  • thermostats have different opening temperatures from 80C to 87C
I couldn't save him there. sometimes it is good to use sealing silicone
good is also to put down the alternator - for better access to work

Thanks man this tutorial helped a lot, on my gran dad's 1.9 Mk5 BKC engine, I additionaly also removed the Vacuum reservoir and the MAP sensor so that I can have better acces to the bolts of the Coolant flange.

I did today the job, aswell without removing the generator. Be careful if you loose one of coolant flange bolts. They are M7.
    Prepare patience, nothing else.

Thank you for this video man. It helped me a lot with the job. Access is really shit. I didn't have to twist that thermostat like you to put in place. Maybe different thermostat

Good vid, im trying to find out if this needing changed could be the reason I'm loosing coolant, there is no white smoke emitted from exhaust. I just have to keep topping the coolant up if been driving long journeys.

Note (should be right up top or in video from the beginning): this is NOT the common 2.0T, but some other strange engine (could be diesel maybe).

Hi, is there possible to mount inversely a thermostat on a VW Touran T1, 1.9TDI from 2008? I'm asking because:
    - I noticed that the water level in the expansion vessel is always below the maximum level, although it is filled up permanently and I have no leaks, but after I stop the engine in the afternoon foor example, and in the morning I open the lid of the vessel, immediately fills the vessel a lot above the maximum level, the pressure in the installation decreases
    - in winter I didn't have heat in the car, only if I went with it constantly speed (I mention the heating radiator was changed), after laps and overtaking, it immediately put cold air,
    - the thermostat was changed last summer because the water did not rise above 70 degrees, only very rarely up to 90 but also dropped back, the heating radiator heats up a lot, I feel on my feet that the plastic is very hot, so far I have not felt so
