I remember my older sister and me watching this pageant over the years as young girls, knowing we'd never have a chance, but enjoying it just the same. Compared to the contestants, we were utterly without talent with average looks, but content with our home life, which mattered the most to us.

@@youngrichskinnyladymaxxine294 They can't even use the proper spellings of words, yet, I'm not surprised.

Pageants HayDay, Thanks to the generosity of you and " Universal Crowns", we have all of the Miss America Pageants from the Television Era, except for 1956 and 1957. With them, all Pageants would finally be available to see. Do you know if they can be made available, or, if not, why they can't? Thank you for what you've given to the many who have enjoyed them.

its nice to see our history on display, seeing things I though for display could never exist from so early in tv, and the elegance and a slighly fancier slower paced, more civil age of time, that ballet sure was etherial from miss conneticut even if her form is not as good as dancers of today she has the emotion that so many lack and like she is floating on air. during the contest for OUR Miss America, or rather a model young lady that can be an inspiration for others especially the young and has poise and can use the attention for her platform to do a great amount of good, not the farce it has become today where you cant even see it on tv for the 100th one the 100th was streamed only its not right, no it might not have the ratings it once did but its still something of great notoriety.
and what ever happened to the crystal scepter they use to let her walk with, it was there one year and then was not used the next

Just to think, 10 years after this beauty contest, America went to the Moon *SIX TIMES* with their advanced technology 🤔

........And 50 years later, Barack Obama was elected President of the United States.

Anita Bryant, Miss Oklahoma was known in the late 60s for her anti-gay rights activism. What's the use of being beautiful on the outside when you're trash inside? Miss Iowa was such a lovely little thing, truly charismatic.

Why do they basically all have on the same gown?

      Because it works.
But beside that….Dior’s “New Look” (corseted torso, cinched waists, big skirts) found its greatest reception in the US of A. And to the surprise of many, its popularity persisted well into the 1960s.
