- In honor of the recent debut of NewsNation out of WGN's studios, here's an update to Chicago's Very Own.
This is actually an update to an update video, as this updates joefishs' update to TL's original compilation. This version here adds opens from 1980 and 1996, as well as the 2017 opens.

The name of the WGN News theme from 1979 is Botticelli's Theme from The Botticelli Orchestra. The name of their album is titled The Sounds of Today (1977).
9's best years were during Tribune's ownership
Well...it could have been a lot worse under Sinclair's ownership.

I still give props to creative. The skits on the Morning News is pretty funny because you know the CSD has some influence. And the "Behind the 9" series they are running in early 2022 of BTS of WGN News is also awesome because they are using the late 80s logo for the "9". There are still good people behind the scenes at the big ol 'GN. If Sinclair was running the ship, WGN News would be completely toast and be a total loss.

WGN has always been a news intensive station (I still remember my grandma's former cable system had the WGN superstation before it became its own thing).
In 1987-93 for morning and midday they were using graphics either from John Christopher Burns or Television by Design (who Burns worked for before forming his own design company).
At 6:45 and for a minute or so glimpses of Sonja Gantt. She was a change of pace broadcaster . She went from her hometown of Charlotte NC to a top ten market at WGN Chicago . Then back to her hometown to be a long time broadcaster . Now retired from broadcasting
I love the WGN 9 logo from 2002. Unfortunately it's not used anymore but this is Chicago's very own WGN News at 9.

Lots of great intros for wgn newscasts aired both channel 9 and WGN America.
Joe Donlen used to be at KGW in Portland Oregon.
It was the original Tribune station.

No compared to WWOR this still sucks. UPN > The WB/WGN. UPN/Warner Bros./WB flagship. And UPN was more popular than The WB.
I hate news showcasing their "personalities" with their phoney grins in the news intro. So off-putting, annoying and lame!
