    Hey Dan, Love your videos! Not only is it wonderful to see you're passion for the unusual and rare species but the housing and care you give your animals is inspirational, above and beyond what I've seen in most of the hobby. Keep it up!

      +Jack Oliver In reality my life is filled with working 50+ hours a week doing a job that has nothing to do with animals. My free time, however, is filled with animals. Most of that is the unglamorous job of feeding and "turd herding".

    You have a nice place and above all you have nice species there, especially the not often bred big-eyed ptyas. I guess I haven't seen it in the terrarium yet, but it's true that I didn't crave them.

    The snake at the very beginning is so long!! Idk why, but when they go really far out, and are just kinda hanging in the air like that trips me out lol. I get a little nervous or anxious over it or something hah! Definitely turned it around when it was hanging on the side of your head tho. That was super cute lol. I was like ehhhh.....awwww!!

    Wonderful work! Congratulation on the fantastic job getting of such a spectacular and challenging species to thrive in captivity, be handled with confidence, and ultimately per some of vid entries reproduced in captivity. Ptyas carinata with little a doubt, the largest colubrid snake in the world to at least 4 meters total length. Just one small comment; properly, one drops the "P" when pronouncing Pytas = "T-yas"...same case with the Greek "Ptyalism" the gecko genus "Ptychozoon", or Ptychography (/tɪˈtʃoʊɡræfi/ ti-CHOH-graf-ee)...all Greek root PTY words = many examples. keep up the excellent work Dan!

    Nice to see your video again. Love your ptyas. I keep P.mucosus, and hope to breed them this year!. Mine are tame and eat anything i give them, even raw meat(chicken). BTW what are the size of your cages? Cheers from France.

    • @DMExotics
      @DMExotics  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Patrick Vincent If you feed them enough they can produce many clutches on an annual basis. I have 4' and 6' terrestrial cages and also some larger arboreal cages 3'x2'x4'. Good luck!

  • @wendigolycan

      The glass terrariums I had made to order to maximize the wall space in that room. The white melamine caging was somewhat standard but I went to shorter cages so I could stack more levels and also maximize space. Thanks for the sub.

    How do you keep up with the tank maintenance? I'm really interested in keeping maybe 2 or 3 of the larger species to help with the gene pools but I know they are sprayers not layers as far as waste goes. Do you have any videos i could reference?

    • @DMExotics
      @DMExotics  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      NaturesJewels They don’t spray, they just poop like a regular snake and the cypress mulch and prococo does a good job absorbing it until I can spot clean.

    • @mrcrawlingstv
      @mrcrawlingstv 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      So the cribos, fwc's and indigo's aren't as bad as some people claim? That would be a huge comfort to know. I'm sure the odor is still something to get used to, if that is possible. Lol

    • @DMExotics
      @DMExotics  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      NaturesJewels The Ptyas are not that messy. Drymarchon can be messy but again it depends on substrate. Newspaper is asking for heavy maintenance and no odor control. I never found any of them to be much trouble to maintain or smelly.

    What do you do for quarantining?
    I noticed you keep mentioning how you just got them in and are already sending them out.
    How does that work?

    • @DMExotics
      @DMExotics  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Lance Kirkman Which animals are you concerned about?

    • @LanceKirkman
      @LanceKirkman 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +DMexotics I'm sorry, it's not a concern as much as trying to ask a learning question.
      Any new animal I bring into my house I quarantine for 6 months.
      Taking that thought across to someone of your caliber and all the wild caughts you bring in, I thought I'd ask about your quarantining habits.
      I'm just trying to learn

    • @DMExotics
      @DMExotics  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Lance Kirkman You stated that "I keep mentioning how I just got them in and are already sending them out". I am not sure that I said that in this video and the only time I am sending out immediately would be when I am shipping pre-order boxes to wholesale distributors. I have a less glamorous quarantine area which is basically where all of my old racks and caging reside. I would say only about 3-5% of my import shipments actually even touch a cage here and I try to maintain my personal collection to a size that I can comfortably care for myself. I constantly get asked for more videos but the reason I don't make more is because my collection really doesn't change much and I think the same animals over and over again gets redundant.

    • @LanceKirkman
      @LanceKirkman 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Roger sorry for the misunderstanding

    • @LanceKirkman
      @LanceKirkman 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +DMexotics I did a poor job of wording what I heard you say.
      You kept mentioning you have shipments in and only a few left. I poorly summarized it as immediately sending out. I was just trying to learn and understand your process.
      How long do you hang on to them before they go to final homes?

      Yes, Keeled Rat snakes are definitely vertically keeled. It is more apparent in wild specimens that do not carry as much body weight as the captive animals that get regular and often feeding.
