Among all these worthy memorials I'd like to remember my beautiful grandmother, Mary Kennedy. She passed away at 90 this year and was the personification of the word kind. She was a devoted wife, a wonderful mother of three and grandmother of five, and a loving sister and daughter. Mary was the sweetest, most dedicated and giving person you could get to know. She worked in the airline industry during the Mad Men days and enjoyed a good crossword puzzle and an episode of Wheel of Fortune later in life. Please remember her among all those we sadly lost this year. She's always in our hearts.
Blessed Mrs. Mary Kennedy. Rest well, sweet lady. @route99 I wish you peace & comfort in your grief. I hope you are able to recall precious moments spent with your wonderful grandmother. Blessings to you💗

Love and peace to you and your family.❤️ Rest in Peace, Mary Kennedy.
Tears. Rest in Peace to all we've lost, famous or not.
My son lost a friend due to an injury from a non-lethal rubber bullet during the Portland Protests. The shot to his head caused his brain to swell. His organs started to die so his family removed him from life support.
@@kathleenkrug-byle1199 I'm so sorry for his loss and his family's. RIP. (unless you were telling me for another reason?)

Amen. I think about all the empty spots in beds, empty chairs, and the year without a Santa Claus. 2020 is gone and I’ve never been so relieved to see one year end. Bless them all.
We will remember this year, whether we like it or not, we will remember it.
THANK YOU..

Is it wrong for me to say that I look forward to this segment every year?!? It affords me the opportunity to pause, reevaluate, ask why, yield unto sorrow, at all the Greatness that has come before us and the Greatness yet to be achieved. There is Light at the end of this journey. We must continue to walk in the paths they have started. #GetIntoGoodTrouble
@Logic Police I'm not sure how to respond to that. Better still if such Vulgarity warrants a response. Hopefully in 2021 the world will become Kinder, more Gentle, more Respectful, and far more Gracious. Beginning with someone like YOU!!! "Vulgarity is no substitute for whit."

One of many things my rider's have told me. I picked up a nurse who told me she does free covi checks and for some reason she told me they had to close early. She told me that people download an app. The person sets up and appointment online and the app later gives them their results because they had to shutdown early they couldn't finish all their appointments but when they reopened again there were people who came to show her that the app stated they were positive in their test and they hadn't even been tested due to the early shutdown😳 please understand that they are lying to us about the number of deaths and people are dying because they are not treating these people with proper meds. Dr. Richard Bartlett MD from Texas and the Americanfrontline Doctors states that they have not lost anyone to co,be 19.

Chadwick Boseman's death will always make me so, so sad. And Gianna Bryant and the other girls on that helicopter. Tragic beyond words.

@Lawrence Jones Which is why i intentionally didn't mention him.

I lost my 38 year-old son in Sep 2020 (due to someone else's negligence that caused him irreversible health issues). I don't think I am ever going to be okay. I figured out why it is so much harder for a mother to lose a child: mom's heartbeat was the first the baby ever heard and two souls shared one body for a time. There is just nothing else that beats that.
I am so very sorry for your loss. ☹
So sorry. Parents should never have to see their children go before them. And if it is someone else's fault, even worse. Good memories will eventually take over the sad once. Wished I could help

2020 really, really was a devastating year. Thanks CBS for an excellent story.
I agree, loss of a lot of great people; terrible 2020.
This IS CBS at it's best. Old school feature writing, a lost Art.
I have to agree that 2020 was especially dark when we think of the people we lost to Co-Vid featured in this hail and farewell the Joanna Cole portion especially makes me weep inside not for her but for my own 1990's childhood because I liked The Magic School Bus on PBS back then .
Hate to be that guy but the memorial is skewed based on whom “they” consider to be the most memorable. Did we learn nothing from this year? Every year we see these beautiful, haunting, lovely memorials yet you’d think only two Black-people died in a year and this year was much worse since nearly 66% of covid deaths were suffered by people of color but overwhelmingly shown are white deaths as the face of covid. It’s almost as if Black-people have to be outshone even in death. I hope we can one day get to the point where we don’t value the lives of one race over the other and certainly not in such a blatant way. Each life deserves special attention on its own - in life and in death.
Here’s to 2021

I love the bookends, starting with "Lean on Me", preparing us of things to come , to "Sun Shiny Days", to give us hope after a tragically brutal year like no other... and a lovely salute to giants who have left us with reflection of the past, appreciation of the present, and inspiration for our future...
I can see clearly now the rain is gone.
A fervent prayer for 2021 🙏
You could write for this show.
I had the same thought about the terrific opening & closing songs (and know both well), but appreciate you further framing these uplifting hits as bookends.

This year 2020 has been a monster. So many good people have left this earth in one way or another. Here’s hoping that 2021 will in fact be bright and sunny 🌞
2020 makes the words "annus horriblis" seem like a slight drizzle in a sunny day... but, though I hated these words, death is just a part of life... you just never know who death is gonna hit next and by how... you'll just have to accept it...

As a kid, I remember the songs Lean On Me and I Can See Clearly Now were both big hits on the radio in 1972. How ironic that we lost both artists for those songs in 2020.

Thank you CBS Sunday Morning for including Joe Ruby and Ken Spears to the list of people that we lost in 2020. The work that Joe Ruby and Ken Spears left us will never be equaled in our body and heart.

I still can’t believe Kobe Bryant is not with us anymore. He still had so much to give. It was not his time.
Ann Reinking has passed. I was her ski instructor many years ago at Taos Ski Valley. She was kind and gracious and skied very, very well, perhaps in part because she was such a wonderful dancer. A beautiful lady inside and out. She will be well remembered by all that knew her or saw her perform.
My Aunt Viola Smith passed away about a month before her 108th Birthday. She was recognized as the first Professional Female Drummer in addition to being called the female "Gene Krupa", both are listed in Wikipedia. She is around 12:45 into the tribute. If you Google "Viola Smith" you will see many of the obituaries that News Papers around the world printed. She can be found on TH-cam if you type in "Viola Smith Drummer".
Wow! How superb was her gift and her power. Amazing the people we never hear about. Thanks for listing her here!
We have also lost Kevin Dobson, as well, who was CBS's favorite. Star of "Kojak" and "Knots Landing.". May he #RIP.
Also Abby Dalton from Falcon Crest at 88.

All of these celebrity deaths have been so detrimental in our lives and we've changed on how we viewed this whole year, and still continues for years to come. It really hurt a lot for Kobe, Kelly, Kirk, Olivia, Chadwick, RBG, Regis, Rep. Lewis, Sean, Alex, and many others, to slip away from us.

In every soul we lost in 2020 we found ourselves a little more insight into life because of what they stood for. Thank-you!
Rush fans were devastated over the death of Neil Peart, but we were also torn to pieces over the death of Jerry Stiller...he was a fixture on the intermission films they would show at their concerts. What a rotten year...
We must never forget them and their contributions.
I will miss Eddie Van Halen the most. I would mentioned him differently in this memorial, but I’m glad he was mentioned.
His passing broke my heart. Watching him walk those desks, playing like a master, and smiling that smile in "Hot for Teacher" was everything about being young and alive in the 80's. I hope he, Prince, and Michael are tearing it up somewhere.

As saddened as we all are are of the passing of such well known people, let us not forget those who aren’t, the neighbor across the street that helped run the local food pantry for 30 years, the teacher who taught thousands of children over their 40 year career, the men and women of our military and public service. There are so many non famous people who have contributed so much which go unnoticed, for all of you, Thank You, may you RIP!
I had the greatest pleasure of being acquainted with Rafer Johnson 30 some-odd years ago, when I volunteered with California Special Olympics for six years. Not only was he a gold-medal Olympian and president of the organization, he was a gentleman and an honorable man. His passing made me realize how fast time has gone by.
This year has been really tough may the spirits of those gone on watch over us and be at rest. ❤️
Amen 🙏❤
Remembering: Watching Alex Trebek’s interview at the top of the year on his cancer progress and his wigs 🤓 while thinking 2020 please don’t take this man🥺. I’ve loved him since I was 4.
Two thousand (expletive deleted) twenty.
We were blessed as a people to have had so many great people in our lives. May we find peace in their words and music.
I loved seeing the thread of connection running through this list...truly heartwarming and heartbreaking.
I loved that! It was really well done.
They will always be missed and loved.
This makes me cry every year. I wish someone would compilea tribute to all those 300,000+ lost to Covid. It would be daunting but uplifting to remember (and know) them.
So 😥 sad to 👀 see them go! RIP (Rest in peace) and thank you for all you giving us the 🎁 gifts you given to everyone around the world🌎🌍🌏.
I hope there's an Emmy for the writers and producers of this clip...
Too good!
2020 was such a tragic year, but let's give thanks for those who are still present. Let's give thanks for our friends, for our dear families. Let's realize that we're in this TOGETHER. WE're still making our mark, and, hopefully, it's a good mark, a mark of deep respect.
So beautifully done CBS Sunday Morning, my favourite show on television next to 60 minutes. I’ve sent this to everyone I love. Whomever at CBS produced, and edited this piece should be lauded, and given an award. The commentator is the best that there is. Jane Pauley sitting with Alex Trebek made my eyes water, because they’re both so humble. Greatness comes in all shapes and sizes. God made each of us remarkably, and gave us the ability to make a difference. I’m from Los Angeles. The television, music, and film 🎥 passings make me cry always, not just from in front of the camera, but more the people behind the scenes. They’re the true legends. But the one that stood out most to me, and redefined my world, was Kobe. I’m not even a huge basketball fan, but Kobe transcended basketball, and sports. He touched everyone with a beating heart. Like Princess Diana before him, the 🌎 worlds axis shifted a bit, as an angel of Mega magnitude progressed to heaven. For everyone that passed to be with our Lord, lucky them. Heaven is in for a treat. And thank you for everything you gave to us. See you in the better life.
Beautiful piece. Thank you, CBS Sunday Morning. I am also thankful that I can still watch you on TH-cam after the cable service in the country where I'm living decided not to stream U.S. channels any more.
A beautiful homage to people that made a difference positively in this world. Thank you.
I include my friend of over 45 years who passed 2 days before Thanksgiving from cancer. My friend, Brenda, the kindest person I've ever known. Couldn't go to the funeral because of COVID. It was immediate family only. I will miss her for the rest of my life but know I will see her some day in the future when it is my turn to leave.
What a wonderful program, I cried all thru it. Thank you for your work, I have watched SM since the program's beginning~ Kuralt inspired a great deal of my 68 years on this planet, his reports from the road(s) were inspirational. I hope we never have another year of tragedy such as we have and still are experiencing.
Good Bye 2020! A true life experience. So long.
