    I went with a 34mm mikuni and throttle body. High compression piston, port n polish, just plus 1mm piston. It will eat a Polaris scrambler 400cc 2-stroke on take off and top end. I also changed front sprocket geared up. Back tired are 22 tall out back, and yes it tops out at over 70mph, my daughter absolutely loves riding. Also YZ 250cc reed cage, machine shop works magic. 😉

    would you recommend getting a airsal cylinder with a 3mm crank or a vitos 240 kit with a 3mm crank? i don’t really feel like spending the money to get cases machined for a 4mm crank and i am planning on getting whichever cylinder ported.

    • @chrissolem2615
      @chrissolem2615  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Until I build my next one, I can’t say with absolute for certainty. But my money is on the Nikasil Airsal cylinder with it being plated. I’d hate to stir wrong direct, but all these high rev MX 2 strokes went to plated for a reason. Wether you used spacer plate or machined head for 3mil be personal decision. I’d think head being machined be better. I guess I’ll see on next one.

      @@chrissolem2615 do you have to machine your head to fit a 3mm crank? i read on a forum that 3mm will fit right in but once you go to 4mm you have to machine your head for it to fit.

    • @chrissolem2615
      @chrissolem2615  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you don’t use the spacer plate, you’ll have to. The Vito’s kit comes with a spacer plate for the cylinder base to make up for the 3mil longer stroke (to skip machining). I used the spacer plate. I posted a video of picture highlights on TH-cam, I show the plate in video.

    • @chrissolem2615
      @chrissolem2615  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@barbiedollmaster6657, no, but towards the top of stroke (especially towards the back on counter balancer side), tolerance was really close. So I did round corners for piece of mind. I put cylinder on half case and rotated by hand to look it over. By rounding corners, I left enough space to where if lower rod bearing ever goes, it shouldn’t hit case. Technically you don’t need to do anything. It does fit. After pulling the engine bearings out and heating cases and pressing in new bearings, I literally put engine together on my coffee table while watching Netflix. But, with anything, there is always tolerance controls in manufacturing, so I’d do the half case and rotate to inspect that nothing rubs. But, you won’t have to send cases in anywhere. It only looked dicey towards top of stroke on my cases (still fit), I just made minor adjustment.

    It sounds like your clutch is slipping in 6th gear but blasters tend to do that when you build them even with a hd clutch I had to play around with different springs until I finally got mine right

    • @chrissolem2615
      @chrissolem2615  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Could be… I used Vito’s clutch kit on build. I just figured 6th was just taller gear. My only real complaint on this little quad, Yamaha could of made first through third little taller and 4th through 6th a little shorter to better balance. That’s just just my opinion.

      Wasn’t sticking and it fully engaged, clutch adjustment wasn’t engaged partway…. I actually had some play in clutch adjustment and needed to tighten it. If anything I jetted it lean for summer temps and took out in cold to run stable…. So, it was running almost lean enough to have dead spots in throttle. A few spots in video I do ride the clutch some to shift faster, like I would on a 125 moto…. But, mostly too lean for that cold morning…. I ran a few tanks of gas through it, kids never rode it, so I sold it last spring. I did soak plates before install. I think I have actual build video somewhere on my page…. Used new everything on build, clutch basket was good, but used new push rods, ball, inner hub and slapped Vito clutch kit in. Was a fun toy after getting more tuned with clutch….. I do have a video after jetting I could post. I’m thinking overly lean performance is what you hearing, I’ll post that video quick

      FXR for front and rear bumper
      GPS on phone reads 60 mph
      The stock one I build ran 55…
      The difference I got, was a lot more torque and out of the whole speed. I still need to decide between Lectron or smart carb, now that I picked a size, but that it… Some suspension upgrades to send it as well…. We’ll see what I got after bike upgrades are done. Oh, and picking a place to send flywheel in for lightening service as well… 85% there, just handy capped by level of income.

    Top speed?

    • @chrissolem2615
      @chrissolem2615  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sprocket ratio 13/40, rear tires 20” by 11”… I get a hair over 60 on gravel. I weigh 285lbs. The difference after all the mods, is it actually has some get up and go (actual acceleration, compared to stock build). If you wanted to add teeth to the front, you’d get more top end if that’s your goal. If you wanted 70, you’d need a 15 tooth in front (a stock engine won’t wind that ratio out, I has a 14/40 on fresh stock build and it struggled to carry sixth gear). Hopefully my response dialed you in to what you wanted to know. You can always give up torque for speed, as long as engine can carry.

    • @chrissolem2615
      @chrissolem2615  ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried advanced and standard, considering I ran standard with 91, leaving Timing on standard it ran better. The main thing the quad needed after using Vito’s 72mm bore stroker kit, was a bigger carb, the stock carb bore of only 28mm proved it can’t throw enough air with fuel…. I used a 34mm Keihn style carb with mount on filter, also, stock exhaust held itself back from fully opening up (I went slightly cheaper with a Toomey B1, like 500 bucks).
