It is stipulated in my will that this is the song they will play at my funeral. Thanks so much for sharing. This version, like the original, speeds up throughout, so it's much faster by the end.LOVE LOVE LOVE!
This song makes me cry. Every time I hear it I remember the Ancient Israelites. Due to sin they were ripped from Jerusalem many died by the sword, many were forced to live in a foreign land. Some never returned. The lesson to be learned is when humans sin, the spirit of the Lord withdraws and humans left to fend for themselves.
Boney M did such a great version of this song that it overshadows the original artists. This song will be sung for hundreds of years after the authors passing.
Boney M tried to steal the song by not crediting the original songwriters on the first issue of their single. They also sanitised some of the rastafarian lyrics so it would appeal to pop disco fans for the majority of whom the real, spiritual message was completely lost.
Gosh this is a classic, it brings back all the sweet memories of time cone, Jah bless you all for those Melodies your group gave to us. Big up Jah bless continue always. One Love.
Although I prefer the lyrics from the Bible, without the Rastafarian substitutions, I like this more than the Boney M version. It's wonderful to see and hear them singing it live.
the "fake shiat" remains the most sold and danced and listened to....and, hadn't it been for the Boney M version, this song would be completely unknown, so the Boney M can't have made such a disaster, or shiat, as you say elegantly. think before you judge (stupidly)
Total unbekannt? Ein Song, der im Jimmy-Cliff-Film "The harder they come" vorkommt. Think selber, before DU urteilst, Sir! - Geddit?
This song was sang by my dad Winston Dias the lead singer of the Movers and now new member of the Melodians.
G-D bless him and all brothers of Zion and may the world resist Zionaphobia
Yea! 💚🖤💛❤️🤎💙🧡

This song is directly about African slavery in the middle East and to the Eourope, USA and the Caribbean
Slavery has existed in this world since ancient times all over the world...it still exists today but it's less than before
@@muzamilugodwinyahaya1856 slavery always existed not just the one we all know made by white colonisers

Boney M is a German producer who did the male voice parts. Google it. Interesting. Sold 100m records.

Room for both, it's great music.. before Mass media, music would travel the world in circuitous routes, guess that's the way it can still be
What a beautiful song!
The words are from Psalm 137.
Only with the Melodians I could catcth the present meaning of the psalm 137
One of the best versions of this song.
Authenticity personified. The original and the best.
Interesting they sang this song in a place called such. I ❤️ this tune 💯📢💯⚖️👀.

It was illegal for people in Jamaica to play music in public for some time. I wonder if this song was a part of that.
Yes, this song was banned by the government in 1970

Que pena. Não sei se são os mesmos do The melodian, mas que show deprimente, ridículo.
