WHP-TV "CBS 21 News" 11pm breaking news open + story on passing of Robb Hanrahan (7/4/22)
Breaking news open to the 11pm newscast from CBS affiliate WHP-TV in Harrisburg, owned by Sinclair.
Also included is a story announcing the passing of legendary local news anchor Robb Hanrahan.
Hanrahan joined CBS 21 in 2010. Prior to that, Robb has been with many stations, including cross-town (actually, across street) rival WHTM for three years from 1989 to 1992. Hanrahan started his career in the 1980s with a six year stint at ABC affiliate KODE-TV in Joplin, Missouri, and between Harrisburg positions had also worked in two major-market settings; Miami (at Fox affiliate WSVN in the mid 90s, and at CBS O&O WFOR-TV in the mid-to-late 2000s), and New York City (at ABC network flagship WABC-TV from 1996 to the mid-2000's.)
Robb spent the final 10 years of his career at WHP, serving as lead weeknight anchor, and host of Sunday morning public affairs show "Face the State". Robb said in the past that "Central Pennsylvania was the best place to live and work on the news." It was in Harrisburg where he got to work alongside his wife Stacey, who also formerly worked at WHP as assistant news director and a fill-in meteorologist.
It was in June of 2020 when Robb suffered what has been termed as a massive heart attack that nearly took his life. He fought through it though, and began on the road to recovery. Hanrahan officially retired from broadcasting in February of 2021 to focus on his recovery and spend more time with his family. Robb passed away at the age of 60 during the July 4th holiday weekend. My thoughts are with Robb's family as well as his former colleagues during this difficult time.

I believe WHO-TV, Channel 13, Des Moines, Iowa, was once owned by The New York Times Company. 👌 Funny they used the Eyewitness News theme music from Mickey Mouse (The Walt Disney Company is the parent company of ABC and ESPN) on an NBC affiliated television station. 🤔
