Lucas has said many times that with the original trilogy (and in particular, "A New Hope"), he was forced by his low budget and the technological limits of the time to vastly reduce the ideas he wanted to convey on-screen. So it wasn't a matter of second-guessing himself, just updating his own movies to better fit the vision he had in his own mind.
Or how about the scene where the T1000 jumps on the back of the car when they're escaping the mental hospital, and it just looks like a dummy getting dragged on the floor, I wish they could have fixed that.
I like sonic Arnie it looked kinda cool like dude is deffo a robot. Always noticed the stunt guy jumping into the canal though on the bike and not Arnie tho
@guileniam Little niggles aside, this is still the best example of a near perfect action movie, and probably the best "sequel" movie released. The pacing of the whole thing is spot on, even the slower segments. BUT....😂 once I properly noticed this I now cannot un-notice it lol. The ending with Arnie damaged etc that fixed , non moving t800 eye against his real moving eye seems tad cheap an cheesy nowadays, if they only updated 1 thing on the whole thing I'd have been happy with that. Bit of cgi to make it match the real eye etc
No, it's 'cos they suck. Third one was mediocre but with a good ending, Salvation was dumb with more holes than swiss cheese and Genisys was a disjointed mess where they basically threw everything at it hoping something would stick. None of it did.
Never noticed the windshield but since I was a kid what bothered me was the stuntman landing the jump with the bike was clearly not Arnold. I found that more jarring, but glad its fixed now.
He is literally responsible for every single favorite movie I have....everyone. I've literally watched T2 and Aliens Thousands of times. Absolute master class director.
I never noticed the windscreen falling out. What I did notice however is that when the truck crashes down, the front axel seems to snap, in the final parts of the fall sequence, the wheels are pointing in two completely separate directions.
This is btw not the only thing they changed. A couple of body double shots have been changed as well, where you obviously saw the stunt man instead of Arnold. Arnold's face has been superimposed over the other. And they removed Robert Patricks scrotum at the beginning of the film. And there is also some other minor changes. But the windshield of the truck is not the only thing they changed.
Did they change a right wheel of the truck, which clearly seen as broken after falling of the bridge? Or face of mannequin when that truck is blowing up - in original version, it had some stupid cap wearing on his head, that really broke immersion.
James Cameron is one of the greatest director. As I have seen interviews and news how it is very challenging and tough he is to work for, but the ending results leaves you feeling he is one genius director. Especially seeing the docu on 'Aliens'
I semi Agree with your point about Cameron's comment/opinion, but some of the changes Lucas did make for his latest re-release of the original Star Wars Trilogy were solid, but not all of them of course.
A directors cut is a common thing and it is not a problem, but that's not what Lucas did. Lucas LIED to his fans, and ERASED the originals. That is a destruction of art and it is completely different from tweaking around a later release or "director's cut."
I watched T2 back in the days for more than 100 times. Ain't kidding. T2 is one of my favorite movie of all time and always will be. Starting from the 3rd watch and on at the truck chase scene I was bugged as Cameron did BUT not to the wind shield. I also noticed that but the real problem for me was the right front tire of the truck that got broken of. It is not possible for the truck to continue functioning with that damage. Wind shield is much a minor issue. Whether it is the wind shield or the broken tire the movie was and still so great in many ways that these minor "faults" have no importance at all but still I hope Cameron fixed the tire as well. :D
Saw it last night. Amazing how a 25 year old movie still holds up on the big screen. Maybe except for the scenes in the future, the hairstyles and some goofy looking prosthetics the movie hasn't aged a bit. This truly is a genre defining milestone.
T1000 clearly made a new windshield. In my opinion its much more obviously that when the motorcycle drops into the canal its not Arnold, but a stuntman on it. :P
I don't understand James Cameron's complete and utter love of 3-D. Have you ever taken your 3-D glasses off during the movie and noticed how much brighter the screen is and that a lot of the scenes aren't even in 3-D and don't warrant wearing the glasses? For a director who wants to give us the full visual experience, you would think he would be against something that actually hinders what you see. Until they eliminate the need for the glasses and make the screen itself a 3-D monitor, I'm not watching any more 3-D movies.
Theaters properly calibrated for 3D are supposed to brighten the projector to compensate for the loss of light by the polarized glasses. Sadly not all of them do resulting in a subpar experience. 3D can be excellent, especially in a premium theater like Dolby Cinema where the screen is appropriately bright, sharp and contrasty.
Yep, this is how you respectfully make changes to an old film. He already did it on the Aliens blu-ray getting rid of mistakes and you can't evem tell. Wish someone told George Lucas
it didn't bug him that there is a dude who had no business being there standing outside the glass doors of the cyberdyne building when the swat fires away at the t800?
I can understand that he fixed the windsheilds, but other than that i think he has the right attitude. You shouldnt change or add to a work of art like a classic movie or a classic music album for that matter.
I watch this movie in Japan. I really didn't care about the 3D at all. I was just happy that I can finally see Terminator 2 on the big screen! What he should have done, was actually used the full Skynet version. This version is the original theater cut with none of the extra scenes added into it. Since depth perception is little bit difficult for me, I couldn't see the 3D too much unless the guns were like really close to the camera.
The windshield I noticed, but the axle I noticed even more. Especially when the wheels were pointed in two different directions, then straighten out in the next scene.
Such a cool change! I was watching the 3D version in the theater, and I was really getting into it, with the audience, a lot more than I thought I could and that scene was coming up and I was remembering there was a blatant continuity error but the scene passed by and I didn't even notice the continuity error and I thought it was just 'cause I was so in the film. So cool; glad he did that.
Now I've seen the release and I thought that it was wonderful. But the sad part( not including the Terminator ending) was the fact that I was the only one in theater to watch it. I even looked up and down the rows. I was completely alone. But I thought it was good so Hats Off to James Cameron!
+Mark H He said that if Terminator 2 3D does well, he'd like to re-release Aliens in 3D. Both of these were filmed on film and 4K only applies to digital quality, so you can't really call either a 4K release. Unless we're talking about Blu-Rays, of course.
Half-Life Scientist hmmmmm yeah I was T2 is being released on 4k bluray in October 3 already preordered my copy so let's hope ALIENS 👽 gets the same rerelease the original bluray is awesome so let's hope the 4k is even better
I clicked on this video worried. It pleases me to see he has artistic integrity and knows how to use these advancements in technology to polish the film, not re-write the film. I never got to see T2 in the cinema, but it's my all time favourite film and I am so excited to finally get to see it on the big screen.
cant believe i missed that re release. i was 2 years old when in cinema so couldnt see it then. i first watched it on tv when i was like 6 years old and got hooked ever since.
I noticed every time, but it didn't bother me one bit. Stop tinkering, all you George Lucases, Ridley Scotts, Steven Spielbergs and now James Camerons. All your movies became huge successes because they were perfect just they way they were. No changes or 3D required. "Waste" that time and energy on releasing The Abyss and True Lies on Blu-ray, thank you very much.
I know most people probably don't notice, but the whole reason the truck veers right and starts to slow down after impact is because the front axle and control arm are utterly wrecked and falling off the truck's frame rails. In reality, John would have looked behind his shoulder and just laughed as the T-1000 sat there in a broken truck facing the canal wall. But hey, at least the broken windows got fixed! 😁
More than the windshield I've always noticed how the front suspension of the truck completely busts in the drop and leaves the other front wheel pointing steeply right and the other one left. But the magic of editing fixes the suspension so the truck keeps going. I think they should have made the wheels aligned again for this release. Also replacing the obvious stunt actor's face in the cockpit when T-800 lifts John onto his bike would have been good.
... And then he added Arnold's face over the stuntman doing the bike jump into the canal for the 4k version. What next? Remaking the CGI elements completely? Slippery slope
Hopefully he changed the steering as well. you can clearly see that the front axel snapped and the truck pull screen left after it lands, the wheel on that side is folded around almost 90 degrees, then it drives fine the rest of the scene. I saw it in the cinema in 1992 and noticed both straight away. There is also a shot shortly before where you can see the camera mounted to the side of the truck. it is shortly after Arnold gets in and hits the first car.
I think everyone noticed it when it was originally released. well, at least i did when i saw it multiple times on VHS. theres also other errors in the film that could be seen on the VHS version because of the aspect ratio change. the full screen version is different from the widescreen version as it shows more on the top and bottom instead of left and right. example: when the T800 smashes the payphone for a quarter, in the VHS version you can see the cut out in plastic of the phone, but in the widescreen that part is cut off.
I thought he was going to talk about the noticable stunt double as Arnold in that scene. I believe they photoshopped it this time around. Noticed it in the trailer
Han shot first .. man . That wind shield falling out was pivotal to the later character development .. time to star an internet campaign to get it back in.
Would have thought the truck trailer tyres at the start would get a mention. When Arnold first arrives, his bubble slices through the truck trailer, cutting through the tyres which somehow manage to stay inflated with part missing.
I truely hope he's done something about that, especially in the truck chase scene, just before Arnold rescues John and lifts him off his bike and onto his, it's blatantly obvious that's it's a stuntman, as he look so much more slimmer.
i think the stunt man looks a bit like john claude van damme but when it was on VHS it wasn't that obvious and if you tried to pause it it was a blur,it's only because dvds and blue rays are so clear now you can see that stuff and it's only big time fans of the movies who notice this stuff most people wouldn't notice but i think it has been sorted out for the new release.
I'd just seen this at my theater last night. Gotta admit, the 3D conversion wasn't that bad, that first pan-up shot of the T-1000 in the 2029 opening was excellent.
Never noticed but I do notice 2 pieces of the t1000 broke off when he fell off the back of the car and rolled with that hook arm and ownly one went back in him . Check that out a very small 2nd piece goes ignored.
I wonder if he has fixed the magazines moving around the table in Dysons House, that's a continuity error I always notice after a friend pointed it out many years ago.
What actually bugged fans wasnt the windshield it was that Arnie drives towards a sharp triangular edge then when his bikes rides off it's a squar ledge. 😅
I totally get what James Cameron feels, looking back at your previous works and find these tiny little details that no one but you feel uncomfortable with.
Saw it last night and the thing that pissed me off the most, he missed the chance to give us the extended edition on the big screen, the scene where they take the chip out and she threatens to destroy it, checking Johns bedroom for clues, the dog collar etc
Funny thing is that what bugged me about that scene was that the front right wheel gets wrecked in the fall and then is fine one cut later. With my concentration on that, I never once noticed the windshields fall out.
I've seen T2 and that truck chase scene in particular literally dozens of times and I never once noticed the truck's wind shields falling off.
Elite 1984 once he pointed it out I watched that scene and I can't unseen it. So I'm glad he fixed it lol
Watch it again and pay close attention to the front wheels on impact
BUT what IS noticeable is Arnold's stunt double on the motorcycle during that chase scene...now THAT bugs me. I never noticed the windshield. LOL
David Johnston Hopefully they fix that too.
+David Johnston True, Arnold's stunt double on the bike is way more noticeable than the wind shields coming off.
still the very best action movie ever made
BULLSHIT DAT GOES TO TRUE LIES.
weston407 agreed
aliens
RIP Falling windscreen. 1991-2017
In America, it's windshield! Outside of 'merica, there's nothing
A timeless classic that will always stand through the test of time. Same with the original first film from 1984.
"I don't wanna second guess myself after all those years" - it's the kind of words somebody should have said to Lucas many years ago
Lucas has said many times that with the original trilogy (and in particular, "A New Hope"), he was forced by his low budget and the technological limits of the time to vastly reduce the ideas he wanted to convey on-screen. I never noticed the windshields. Thanks Jim.
I never even noticed the windshields but Arnie rolling off the liquid nitrogen truck like sonic the hedgehog could have done with an edit
Or how about the scene where the T1000 jumps on the back of the car when they're escaping the mental hospital, and it just looks like a dummy getting dragged on the floor, I wish they could have fixed that.
or how about the time my mom caught me jerking off in the bathtub.. i wish they could have fixed that😔😔😔
I like sonic Arnie it looked kinda cool like dude is deffo a robot.

T1 and T2 generation only knows this two films, everything else that is called Terminator is a fake
Everything after T2 is nothing more than uninspired fan fiction and not canon. Never was, never will be.
Right on the fucking Money!!! i could not of said it better myself.
Let me guess: is it because other studios made T3-5?
No, it's 'cos they suck. Third one was mediocre but with a good ending, Salvation was dumb with more holes than swiss cheese and Genisys was a disjointed mess where they basically threw everything at it hoping something would stick. None of it did.
I liked the Sarah Connor Chronicles though
I saw T2 during its original cinema run. I feel old now.
Same
Old but not obsolete
Me, too! 😃
Yes, me too..I was 10 and very scared after the movie..

Indeed. Well the T-1000 is not going to need those dangling berries anyways.
Did they change a right wheel of the truck, which clearly seen as broken after falling of the bridge? Or face of mannequin when that truck is blowing up - in original version, it had some stupid cap wearing on his head, that really broke immersion.
FabledSomething No scrot in 3-d!? What's the point of going to see it then?
They removed Robert Patrick's balls?! How evil!
How do you know this?
Yeah, the problem was the windshield not the camera crew reflected on the truck's painting 2:06 ¬¬
James Cameron is one of the greatest director. As I have seen interviews and news how it is very challenging and tough he is to work for, but the ending results leaves you feeling he is one genius director. Especially seeing the docu on 'Aliens'
George Lucas could have learned a thing or two from Cameron. "Why would I want to second guess myself from what I was thinking back then?"
I semi Agree with your point about Cameron's comment/opinion, but some of the changes Lucas did make for his latest re-release of the original Star Wars Trilogy were solid, but not all of them of course.

fuck off!
He also changed the arrival of the T-1000. When he gets down you could see his junk but they added some CGI cinder block to cover it up.
It's a pity they didn't do a 3D release of the extended director's cut of T2.
Terminator 2 3D will be one the greatest things ever.
I watched T2 back in the days for more than 100 times. Ain't kidding. T2 is one of my favorite movie of all time and always will be.

imk wastching speed 1994 like everyday from 1994 vhs realease :D
The whole front axis of the truck would have been busted after that fall. No way it would be drivable afterwards.
Saw it last night. Amazing how a 25 year old movie still holds up on the big screen. Maybe except for the scenes in the future, the hairstyles and some goofy looking prosthetics the movie hasn't aged a bit. This truly is a genre defining milestone.
The Movies stands the test of time.
James Cameron created a masterpiece.
T1000 clearly made a new windshield.

I think about Terminator 2 honestly once a week, and probably watch it a couple of times a year
I can understand that he fixed the windsheilds, but other than that i think he has the right attitude. You shouldnt change or add to a work of art like a classic movie or a classic music album for that matter.
be glad he didn;t do what lucas did
well he is the creator of it..but even the creator shouldn't change a classic a bit!
The true master of film making is coming back.
When it first came out in 3D that was the first time I’ve seen it and now it’s my favourite movie of all time
As soon as the truck hits, I always had my attention on Furlong, never noticing the windshields falling out lol.
The only reason I'd like to see this is for the high resolution image on a big screen and the sound. The 3D isn't what sold me.
The last good Terminator movie.
Not for long, in 2019 we see the Tim miller James Cameron Terminator film
Simply 'good'? Don't you mean mindblowingly awesome?
I like T3
Good ? T2 is a masterpiece. Problem is nowdays people lowered their standards. Most of movie are just crappy with weak plot but filled of CGI.
This comment still stands today.
I saw this in the theaters when I was like 8 years old and it blew my fucking mind.
Same for me, I was 11 :)
Beth S. not me too young
Lord of Winterhell me too
I watch this movie in Japan. I really didn't care about the 3D at all. I was just happy that I can finally see Terminator 2 on the big screen! James Cameron does what James Cameron does because James Cameron is... James Cameron.
Still waiting for a new blu-ray release of The Terminator without the new sound effects and the teal color timing.
Why only AMC theaters? It feels like I was given the finger cause the only theater nearby is Regal. 😒
Sometimes it's best to leave things alone
I must have seen the movie a hundred times and I never noticed that continuity error before.
Now I've seen the release and I thought that it was wonderful. But the sad part( not including the Terminator ending) was the fact that I was the only one in theater to watch it. I even looked up and down the rows. I was completely alone. But I thought it was good so Hats Off to James Cameron!
I hope they re-release Termintor 3 Rise Of The Machines in 2021.
Please James Cameron please please rerelease Aliens 👽 in 4k please please please please please
+Mark H He said that if Terminator 2 3D does well, he'd like to re-release Aliens in 3D.
Both of these were filmed on film and 4K only applies to digital quality, so you can't really call either a 4K release.
Unless we're talking about Blu-Rays, of course.
Half-Life Scientist hmmmmm yeah I was T2 is being released on 4k bluray in October 3 already preordered my copy so let's hope ALIENS 👽 gets the same rerelease the original bluray is awesome so let's hope the 4k is even better
bigevilworldwide1 thay are releasing T2 on 4k in October so hopefully Aliens 👽 follows suit
Any film that wasn't shot in 4k will never be true 4k
Sebastian Knott A film shot in 35mm has resolution beyond 4k
I clicked on this video worried. It pleases me to see he has artistic integrity and knows how to use these advancements in technology to polish the film, not re-write the film. I never got to see T2 in the cinema, but it's my all time favourite film and I am so excited to finally get to see it on the big screen.
One thing that bugged me is when t800 and t1000 are fighting holding the shotgun doesn't bend and it should've considering how strong they are.
cant believe i missed that re release. i was 2 years old when in cinema so couldnt see it then. i first watched it on tv when i was like 6 years old and got hooked ever since.
Perfectionist... That's why he is no: 1
Did everyone's glass just shatter in their minds? I've seen this movie a gajillion times and I've NEVER noticed it! [Mind... Blown...]
I saw the movie in IMAX this summer and it was fucking unreal!
where did u see it? i see we have the same tastes haha.. we often find each other in the comment section
I've noticed Arnold always holding his arm behind him in the factory scene lol. So much lighting in that one scene, his black arm is noticeable.
One thing I always notice is right after Arnie breaks his arm off at the end then goes to stand up, you can clearly see his arm held behind him.
do Abyss next Jim!
I want to see Titanic next!
@@rmn070 he should do true lies or piranha next
Before you release Avater 2,3,4, etc etc, Cameron, how about FINALLY releasing The Abyss on Bluray!! Why on earth this hasn't been done is crazy!
Avatar is very much like The Abyss, especially now with the sequels.
the extended Special Edition
Awesome movie, so underrated.
being-being it does look good in HD on netflix bht it's not thr SE and i really want extras and a commentary
Screw the Abyss! I want True Lies on Blu-ray!!
i watched this movie like 1878 times since 1993 and never noticed it!
Thank you for fixing this! Since I realized this failure it bugged me too in this masterpiece.
I thought he was going to talk about the noticable stunt double as Arnold in that scene. I believe they photoshopped it this time around. Noticed it in the trailer
Han shot first .. man . That wind shield falling out was pivotal to the later character development .. time to star an internet campaign to get it back in.
Where do I get my windshield fell first t-shirt?
+DougalDylan I don't know where people get the "Han shot first" thing. Han was the only one to shoot. Greedo didn't shoot at all.
Greg R totally agree Han was they only one to get a shot of and made him a real badass, the "special"edition make his character a bit of a pansy.
Even if for two week's in the States the first run of star wars (the true,"A New Hope") Had Greedo shoot first.
Would have thought the truck trailer tyres at the start would get a mention. When Arnold first arrives, his bubble slices through the truck trailer, cutting through the tyres which somehow manage to stay inflated with part missing.
I'm also gonna DNR and change the color grading and make it gloomy and waxy
Cant wait to look out for changes done to Arnold's stunt men.
I noticed a few scenes were cut out of the 3D version... but not huge important ones
Hey, James, how about a REAL T3? Come on, just finish the trilogy
😏
it’s coming in November, but I don’t know if it’s going to be good or not 😕
Be careful what you wish for
I'd just seen this at my theater last night. Gotta admit, the 3D conversion wasn't that bad, that first pan-up shot of the T-1000 in the 2029 opening was excellent.
I'm so sad that this isn't coming anywhere close to me. Still glad I got to see it in the theaters back in 1991
Never noticed but I do notice 2 pieces of the t1000 broke off when he fell off the back of the car and rolled with that hook arm and ownly one went back in him . Check that out a very small 2nd piece goes ignored.
"Plus its in 3D" repeating the last few words..
and I can say to see it in 3d at the cinema was amazing I will never forget it
I hope they re-release Terminator 3 Rise Of The Machines in 3D in 2021 this is my prediction. That I'm predicting.
It's true. I never noticed it and I've watched the film at least half a dozen times.
A true visionary
I wonder if he has fixed the magazines moving around the table in Dysons House, that's a continuity error I always notice after a friend pointed it out many years ago.
Always noticed the dummy in the truck and the stunt guys face when jumping down with the motorcycle chasing the truck
Windscreen falling out? What about the front steering column, the two wheels are going in opposite direction after the jump.
I noticed it! Thank you, James Cameron, for making the change in the re-release :)
Sorry, James, 70mm is still better than any digital projection.
I thought that Robert Patrick's tip was removed from his intro shot in this version as well lol
Gotta be honest I never noticed the wind shields falling out till he just mentioned it
The passenger side steer flipping out on impact, then perfectly aghlined in the next shot always bugged me.
I can’t believe he didn’t do the extended version, it’s only the theatrical, still cool but all the extra scenes make the movie way better.
This is super cool! I'm psyched for this!
All this time growing up watching arnie and terminator 2, I never noticed the windows falling out....
Saw it last night and the thing that pissed me off the most, he missed the chance to give us the extended edition on the big screen, the scene where they take the chip out and she threatens to destroy it, checking Johns bedroom for clues, the dog collar etc
I have seen that scene probably +50 times and I never noticed that.
Funny thing is that what bugged me about that scene was that the front right wheel gets wrecked in the fall and then is fine one cut later. With my concentration on that, I never once noticed the windshields fall out.
Cue 40 minute RedLetterMedia video about how the windshields falling out were integral to T-2.
Is this re-realeasing in the UK?
Much luv for Jimmy James for not being tempted to make George Lucas style changes to a classic
Wish this was available were i live. Seems amazing on a Cinema screen😎
I did notice this time they dont fall, and when i went to see it last week i was actually looking forward for that scene, lol.
He did fixed it
I drove 2 hours to see this. WELL WORTH IT
