I'm a pretty highly experienced lifter, and the tip about the skull crushers (tough name for a solid exercise starting at 3:51) being done with dumbbells instead of a straight barbell is excellent. Some people like using curl bars to allow for more natural wrist movement, but I'm a dumbbell guy all the way with that exercise. Really gets solid results with the triceps too

Bob and Brad, could you do a video of exercises to do laying down in bed and/or sitting in a chair? I'm thinking for those who have some serious knee, ankle and hip issues.

I had never taken an exercise class before, and signed up for one at my place of employment. I would consider myself exercise naive. The first exercise you show in this video is what gave me an annular tear to my disc on the second day of doing it, and 8 weeks of very significant pain. At physical therapy they showed me a diagram of what kind of stress is placed on the disc when you bend forward at the hips. You are so very right that this is something not to do! Wish I had known before I did it. Thanks for your informative videos.

There's a slight risk of hurting your elbows as well when it comes to the skull-crushers(French press). Cable pushdown preferably with a rope, close grip bench press is what I stick to. Works pretty well and is safe. Thanks for the video, informative as always.

As the saying goes "prevention is better then cure" and I like to add with it even if you have the best way to cure it. I recently started weight training and do not have access to great gym trainers let alone a gym trainer with the knowledge of a physiotherapist like you do. I am in the weight training for fitness purposes and hence its not affordable let alone worth to injure myself in the process.
Hence Kindly can you make a comprehensive series covering worst exercises in the gym specially the ones who promote long term problem with various body parts for all the muscles that are generally covered during most of the gym sessions. Your work is extremely important for people who do not have access to good facilities.
Thanking you and I wish you healthy life ahead.

Hello guys. I've been lifting weights for over 20+ years, average of 5 days a week. I have tricep issues now and again. I am a stickler for form, as I did take martial arts in the past. So watching you I'm thinking about it. These are tips for fixing your hated exercises: 1) Tri-kickbacks: Pull your shoulders together, do each arm supporting yourself with the other. Sit back and do the hip hinge. 2) I agree. But slight arch to back. 3) For skull crushes, use a bend bar. As far as the best list: 1) I do not like this exercise as I feel it in the joint. I will admit I never braced my arm and that may help. 2) I "REALLY" like the pull down with the elbows braced against the wall, I will try that. They have an arm blaster at the gym and I can use that along with cables or bands. TY. 3) I don't like that exercise, look at the path of the elbows. He presses forward and they pop up and down. I always think if you can not do it with heavy weight, you probably shouldn't be doing it with light weight. But as we know form must always be keep. Thank you for the wall press down and I'll try using more bands.

Great video Bob and Brad. I have one question - isn't the range of motion you have shown in the video too much? When the arm flexes and triceps get stretched, shouldn't one stop at 90 degrees or may be a bit deeper than that? I thought deeper than that long puts a lot of strain on the joint and my one isn't even getting any significant extra benefits for muscles.

Great fun! I definitely prefer the mic setup in these older videos rather than the new ones where you're both wearing the 'Madonna headsets'. Those headsets don't sound natural, and have an effect of separating you from the audience. These feel like we're there with you. Natural room sound. Much better.
Consider going back to this type of mic setup.

While I do agree with you guys that overhead triceps extensions will put stress on your shoulder and even elbow, I do want to add that if you want to empathize the long head of the triceps you do need to do some overhead work. I found that overhead extensions with resistance bands (or cables at the gym) tend to be easier on the joints (although not eliminate the stress completely).

If you do kickbacks while on an incline bench, you are able to get the most brutal squeeze of the tricep. Remember people, the more you can get your arm behind your back, the harder you can squeeze. So when doing rope pushdowns, make sure you are using a rope long enough that when you get to the bottom, you can reach behind you. You can squeeze the muscle 10x harder that way.
