah i know brunei also part of ' kesultanan melayu'.. yeah im ashamed myself
That is the problem with short subtitles presented within constrained time limits; it may contribute to the wrong interpretation. The Federal Constitution lays out under what circumstances Parliament can be dissolved and who can be appointed the Prime Minister etc. So far, Malaysians especially those of the Malay race have huge respect for the King and the state Rulers that, push come to shove, will transcend political considerations.
The king are the original ruler and to all the states in Malaysia and called Tanah Melayu before Malaya( British gave this name) and Malaysia when we merge with Sabah and Sarawak
I don't think there's misinterpretation. They understood it perfectly. It's just that it never happened in Malaysia, I don't think there will ever be a day where it will. Had you seen what happened in Thailand? So if anything happened, the King really do have the power to dissolve parliament and had his military took over. There will be no election and the military will be the one in power. Who leads the military? The King. However... I believe there's a reason for this just so nobody can overpowered anybody in ruling so that there's no corruption but very unfortunately sometimes stuff like this can backfired badly like what had been happening in our neighbouring country.
17:50 Malaysia practices Parliamentary Democracy with Constitutional Monarchy and His Majesty The King as the Paramount Ruler. When Yang di-Pertuan Agong dissolved the parliament, a fresh general election has to be held to elect representatives for the House of Representatives. Without the Parliament, where would not be a Government, just like in the UK. He is actually giving back the mandate to the people to select their representatives. This has never happens, yet.
The flags thatbare unfurled after the arrival of each sultans/representatives are the royal flags/crest..... The states have different flags.... And we have 13 states and 3 federal territtories (so the 14th point of the star and stripe is depicting the federal territory) .... 9 of this states has a royal ruler called sultan/raja/yam tuan besar.... The other 4 have governors (yang dipertua negeri)
To answer your last question .. the Agong intervention only came in when the Parliament can't come up with a "worthy" Prime Minister and member of Parliament. As you know Malaysia is having a great political turmoil and there's lots of "misbehavings" amongst it's members. That's when the Agong came in to give his last say and veto on whom should run the country.
They are all the king for the state and the Yang Dipertuan Agong is the head of state that take turn every five year to be the head of the Federation of Malaysia.
The kings got their own pensions, salary n also has their own bussiness...since the nations independence kings seems to be not involved in politics n pragmatic..they we can say just a symbolism n largely ceremonial, where can balance power in politics n military n also retain countrys stability by the only person can proclaim emegency n dissolve parliament according to constitution n laws
Pertabalan = Coronation. 13 flags representing 13 states. 9 states with sultans + 4 states with Yang DiPertua (Yang DiPertua are not sultans but their job functions are similar. Their positions are appointments and are not hereditary unlike sultans).
Im telling you, the installation of Malaysia King (Malaysian Leader) quite unique.. Its mostly same as your USA presidential inauguration... Every country have their unique identity of installation/coronation/inauguration/election.. Thailand, Japan, UK, have their own coronation... Just for your info Malaysia 🇲🇾 & United Arab Emirates 🇦🇪 the only country establish federal constitution monarch that different is Malaysia still have democracy people can voting in election to choose prime minister while UAE don't have it... By the way, every state leader have a chance to be leader of the country of Malaysia...😉
they have equal power and same level all are the king. Your logic is correct. Yang Dipertuan Agong YDPA just the choosen one between all them to be a representative.

The king is the supreme commander of armed forces, meaning he controls the military. That’s because if Malaysia’s politic hit the fan, there will not be any insurgencies since no politicians can take control of the military, only the king can. That’s why we Malays, our loyalties lies to the king, not the politicians.
I think all kings belonged to a troop/army forces of their own. hence all the badges on their shoulders. in regards to black or white formal suit, i think it has to do with which army forces they belonged to, as all states have different forces. basically Malaysia is a country of multiple "kingdoms" united as one, thats why there are things that segregated. i do not know the specifics I got C for History, but that is the simple way to explain. some of the royal families are related - cross marriage and all. For example, (i simplify the titles) the representative of Johor (Tunku Idris @ 5:25) is actually nephew of the current Main Queen, who is actually little sister of Sultan Johor, which makes Tunku Idris and Tengku Hassanal (8:50) cousins. ofc they can marry normal people too but they dont really mixed with commoners though. For each state, the thrones are passed through bloodline, while Parliament (ministers) thru election. once these politicians win election, they have to meet the kings and then the kings will formally assign them for their respective position. basically the people vote, and the king has to accept the result. the kings, in general, will not interfere with the country's ruling, else than regarding religious matter and some other (which im not well verse, im sorry). so far that i know of, KINGS has only given official warnings to the politician/government when they do not perform / cause trouble (basically causing people outrage/to suffer), never to the extend of dissolving the whole government (in which means the country is in critical condition), which is good i guess (?)
The Sultan is like the most important piece on a chess board. This system can prevent something like Coup d'etat (like in Turkey), corrupted politician that sell of the country for their own use like some part in Africa. Whenever the politics is destabilising, Agong/Sultan will step in. Sultan influence is different from politician influence. Sultan earn people's trust and loyalty while politician doesn't. Sultan and their heirs also goes through higher academical education and they also served and trained in military. They're the pillars who hold this country from falling apart. Some people doubt their power but they owned this land before.
A few titbits on the Royals... the more vocal ones are the Johor heir to the throne, the Selangor Sultan and the Perak Sultan. They tend to come up to tick off politicians when they feel that the politicians aren't doing their job properly. One good thing about having these monarchs is that they help to keep the politicians in line. Not sure if all of them are but they go to Sandhurst Academy to study. The Sultan of Perak is a phd holder. He went to Oxford and Harvard. His father once served as a Malaysian judge all the way to the highest judicial post. Sometimes the Sultans do marry between the Royal houses such as the current King whose wife is the sister of the Sultan of Johor.
In the past, they usually married among the royals between the states or countries. Usually for political reasons. But this practice has been abandoned by the young royals. They can marry commoner.
Great job bruh 👍

The best part is; Brunei Darussalam also join the sport and competing with other states in Malaysia.

Sultan of Brunei is very close to all Sultans in Malaysia
I love Malaysia. I love our System of Sultanates and am proud that we're one of the last countries in the world with so many Sultanates un one country.
The state of Kedah is one of the oldest monarchies in the world established more than a thousand years ago.
Yeap. Best comment to summarize it. Up!
True

Tq hope you like it.. We r proud to have an oldest monarch institution

Bcos it's malay heritage

King is one .. the other is sultan .. sultan is the ruler
That was a 1960s rolls royce phantom btw,the one the Sultan of Selangor pulled up in. The older models didnt all have coach doors 😊
