    📚The facts you should know about Lady Rochford📚
    1) Jane had been a member of the household of Henry's first wife, Catherine of Aragon.She is recorded as having accompanied the royal party on the state visit to France in 1520, "The Field of the Cloth of Gold" (s.2 ep.6 of The Spanish Princess illustrated it).
    2) She was probably considered attractive in her day, given that she was chosen to appear as one of the lead actresses/dancers in the prestigious "Château Vert" masquerade at Court in 1522. The seven performers were selected from the ladies of court in large part for their attractiveness. Two of the other performers included Jane's future sisters-in-law, Anne and Mary Boleyn.
    3) In 1524 Jane married George Boleyn, the brother of Anne Boleyn, the second wife of King Henry VIII (since 1533). Alison Weir concludes that the marriage was unhappy, principally because of George.
    4) George Boleyn was charged with having sexual relations with his sister at Westminster on 5th November 1535. However, records show she was with Henry on that day in Windsor Castle. Jane Boleyn, Lady Rochford, was one of the witnesses for the prosecution. She claimed that there was "undue familiarity" between brother and sister and her husband was "always in his sister's room". Jane claimed that it was possible they were lovers. George replied that "on the evidence of only one woman, you are willing to believe this great evil of me".
    5) Henry VIII married Anne of Cleves on 6th January 1540. Lady Rochford became one of her lady of the bedchamber. Henry complained bitterly about his wedding night.Jane B. asked Queen Anne about her relationship with her husband. And the Queen replied: "When the King comes to bed he kisses me and taketh me by the hand..." (At the same time,Catherine Howard was now under the control of Thomas Howard, 2nd Duke of Norfolk.Her own uncle "saw her merely as a tool with which to achieve his political ends." In the spring of 1540 she joined the household which had been set up for Queen Anne of Cleves.)
    6) This allowed the king to annul the marriage and marry his teenaged mistress, Catherine Howard,on 8th August 1540 at Hampton Court.Once again Lady Rochford became the Queen's lady of the bedchamber.
    7) Jane became very involved in Catherine's indiscretions. Catherine knew Thomas Culpeper, was in the area and she wrote him a letter: "Master Culpeper... It makes my heart to die to think what fortune I have that I cannot be always in your company... Come when my Lady Rochford is here..."
    8) Jane was interviewed in some depth.She claimed that at first Catherine rejected the advances of Culpeper.But he had been persistent, and eventually the Queen had admitted him into her chamber in private. Lady Rochford was asked to stand guard in case the King came. Jane added that she was convinced that Thomas had been sexually intimate "considering all things that she hath heard and seen between them". Catherine on the other hand reversed the image and described a woman, like Eve, who had persistently tempted her with seductive notions of dalliance; while Culpeper too took the line that LR had 'provoked' him into a clandestine relationship with the Queen...
    9)During her imprisonment in the Tower, LR was interrogated for many months but was not tortured. However, she seems to have suffered a full nervous breakdown and by the beginning of 1542 was pronounced insane. Her "fits of frenzy" meant that legally she could not stand trial for her role in facilitating the queen's adultery.Therefore the King implemented a law which allowed the execution of the insane for high treason.
    10) At seven o'clock on Monday, 13th February, 1542, Catherine was taken to Tower Green. Gage reported that she was so weak with crying that she could hardly stand or speak. Lady Rochford followed her to the block.Despite her nervous collapse over the previous five months, she was calm and dignified Eustace Chapuys reported that she was "in a frenzy" brought on by the sight of Catherine's "blood-soaked remains being wrapped in a black blanket by her sobbing ladies".
    11) She was beheaded with a single blow of the axe and was buried in the Tower of London alongside Catherine Howard, close to the bodies of Anne Boleyn and George Boleyn.

      Joy more history and learning. Wasn’t she Henry 8 first mistress before Anne?

      @YORKSCROWN  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@rexrivers2220 ,no,at all. Though he could be interested in her,there’s no mention between such relationships☺️ + her father wasn’t so egoistic and hypocritical person like Thomas Boleyn or Howard who always provided their women…

      Yeah,I don’t understand when someone shows aggressiveness,I don’t like Anne B or Henry VII,as examples,but nowhere I wrote that any historical figure deserved death,besides Henry VIII but in that case everyone agrees (maybe,some sort of pain for cruel actions,and I suppose it’s enough). I believed he should sent Anne away after her false “lovers”’s executions ,in monastery…
